I'm trying to build-up my own root.bin ........

Hope somebody could help me to sort out.

If anyone is interested, here the steps which allowed me to get a working root.bin from wdlxtv 5.6.2
Code: [Select]
#!/bin/sh

# Make root.bin from WDLXTV wdtv.bin

sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=root.bin bs=1024 count=64k
sudo mkfs.ext3 -F root.bin
sudo mkdir -p /mnt/1
sudo mkdir -p /mnt/2
sudo mount -o loop,offset=32 wdtv.bin /mnt/1
sudo mount -o loop root.bin /mnt/2
sudo cp -r -v /mnt/1/* /mnt/2
sudo mkdir /mnt/2/home
sudo mkdir /mnt/2/sys
sudo mkdir /mnt/2/boot
sudo mkdir /mnt/2/dev
sudo mkdir /mnt/2/opt
sudo mkdir /mnt/2/proc
sudo mkdir /mnt/2/etc/samba
sudo mkdir /mnt/2/mnt/fwup
sudo rmdir /mnt/2/lost+found
sudo chown root:root -R /mnt/2
sudo umount /mnt/1
sudo umount /mnt/2

Don't care about the warnings like:

"cp: will not create hard link 'mnt/1/dev' to the directory 'mnt/1/apps' "

seems not to be important (at least don't cause side effects on the final root.bin).

Not tested with previous wdlxtv versions.

bye

By the way : thanks to smartP for having provided the starting point :)

i have firmware 1.02.10 with .txt support instead od .srt but it is in wdtv.bin format, so i can flash my wdtv with it but i will be miss lan support from ext.boot

Hi, all

Greeting from China, Asia.

The 1.02.10c root.bin works well under ext3-boot-0.92, the only problem is that the IP is not shown in "About" screen any more.   :-\
