I looked for a feature request thread, but didn't see one.  Doesn't mean it doesn't exist, sometimes I'm not overly observant.

I've read the instructions, and didn't see my requests and don't know for sure if they already exist or not (see first line)

Right now, I'm only using the audio player portion.  Don't yet have a HDTV (soon I hope) and I'll load images at some point.

1.  I'd like to be able to select a folder and play anything within that folder, including sub-folders.
2.  Instead of the WD logo on screen-savers, I'd like to see the album art.

If these exists, can someone explain to me like I'm a cat (who can drive) on how to use them?

Has anyone else experienced interference noise with an external HD enclosure?  I've got a low end Bytec enclosure with a 500 GB SATA and it creates

Thanks.

indeed i had that very issue with a vantec usb-to-ide/sata cable.
the power brick is the cause.
so what i did was
i took an old small PSU from a pc
jumped it so it would turn on with its power switch on the back
and used it to drive my 3.5' ide and sata drives.
the fact that i had jumped the PSU to use it as a power brick left me somewhat concerned
and so i always turned it on and off for every movie.
I was very happy when i got it networked with a sabrent usb network dongle.
since the wdtv was being fed its files off of an NFS i no longer have a drive other than the 1gb stick thats attached to it.

PLEEEEZ  :)

GMC up to 1 or 2 warp points are working fine for me  (.avi xvid or divx wp1 = standard profile )
if sigma chipset is not supporting any requested feature WD will be not cappable add to new release
this is same for all requests ( WMApro MS-Mpegv2 v3 or WM1 or WM2 aka (wmv7|wmw8)

WDTV is dependent on HW decoder HARD WIRED in smp8635 chip
and many others HW players have problems with GMC more then 1warp points

Check your movies and re-encode it This will be for you less pain way you will not have GMC 3wp in WDTV based on SMP8635lf chip

Anyway your new movies(noGMC or GMC 1wp max better without GMC) will be compatible with other players and you will save work for your friends

Global trends are x264 movies or Xvid without GMC3wp you need only your movies renecode or find better sopurce without GMC feature wmv-a audio is supported only WMA Audio profesional isnt supported by sigma chip - noway to add its same like with GMc3wp

Today I found nice article where was price for one device
simple licence witout DTS 20$
advan licence with DTS    50$

50$ - 20$ = 30$ + WDTV(99$) = 130$ total
I hope now is clear for all who want DTS its only about money

WDTV is capable decode DTS signals.

  • Like the switch audio in the option screen I woulod like to see change video aspect ratio.
  • A volume control on the WD remote? Up/down buttons  durring movie playback
  • To be able to move files from one USB to another whilst in the WD. =  File manager copy/rename/delete(FAT/EXT2/3fs)move

Not surte if 2&3 are possible but I would like to think 1 is?

Baz

Copy move functions should be implemented over special basket/que
for example moving directories could take few minutes and user dont need wait to operation will finish
only at start decide which files should ne moved/copies from/to

  • Saving of file progress data (aka resume information) of movies and some kind of thumbs.db for cover art on the device they're located. I cut off WDTV's power when it is not in use - thus all resume information and cover art database is flushed.
  • DVD menu suport for ISO files.

resume information are stored more efecient in SQLiteDB if you will have more movies in one directory parsing cost too many CPU time
thumb.db is only soluttion for Win32 users MAC and linux users storing same data in diferent dbfiles and for people who have one movie in one folder ( but this will be probably implemented in next release becouse we have major endusers from win32 platform)
better is add generic support for thumbs and release easy tools which provide with few clicks

Added : cover.jpg back.jpg will be processed if is in folder no folder.jpg  and folder.jpg will be generated for example
cover.jpg and back.jpg is used world wide also pop-up window with bigget artwork will be activated if cursor stay longer on foldericon

My wish list:

1) If anyone has seen how the popcorn a-110 has info from imdb.com when u click on the movie and it shows u a synopsis of the movie and u can choose to play or go back.
2) Ability to change Audio Settings (Digital/Stereo) from options Menu (without having to leave movie and browse.)

That would make this great little product one of the best purchases.

I've just had mine a few days but the most glaring thing is the inability to search i.e. you can't jump to a point say 15 minutes into a
film. I don't see any technical reason why it can't be implemented and it is useful.
