Q. What are the nameing limitations for a mkv file.

I think any limitations would be Linux limitations? 

You can name an MKV anything you want as long it ends in .MKV it should play on the WDTV.

I  just used MakeMKV to rip over 150 DVDs to this format, they have capital letters,spaces,numbers...  Not an issue at all during playback.

Issues can arise when container files or playlist files have differences in capitalization or interchange underscore vs space referencing the source file.

ie .vob and .VOB will pay fine, but a .VOB referenced as a .vob in a playlist may not.

I have around 300 movies, most of them have Croatian "special" characters čćšđž and they work absolutely fine.
