I am led to believe that MKVmerge will attach any file to a MKV.  I have never tried it, and I do not know if the WDTV will recognize an image embedded this way, but it is probably worth looking into.

As far as I know embedded jpg/MKV doesn't work on the WDTV, very few if any devices support the full range of Matroska features. The attachment function is the one for embedding art and the player would need to support viewing the images.

The regular method of placing a jpg in the folder with the same name does work.

So Ghostbusters.mkv = Ghostbusters.jpg and the thumbnail will show.

For way too much information:
http://linux.die.net/man/1/mkvmerge

:-)

Short version: mkvmerge -o NewMKVWithImage.mkv --attachment-description "Movie Image" --attachment-mime-type image/jpeg --attach-file "jpg_image_name.jpg" existingmkv.mkv

I have been adding jpgs to my MKV files with the same name as the movie file, just in case the WDTV starts supporting it. But I also keep the jpg in the same folder with the movie.

sure, mkvmerge gui is much better for just one file...
for more than that, you can copy CLI command from mkvmerge, paste command in Notepad, ultraedit , etc and perform Find&Replace to "create" CLI commands for other files.

With Ultraedit is really quick using Regex,,,

I am not able still add to MKV artwork (embedded into file)
but I have good solution how to make mp4 ( 1video track 2(eng+native audio tracks) + subtitle )  iTune compatible Artwork I am using now 240x360 its same aspect ratio like 180x120px but prepared for future I think in future we can have bigger Thumnails

and small 120x180px upscaled to new dimmension looks not good.

As far as I know embedded jpg/MKV doesn't work on the WDTV,

Docs say it only works for mp4 and mp3
If you think there is something wrong with your WD device contact them and then act upon that: Either wait or move on - don't whine here - this is not WD's board. If you have a problem, start a thread and ask - perhaps someone knows the answer.

Do you have a link to some mkv file with artwork which demonstrates the possiblity?

Also, did 3dxr claim the new firmware does show this?
