I'm thinking of getting this player but I'm not sure if it can properly display .ssa and .ass subtitle formats. From what I have read in this forum, it even has trouble with just .srt. So my question is, does it properly display .ssa and .ass subtitles?

As far as my movies are concerened, I never had trouble using SRT subtitles (both ANSI and UTF8) or SUB/IDX.
I used ASS subtitles sometimes, but my current firmware (WDTV Live v1.01.17) doesn't support them fully; that means subtitles are shown, but all font decoration (font name, color, outline,...) is ignored - just plain Arial rendering... I don't know if this has improved in the latest FW revision 1.02.21, though.

The problem is still present. ssa/ass are treated as if they are srt. Now that we have USB keyboard support, that is the only thing keeping the WD Live from being perfect. (If only there was a firmware mod with proper ssa/ass.)
