I have same speed 6-8mbytes/sec over 100/10 LAN (WDLH) copy 600mb from PC->WDLH
Read speed 600mb file from WDLH(stanby mode) --> PCover Samba/Windows Sharing ~5.5-6MBytes/sec

Again mostly payed net-radio services (Live365,Pandora...etc)
Again no choice define own shoutcast server.

No power off button constant power consumption 8W(GUI) movie playback (Xvid 9-10W max)
9W during copying over network.

Biggest benefit is remote control its new larger with some new keys.

Users with manually preprared thumbs on small TV size will unlucky thumbnail mode is showing
smaller thumbnails (Analog output CRT) not tested on large LCD

Playback stability and quality is same as WDTVlive

Wheather is fetched from Accuwheater many cities and countries

No spin-down for USB HDD
Front logo is lighting white and disturbing a lot-of no option turn of during playback.
PLayer has small cooler its relative silent but FANless WDTVlive is more silent like this new model.

Clock in main menu screen is not possible deactivate (probably in next fw will be possible do that)

I forgot Much better File operation DELETE/MOVE - rename is still missing

NETFLIX is only for US customers - EUrope customers dont have it

Youtube/MediaFly is only open alternative but youtube is starting blocking some content
on embedded players this is not problem only for WDTV family players.

(FLV supportis not perfect still some FLV files are not supported should be fixed soon)

If you want test something I can try

I am not able review own posts

WDLH has GOTO desired Time /Seek to time function this is usefull

WebRC feature - user need visual contact with TV becouse WEBfrontend is sending only navigation keys

Missing nice feature (Play It on WDTV from Explorer content menu) or que it.
this will be really use full if will be added in future.

Its not possible disable Infomation pop-up window when is movie playback starting (Subtitle :OFF CODEC info ) pretty anoying when is in que many short clips

Volume control - is supported MUTE function  this is good. (funny speaker icon)
player is starting from standby mode to GUI in max 6seconds

DVD menu is supported (select scene etc)

Does the WDTV Live Hub have the same thumbnail view as the previous models?

Also when viewing a network share in thumbnail mode does it have the same defect as the WDTV Live whereby jpg's are shown when browsing in video mode resulting in seeing the movie poster as both a jpg, and as the image for the video file, causing you to see 2 of everything?

(I can't believe that they haven't fixed this defect with the WDTV Live firmware yet)

WDTV Live HUB - WDLH has 5 browsing video modes

1: Listing (only text filenames check - 3min:07sec http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obkKVHb-KdE )
2: List + Preview (on right side is preview window this is like on previous model + cosmetic changes)

3:  Thumb1 mode ( thumbs are in single line and rotating effect)
4:  Thumb2 mode ( 4x4 thumbs matrix)
5:  Thumb3 mode ( 3x3 check it here 2min:20sec http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obkKVHb-KdE  thumbnail is smaller becouse bigger part of possition is white space)

WDLH is using folder.jpg or metadata for example from MP4 media files.
Again is not supported folder.jpg for ROOT directory ( so long requested and 3rd gen is again missing)

My personal oppinion is WDTV(old models) have much better thumbnail browsing mode
but I tested WDLH on small TV and larger TVs may provide bigger images.

Sounds like I don't need one...

The ethernet speeds are a joke. Not in general but to move up from 100mbit to 1gbit without any performance gains... this is just...

Testing Enviroment
WDLH <--> 8 ports 10/100HF Switch Zyxell <--> PC dedicated 1.5Ghz P4 Samba server
30meters/98.42feet CAT5 STP cable

TEST with 8kb copy buffer (reading speed test from WDLH over network to PC memory)
Code: [Select]
$ date +%s ; dd bs=8192 if=1gig.file of=/dev/null ; date +%s;
~5.7MB/s

Second test speed is only 4MB unknown reason probably CPU/utilization is still high
Code: [Select]
1287815710
123928+1 records in
123928+1 records out
1015224320 bytes (1.0 GB) copied, 253.546 s, 4.0 MB/s
1287815965

TEST with 16kb copy buffer (read test from WDLH to PC)
Code: [Select]
$ date +%s ; dd bs=16384 if=1gig.file of=/dev/null ; date +%s;
1287816018 start time
61964+1 records in
61964+1 records out
1015224320 bytes (1.0 GB) copied, 202.098 s, 5.0 MB/s
1287816221 finish time

Only for Comparison

TEST COPYing SAME FILE (1gig.file) FROM USB HDD to MY PC SERVER LOCAL COPY over USB bus
~20MB/s (2.5" WD Passport 250gb HDD)
I can say PC server is not bottleneck is capable write to HDD with 20mb/s keep on mind also 2.5" HDD
are not extra fast 3.5" HDD are faster

probably LAN infrastructure and FullDuplex mode can increase perfomance
but not extremly high. If someone will have better speed should share own technical spec.
Maybe 1gig NIC with CrossCable FD is able run faster I think SAMBA+CPU is limitating factor

NFS or FTP protocols are not supported only WindowsShare/Samba or DLNA server Twonky
