Thanks lilibabe, looks very nice. I noticed that all folders have a roundish transparency to them that goes over pictures. Is there any way to change this so that the covers are not effected?

If you know how to modify a .bin file, you can delete this reflection. Try replacing the png file 'video_thumb_frame_blister.png' by a blank one ('photo_thumb_frame_blister.png' for audio/music thumbnails).
unfortunately i lack the knowledge to do so. Is there maybe a guide somewhere that I could use to accomplish this task?

Just to know, which version do you use (wdtv.bin or lilibabe.osd.bin) ? linux os installed on your machine (even virtually) ?

I'm using the wdtv.bin  and I have virtualbox with linux ubuntu 9.04 installed.

Ok, so here is step by step guide :

1. Mount the file wdtv.bin : sudo mount -t cramfs wdtv.bin destination_dir/ -o loop,offset=32
2. Locate the file named ''video_thumb_frame_blister.png' in 'destination_dir/osd/image/'
3. With your favorite paint program, create a 170x224 px (if you're using "normal" size thumbnails) image with transparent bg then save it in png format (same name as other file)
3. Replace the original file with yours
4. Recreate the file wdtv.bin :
- mkcramfs destination_dir/ wdtv.cramfs
- md5sum wdtv.cramfs | dd bs=32 count=1 > wdtv.md5
- cat wdtv.md5 wdtv.cramfs > wdtv.bin
5. That's all ! (you can also do the same with 'photo_thumb_frame_blister.png' for audio/music thumbnails)

As i told you earlier, modifications were made but seems not to be taken into account by the wdtv (wd's bug)... Same thing with French translation and i suppose with other languages...

Unfortunately, I think I'll be forced to abandon the creation of this second project (http://wdtvforum.com/main/index.php?topic=1414.msg14764#msg14764) because it seems that the WDTV has difficulty in managing large gfx (scrolling of the menu items takes about 10 seconds !!).

it's a shame, it started well and I was again motivated...

As for other apps, lilibabe.osd.bin must be placed in apps/ subdirectory on your usb stick

I don't use WDLXTV but i think app.bin must be placed on the root of your usb key and named something.app.bin ; but it seems there's some problem with new WDLXTV version (http://wdtvforum.com/main/index.php?topic=1742.0)

How to quickly and easily modify the osd theme ?

Blue isn't your favorite color ? Here is how you can change my osd mod according to your taste.

I suppose that you already know how to mount wdtv.bin (or lilibabe.osd.bin) and recreate it once modified. I suppose that you have Photoshop.

Once mounted, copy the entire directory 'image' (osd/image) to another place available on windows.

Open Photoshop, open a new document and fill it with a color. Go to the scripts toolbox and press 'record'. Go to 'image>settings>color/saturation' and adjust the gauges according to your taste then 'ok'. Press 'stop' in the scripts toolbox.

Now go to 'file>automation>batch mode', choose the just created script and apply it to your 'image' folder (also select 'record errors in a file' at the bottom of the dialog window). That's all !

If you don't want all gfx to be processed, take care to place them elsewhere before treatment and return them after). No you can recreate the file wdtv.bin.

You can also change the default blue text color : under linux, go to the osd directory and type this :

Code: [Select]
sed -i 's/0096fa/123456/g' *.*
where 0096fa is the actual blue text and 123456 the new color for text
