I have a WDTV Live running to an Epson 710HD projector via HDMI.
I dont need a big theater experience but just want to connect cheap speakers so i can actually hear the dialog.
I disconnected my speakers from my macbook (1/8" i guess?) and jacked into the WDTV audio port, and only got a buzz.
the most obvious and intuitive solution doesnt work at all.
do i need glow in the dark cables and stadium speakers, or is there an easy / cheap solution?
thanks!

What audio port, optical? The small analogue jack sends a combined signal of audio/video (composite) so you need to use the original cable.
