First of all, I just want to say I love your OSD.  It's exactly what I was looking for.

However, I did find one small mistake.

For the English version, the welcome screen still says "Chargement".  I think it's supposed to say "Loading".

Ok, i will correct that.

Thanks for the real nice OSD mod: a vast improvement in legibility and design.

One query, though: I can't get a screensaver to work. There seems to be none by default and copying a suitable <screen_saver.png> into the root of the USB drive doesn't work either.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Noel

In fact, in the original fw, there's no 'screensaver.jpg' and the file 'screensaver.xml' is empty. I think the wdtv uses the file 'welcome_logo.png'.

But french users reported me this problem, it must be linked to fw b-rad.

If you really want the screensaver (is it useful ?), put a file 'screensaver.png' within the folder 'osd/image' of the osd.bin file.

Big_thumbnails (Spanish/English) : navigation problem corrected ; links updated (see 1st post).

Translation problem (Loading/Chargement) : will update the different versions when there will be other changes.

Nobody can help me with the script I asked ? it will help me to simplify these updates...

Quote
Does anyone can create a script that performs the following tasks (assuming that I produce a basic wdtv.bin and other sources : languages files, etc.) :

- mounting the wdtv.bin file
- ask the user the language he wants to use (then the script replaced the corresponding files)
- ask the user the size of thumbnails he wants to use (then the script replaced the corresponding files)
- ask the user which version he wants to use (wdtv.bin or osd.bin)
- updating the md5sum.txt file (in case he chooses 'wdtv.bin' to the above question)
- creating wdtv.bin or osd.bin

I think it should be easy for someone who is familiar with linux...

Thank you for your great app lilibabe. I am using the Turkish version of your app and I want to report some mistakes / errors about it.

1- I am using the app.bin version of your app with WDLXTV 0.5.5 and there are no screensaver and background pictures on the screen. I see there are files in /osd/image directory but the WDTV doesn't use them. If I put the files in the boot drive then everything is normal.

2- I wonder why did you put your background picture as png file and keep the original background picture as jpg file.

3- In Turkish firmware it also says Chargement... in the welcome screen. It must be "Yükleniyor...".

4- I wanted to edit the welcome.xml file in your app.bin but I get Read-only file system error. How can I edit the files in the app.

5- These are the home screen of the Turkish app.bin

As you can see there are errors with the active menu item. The are not correctly positioned.
Also in the screenshots in your first post the left side of the home screen is darker but not in my home screen.

6- It is "Müzik" not "Müsik". There is a spelling error in the active menu item png for the Music files.

These are the mistakes errors I found with the Turkish version of your app. I hope you will help me to correct these issues.

Thanks for your great app.

1. I think b-rad's fw allows external use of wallpaper and screensaver, that's probably why it doesn't use those supplied with the osd.bin

2. I choose the png format for these reasons : image occupying less space and looking better

3. Will be corrected in the next update

4. I think it's because of the file format of the osd.bin (cramfs, not read-write)

5. I thought I had solved the problem of positioning. I will see it... Have you installed the latest version ?
"Also in the screenshots in your first post the left side of the home screen is darker but not in my home screen" : I don't know what you mean ! Maybe it's because of the different background used (horizontal menu is a little bit transparent)... My osd mod is designed to be used as is, if you change graphics, i don't know what will be the result...

6. Translation error : will change it in the next update ; other translations are ok ?

I never said that there was a 2nd version ! It's just adjustments in different languages (translations) and big thumbnails as requested (1x3 instead of 2x6) for spanish and english versions.

For my part, I use virtualbox (ubuntu as guest with xp as host).

think you can do something in xp but it is more complicated ! (cygwin -> http://wiki.wdtv.org/doku.php?id=setting_up_the_environment_for_compiling&s[]=cygwin)

1- So we have to use external images for the screensaver and background. This is the only way with WDLXTV. Right?

2- I asked it because I did not know that wdtv can use png files as background. And I thought that a wrong named file in the Turkish app.bin (welcome_background_bg.png instead of welcome_background_bg.jpg).

3- Thanks.

5- Yes I am using the latest version.

I was talking about this difference.

Is this difference caused by background image or there must be some transparent dark image that is missing in the Turkish app file.

6- As far as I check other translations are ok.

Thank you.

@phatoshwest :

1. I don't use WDLXTV so I can't answer precisely but I think I read that somewhere. But, if b-rad's fw is looking for a file named "welcome....JPG" it wouldn't find it because mine is "welcome....PNG". The "welcome....JPG" file in the osd.bin is just a black background I left in case the wdtv looking for that file and crash if it doesn't exist.

2. see 1.

5. Darker left side of the home screen = home_left.png if I remember well... So, if this file exists in your osd.bin, it must be displayed. Maybe it's a problem with your background that goes over... I will try with turkish wdtv.bin to see if it's ok.

I just checked turkish osd.bin : all is ok. Maybe try to re-download it, plug and unplug the wdtv.

1- Ok I will do it with external image files. No problem.
By the way I checked the home.xml in /osd folder and in your app. They are different. Something prevents home.xml to change or it reverts back in my WDTV. I think this causes the misposition and transparency errors.
5- I checked my /osd/image file and yes there is home_left.png. But it doesn't show on the menu. I have not modified any file because it is read-only.

-------------------
I will observe and find out whick other app is restoring the home.xml. I copied the home.xml file in your app to wdlxtv. I will see if it helps.

What do you mean by "they are different" ? What's the difference ?

Home_left.png is surely displayed but below your background... don't know why, I think it's proper to b-rad's fw.

Someone who's using my osd mod and brad's fw could tell us if it's the same ?

Does b-rad's fw may use a PNG instead of a JPG for the background ? In WDLXTV, which file is responsible for seeking the background and the screensaver files ?

The home.xml files are different. Some other app must have preventing your app to change the home.xml. Or maybe after your app changes the home.xml file the other app revert home.xml back to original.

This is because the welcome..._bg.png and the home_left.png files are not displayed. Because they are not in the home.xml.

I copied the home.xml file of your app to wdlxtv firmware and rebooted but no difference. Now I will copy the home.xml file to LaurentG's app to see if it helps.
