Can anyone please confirm if the new 1.02.08 software enables bit perfect playback via the optical out?

Also can the WDTV now play 24/96 Flac files without the need to downsample to 24/48.

If anyone knows please take the time out to answer, even if it's a simple yes or no.

yes, it does.

No need to downsample. I have made many recording at 24/96 and they all played well on the WDTV.

Video:
wdtv (hdmi output) -> Sony KV-30HS420
xbox 360 (flash mod, hdmi output) -> Sony KV-30HS420

Audio:
wdtv (toslink output) -> Sony STR-DA3000ES -> Harman Kardon HKTS-18
xbox 360 (toslink output) -> Sony STR-DA3000ES -> Harman Kardon HKTS-18

They play fine, but are outputted as 24/48. The WDTV downsamples them internally.

How can one tell if they are downsampled (without a trained ear I suppose) ?

WDTV LIVE with current official FW > HDMI > DVDO > Sony CRT Projector 150" 16/9 screen.  Toslink audio to Yamaha DTS receiver. No Network set up yet.

So does that mean the quality is still better than CD quality 16 bit / 44 hz?

Someone says the wdtv outputs "as 24/48."
Does the 24 bit still make the quality better than cd quality?

Also, I thought you could make the WDTV stream the signal straight to the amp via PCM without downsampling?

Sorry folks, if you play 96/24 bit flacs on the WD TV, the optical digital output delivers 48/16.

Yes it's sad, but the WD TV just drops the lower 8 bits of 24bit worldlength tracks.

So if you want to playback 96/24 high resolution audio tracks, the WD TV is not for you.

Sorry...

P.S. how do I know ? I created a 24 bit test-track that is reduced in sound level so that
only the lower 8 bits contain any data. If the digital output plays full 24 bits, you can hear
those bits by pushing the volume of your amp to the max.

But on my WD TV, I hear nothing...
