OK, so I've finally found the time to whip up an ext3-boot-live for all the eager developers out there  ;D I've gone the extra step too and unified both releases to interoperate with each other :D This means you don't have to put your WDTV Live into upgrade mode to use ext3-boot-live ... the catch is root.bin MUST be located on the device your WDTV Live detects as /dev/sda1. I do it this way to not add too much additional time to the boot process.

First you'll install WDLXTV-LIVE-0.2.0 or later

Next if you're using multiple devices find which one is /dev/sda1

download root.bin to the root of that device and reboot your WDTV Live

If you're successfull then:
Code: [Select]
grep "user.notice init" /tmp/messages.txt
Jan  1 00:00:16 WL-01 user.notice init: ext3-boot-live loaded

 ;D

ext3-boot-live-0.3.3

ext3-boot-live-0.3.4.2
ext3-boot-live-0.3.4.3
ext3-boot-live-0.3.4.4
ext3-boot-live-0.3.4.5
ext3-boot-live-0.4.0.0
ext3-boot-live-0.4.1.0

Refer to WDLXTV-LIVE thread for Changelog, this is WDLXTV-LIVE development version so changes are identical.

http://rapidshare.com/files/309478214/1.01.11_B-RAD.CC_EXT3-BOOT-LIVE-0.2.1.zip

Remember any useful modifications / enhancements / binaries you get working with ext3-boot-live be sure to submit to me and I'll get them worked into WDLXTV-LIVE  ;D

if grep does nothing then you're running wdlxtv-live.

In order to boot ext3-boot-live root.bin must be on the device your Villa detects as /dev/sda1

An explanation of this for a normal user? :D

normal user shouldn't care whatsoever about this ;) ext3-boot is a development version of wdlxtv-live. They are mirrors of each other except one has writeable root and the other is read only flashing firmware.

Its for tinkering with the guts & doing whatever else you want ... and fixing bugs and sending patches back to me for wdlxtv-live :D

okay so I'm trying to run this so that I can modify the inc_list_browse.xml file to up the file list display font size even bigger....

Threw the files onto a fat32 USB key and neither of the ports load up the Ext3 version.

The WDTV Live is currently running the latest WDLXTV Live that I flashed last night, do I need to revert from that to something else?

I'm really not planning to go nuts on the tweaks and mods, I just need the EXT3 version so I can change pretty much just that one file.

I understand this stuff isn't for newbies, but the problem I'm running into has to be something simple.
