I have been playing movies from an external hard drive on my TV (using the HD Live TV device) for six months and it has just stopped playing video files. I can see all my folders and files but when I select something to watch the 'loading' wheel comes up and just keeps turning. It is doing this for all video files and I have watched most of them before. I have tried restoring the factory settings and pressing in the reset button on the side of the device. Does anyone have any ideas?

and... when I plugged my external hard drive into my computer it now doesn't recognise any of the video files (that it previously did.)

Sounds like a corrupt hard drive.
Plug it in the computer and from the command prompt run
chkdsk /f
then re-check in pc as well as the wdtv.

Thanks for the reply. I tried what you suggested and I can play all movies on my computer (from external hd) but when I run it through the WD unit and into my TV anything I select just gets stuck on the loading screen. All these movies worked fine the day before. Any other ideas?

Factory or custom firmware?

Factory, nothing I can think of
Custom, try and delete the .WD_TV folder on the HDD and see if that fixes anything.
