I have a HP NAS box that's running linux. It has samba share that I am able to access from my XP PC as well as my laptop.

I see this NAS in my WDTV Live, but when I select it, it says "no media found", where it should display me the share names. I am not prompted for a username or password. It just says no file found.

What username/password does the WD use to access the network share? I am thinking I need to add that user to my NAS.

I got another WDTV Live box. The original one had a bad HDMI connector. The new one worked fine!

I choose NOT to upgrade to the firmware when I connected it. I think it has 1.01.00. One interesting thing I observed is it now prompts me for the username/password when I connect to my NAS. I swear my old box did not ask me for a username/password.

Did the newer firmware skipped the username/password screen in some situations? I believe I have the 1.01.17 firmware on the returned box..
