WD TV Live and External DAC Question

Hi Everybody, I have WD TV Live and thinking of getting an external DAC so my question is If I play any video which have Dolby Digital, DTS and DTS-HD Master Audio codec via WD TV Live so Will I be able to get the sound through my DAC on Speakers?

WD TV Live optical Out>DAC>Stereo AMP>Speakers

Plz give ur inputs on this.

I believe DAC alone is not enough to get all the channels from AC3 5.1 or DTS. You need decoder to do that, like the one in modern AV receiver.
