It's just a poll for now, nothing is planned in the immediate !

In my opinion :

- "simple" is better adapted for this new box and more "universal"
- "minimalistic" is faster to develop but maybe not suitable with this new box

Hey Lili, I think your work is polished up enough for inclusion into WDLXTV-LIVE. :) I think it would be a good option to have a couple OSD themes to choose from right in the firmware, so whenever you do get around to it I'll include it if thats ok with you. Heres the osd files for you and anyone else wanting to get theming: http://rapidshare.com/files/296396874/villa-osd-0.1.zip --- missing files

Simple is the best. I have one comment on that. In the Icon mode, when I select a file, the 'OK' button is very small and it is difficult to distinguish which file is selected. WIll you please do some modification. Thanks.

Not the right topic for your request !

I know some users have problems with this selected frame, depending on the TV... i will try to find a better solution next time.

I really, REALLY think one based on the functionality and ease of use of the XBMC would be ideal.  Nothing else has come anywhere close so far.

Shouldn't we wait for WDTVExt to be completed before writing a UI for WDTV LIVE ?

WDTVExt != UI

WDTVExt = a way to dynamically modify menus/pages

UI = OSD theme

WDTVExt serves pages from a theme, any properly coded theme will work with WDTVExt.

Ok, allow me to present some info on WDTVExt subject.

WDTVExt adds to WDTV the ability to host plugins

A WDTVExt plugin is composed of an plugin manifest file - xml file describing the plugin, menu entries he adds, removes or changes, pages he adds or changes.

There is an optional script file that contains different functions called at different moments:
Plugin Loaded Function
Plugin Timer Function
Menu Selected Function
Menu Triggered Function
Page Loaded Function
Page Key Pressed Function
Page Hidden Function
Page Reshown Function
Page Closed Function
..
...
..

Also handled here are events for different controls in the page like lists, buttons, etc.

a WDTVExt plugin has access and can manipulate wdtv homepage menus:
- can add a new menu entry at any level, optional being notified when that menu is selected and triggered
- can remove a menu entry, at any level
- can hook an existing menu entry, optional being notified when that menu is selected and triggered

A WDTVExt plugin has access and can manipulate xml markup of any new or existing page.
- can inject additional xml markup at any position in the existing xml markup
- can partially remove xml markup from existing xml markup
- can complitly replace existing xml markup with new one.

Depending of where the user is navigating with the remote, an plugin can have access to different context informations, for ex
when it browses though a list of movies, the selected item is an context information, along with full path, size, etc.

Using above described abillities, an plugin can changes the way standard UI behaves and create completly new UI.

Wanna help WDTVExt for WDTVLive and RemoteView?

I can't wait to see it in action pibos !

Does the old version (for WDTV1) had all these functions ? I've never seen anything like, just the screenshots you posted...

Is there a (good) chance that you will make your app compatible with my mod, I mean using a modified original fw with custom UI instead of an alt fw (b-rad,...) ? please...  :P

It's now several hours that I'm trying to find something good for the main screen, but as the icons are arranged differently, I can't get something I like  :-[

I feel that this new media player will give me sleepless nights...
