i was unable to put the background image into the osd folder over ftp. It says that:

553 Rename/move failure: Read-only file system
Error:   Critical error

and so it would not overwrite the old background image.

Can you try this ?

# mount -o bind /path/to/foo/xml /osd/foo.xml ?

Well I did that command in telnet but not sure what it is meant to do to be honest as I am a newbie:p

Save the first file to /tmp/basic_browse_thumb_video.xml, and then run this :

# mount -o bind /tmp/basic_browse_thumb_video.xml /osd/basic_browse_thumb_video.xm

And then do that with the other file (inc_video_thumb_browse.xml).

use putty.exe or telnet.exe or any other telnet client depends on your OS

telnet/putty <wdtv_ip>
example for windows

Start -> Run ->  cmd.exe
telnet 192.168.x.y 23 [enter]

if you want exit telnet session use [control_key]+"]"  and type "c" or "close"
and you are back in cmd prompt

if you are looged to WDTV box
you will be promted for login/pass
user:root
password: <enter>
then you should have linux shell

cp - is copy command
ls - like "dir" under windows listing directory
cd - change directory  "cd /osd"  or "cd /tmp" ; ls -la "
mv - for renaming files  "mv background background.old"  file background will be renamed to background.old
this command is also moving files  mv /tmp/USB1/mypicture.jpg /osd/  - my picture will be moved to new location /osd

I dont show delete command under root is very dangerous if you arent very familiar with unix shell enviroment
but rename

Kitane, where I can find information about modding the osd's xml files??? I googled around all the internet but I didn't find nothing... Is there an emulator or an application that is able to read the xml files and draw on the video the screen??? It would be very simple to modify the files... I tryed by myself but it was a difficult and very long operation... Every time I tryed an update of the files I have to upload it on the WDTV and see what happens on the tv... very boring...

good idea fred but when I try doing this with the new background image it still wont replace it with the one in the /osd/image folder. The old one is still in there afterwards. I guess this is because its written to the flash and cant be altered? I think B-rad's fw is written to flash memory so this cant be changed???
