No. I meant the folder image. Make the size of current folder image a little bigger than others.

Is it possible to 'mix' views?

I mean... display movies in mini-thumb view and music in list view. In my opinion music thumbs are too big...

You can choose list mode or thumbnail mode for each media (video/photo/music) in settings menu.

Hi everybody, first post, first question...

Which version are you using ?

Quality in 180x240 px (2x5 or 2x6 thumbnails) is quite good but it degrades in 360x480 px (1x3 thumbnails).

Guys, can you tell me what this thumb size code means? Such as 2x6, or 2x5, or 1x3?

Because,

180x240 seem to be 3x4 (180/3=60, and 240/4=60)
360x480 seem to be 3x4 (360/3=120, and 480/4=120)

So, I think you guys are using different system to call these ratios. Can anyone let me know?

Thank you.

I am a total newbie at this and was looking for mods, found lilibabe's simple osd mod and am totally blasted away!
This is so cool, you should be doing this for WD for money. Look amazingly clear and makes more sense. Also, in general,
I think lilibabe has a great artistic taste.

What he did that is very useful, that he enlarged thumb display area, so now one doesn't have to use binoculars to read movie titles. This single change makes more sense than whole WD original fw! Because, there is no point in using thumbview, if you can't read the titles on thumbs, and have to read the title line below. With his modification, thumb view is finally usable.

I am loving the way it looks!

Have no idea on how to approach this though. Just checking for now. Got this thumb size thing I need to understand first.
Because my original fw 1.3.1, has thumbs at 120x180 (2x3). If I were to install it, then I would have to find and process every thumb for my 300 or so movies, as judging from screenshots on the first page of this thread, lilibabe changed the thumb ratio to 3x4.

Anyway, thanks guys.

For example, 2x6 means 2 lines of 6 thumbnails.

The ratio is 3x4, which is more suitable for French movie posters than the original 2x3 from WD. But depending on your country, maybe 2x3 is better adapted...

Ah..! Of course! Thank you!

No, the 3x4 thumbs are better adapted to posters in US as well.

The bigger problem is the choice of 3x4 or 2x3, because it will affect a lot in a future.

What if have to use the original firmware later again? My 3x4 adapted thumbs won't fit.
What if WDTV will be superceded by better brand and model? Is it likely that the new player will use 3x4 or 2x3?

As one collection grows, to move from one ratio to another becomes bigger problem. The posters are not well adapted even to 3x4. The title is often jammed in the middle of a picture, so I am often either stretching it or cropping the poster to make the title bigger. I often remove small text and logos. I sharpen the image, as it is displayed at lower res, and the TV scaler isn't that good at all at static imaging.

Changing everything from one ratio to another is a lot of work. All the cropping and cutting needs to be done again, on each thumbnail individually.

Question: lilibabe, what is involved in taking your v2 mod, and changing the thumbnail ratio from 3x4 to 2x3? Will v2 with 2-5 display area, even fit 2x3 thumbs, or will it have to be redefined as 2-6 to accommodate? Is this something I could do myself? If it is changing numbers in xml, I probably could. I am not good at linux, (but, I have a friend who is).

Yes, I know that changing from 2x3 to 3x4 is a long work... All I can say is that all my mods are 3x4, so if you decide to use "simple" then, after you decide to move to "minimalistic" or "picto", it'll be still 3x4.

Most of my thumbnails fits 3x4, so I have not much problems.

If you want to use 2x3 thumbnails with my mod, you'll have to change some xml and (optionnaly) gfx files. You can keep 2-5 or change to 2-6. There's not just one number to change in xml files, but all the layout.

Maybe I can do it for you but before, I strongly advise you to try ratio 3x4 with some thumbnails : you will see it's better, bigger, ...

You're right that 3x4 ratio pictures provide a better view. No wonder your layout looks so good! Besides cleverly using bigger area (something that WD designers didn't see), and thinning the unsightly thumb frames, you also make it count by using 3x4 thumb ratio! This is where a simple color mod is different from a functional upgrade. Yours is not just a mod It add functionality by making a previously existing but useless function useful!

It is not the look I worry about.
I am concerned with remaking all the thumbs from 2x3 to 3x4, and then, say if my WDTV dies and I need to buy WDTV Live, or may-be even a completely different player, remaking all of them again, now from 3x4 to 2x3.

Like I said above, I often make custom pictures, because the posters and dvd-covers are not laid out to displayed so small.

I don't know if stock continuity is something that other WDTV users have in mind or not.

I understand that it is probably going to be very hard for me to change your mod to fit 2x3 pictures. Thank you for clarifying.
I cannot ask you to do this modification for me. You can't do that. It is not good to stop the development of other things to satisfy people one-by-one. However, I'll be checking your work from time to time. If you decide to make a 2x3 version of Simple for your own reasons, I will be happy, jumping and downloading :)

Thank you, lilibabe!!!

I'm not working on the WDTV or anything else for now ! I can make my mod to be 2x3 compliant when I will have a little time...

But since you're busy worrying about the portability of your thumbnails, what makes you think that other players adopt this ratio ? Maybe it's 2x3, 2x4 or something else... who knows !

So, stay stuned, I will try to see what a 2x3 will give...

Just some clarification : English version ? Big thumbnails (about 4 thumbnails per page) or small (about 12 thumbnails per page) ?

Sorry to add yet another question to thing long thread but is there any way of reducing the menu options for each?

Im wanting to get one for my olds and it would be heaps easier if they only had the folder view option for the videos rather than having to scroll to it every time, or maybe can the folder view option be made first to come up rather than all videos option? that would work to.

Just wanted to say thanks lilibabe for some awesome looking osds they make it look great.

In the past, I already tried to make folder view the default item, but it did'nt work (it was the first item displayed but nothing happened when you selected "ok").

If you want, you can disable the library in settings. This way, there will be only the icon "usb" displayed for each media.

Hi Lilibabe,

when would your new OSD mod for the WDTVLIVE be ready?
