Title pretty much says it all, I am purchasing a 32" inch Samsung TV and the LED TV 720p is around the same price as the LCD TV 1080p. In terms of non-picture related features, the 1080p has slightly more. Supposedly the LED TVs have better contrast and 1080p is pointless at a small screen size of 32", but I would like the opinion of someone who has seen both.

a 32" at 1080p is not pointless IMO. It is that much better. However, don't let the term "LED" fool you. It is merely a lighting source. It provides the light behind the LCD screen. So an LED TV is actually an LCD with LED's as it's lighting source. The advantage? Less heat, power consumption, and longer life. That is it.. Get the full sized 1080p, nuff said

I would get a HD regular if the price is better.

I have 42 and still can't see diference between 720p source and 1080p source.

You may start to see over 55''. But since you will get 32'', don't spend your money in something it won't make any diff.

I understand the backlight stuff, but you also get a better constrast. Comparable to Plasma TV sets.

I used to have a regular LCD and this backlight LED is way better, even better then my brother in law Plasma with 2mil:1 contrast.

And now you should be asking, why he bought a 42 Full HD LED and saying to me to buy a 32 HD. Because the piece I got was with 30%+ sale. If not, I would get a HD Ready only.
My set:

Actually it depends directly on how close you are going to sit to the screen.  If you are 10 feet away then you will never see the difference on a 42" between resolutions.  The LED will give you better contrast.

If you are in fact 10 feet away from your screen then you should consider a 42" Plasma 720p. Much better IMHO.
WDTV LIVE with current official FW > HDMI > DVDO > Sony CRT Projector 150" 16/9 screen.  Toslink audio to Yamaha DTS receiver. No Network set up yet.

I would say go to a TV store like hh gregg and see if you can tell the difference between 720p and 1080p but most of them don't air 1080p video. Try to find one that does and stand back and see if you can tell. I have a 42" and I ended up going with a 720p plasma because I couldn't tell the difference. I ended up with the plasma because of the better contrast over the LCD tvs. I haven't really taken a close look at the newer LED ones to see if they are comparable to plasmas.

LCD tv has been replaced by LED.. Better picture quality and reduced price.. Got one LED Tv 55" recently
