Im waiting for WD to implement WDTV audio gapless playback. I wont buy the device until this is implemented. I will use it almost exclusively for music playback, so I think I need it.

Also, while we are at it, a crossfade feature would be the cherry.
I use my WDTV at house parties connected to surround sound.
Would be nice to load up the 8GB flash drive with my music and let the WDTV be my personal unattended DJ.

This would let me put away the laptop during parties which is not good to have around drinks anyway.  ;)

I agree on the crossfade request.  The lack of gapless is an obvious frustration in the year 2009, but crossfade set to 1 second can alleviate it, or you can have an auto DJ if you set it longer, as the previous poster mentioned.  I also have a PS3 and with the crossafade set to a second you do not notice lack of gapless (which makes me worry:  If the PS3 cannot do gapless with it's considerable processing power, I highly doubt the WDTV will be able to).

If you are going to play the audio files off a pen drive, why can't you use authoring software to combine your songs into a single file with no gaps between the songs or create fades or whatever audio effect you would like? I admit that this is an inconvenience, but it would be a good temporary solution.

Just bought a wdtv yesterday primarily for the audio playback and was disappointed when I found gaps added to my .flac files. Will the gapless feature be added soon? If not this is a deal breaker and the box goes back to the store!

It was indicated (some time ago) that they would implement gapless playback but no timetable was ever given for getting it done. It doesn't look like they will be adding it but you never know....
Video:
wdtv (hdmi output) -> Sony KV-30HS420
xbox 360 (flash mod, hdmi output) -> Sony KV-30HS420

Audio:
wdtv (toslink output) -> Sony STR-DA3000ES -> Harman Kardon HKTS-18

been a while since i checked in -
my ver 1 WDTV is still collecting dust because it's useless to me w/o gapless playback.
i'm told and have researched that this feature will never be implemented on that device. lame.

buy.com is blowing out some refurbed WDTV live for $59
http://www.buy.com/prod/western-digital-wdtv-live-hd-media-player/q/loc/111/listingid/94567800/211557987.html

does anyone know if this device able to play gapless?
if so with or without the WDTV firmware. i'll fine using a homebrew if there a version out there that plays gapless.

Does B-Rad do it yet?
