I've been beating my head trying to get this to work. I have the 1st gen WDTVLIVE with the latest firmware. I've done the below:

1. Open "Services" from the Start Menu / Control Panel, and stop the
"Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service".

2. Now navigate to "%Userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Media Player".

3. Delete all the "Windows Media Library (.wmdb)" types of file inside that folder.

4. Done! Now simply open WMP and it should start indexing your library again.

Now it fixed some of my problems, but I don't see all my movies. I have 700GB of backed-up movies on my "Windows Home Server 2011" system with 8TB of drive space. The latest codec, everything updated.

I have no idea what to try next.

I found the problem. There seems to be a permission problem when using the WDTVLIVE with my WHS2011 media server. I had to connect the WDTVLIVE to my WHS2011 using network shared folders and then everything worked. I found this and it helped: http://youtu.be/EQstgQ4eJCM
