In mention of iMovie, we all know that it makes viewing and working with video as simple as organizing your photos. You may have could not help importing your MP4 file to iMovie. Importing MP4 into iMovie is not a strange thing for most Mac users, and we can easily import MP4 into iMovie for editing in most cases. However, iMovie doesn't allow you to select the MP4 file sometimes. So what is the matter on earth? And how can we successfully import MP4 to iMovie at any time?

In fact, this guide also applies to import avchd, avi, mts, mt2s, mpeg, youtube, wmv and more to imovie

Technically, iMovie can only support not corrupted .mp4 files that are encoded MPEG4/AAC or H.264/AAC data. Yes, iMovie prefers MPEG-4 and H.264 video codec instead of others, but MP4 is a video container that may contain various audio and video codec (and sometimes even subtitle streams included) that iMovie does not support. If either audio or video codec is not iMovie supported at the frame level, iMovie will not recognize or import them.

Well, don't worry, here is the solution for importing MP4 to iMovie program for you.

Though iMovie 10 announced to support MP4 files, sometimes we still encounter can't import MP4 into iMovie issue especially importing MP4 videos recorded from GoPro (HD), Sony (e.g. Sony Cyber-shot W730, Sony PMW-EX3), Hybrid camcorders and etc or importing Handbrake MP4 to iMovie. So does the iMovie 11/09/08/HD in supporting MP4 movie files.
