Well,

The best model is the model that suits YOUR needs most. 

The HD388 does not support MKV (the most common HD format by far) and does not do 1080p. So in my opinion is useless.
WDTV LIVE with current official FW > HDMI > DVDO > Sony CRT Projector 150" 16/9 screen.  Toslink audio to Yamaha DTS receiver. No Network set up yet.

Jay, I've been enjoying your posts. Indeed, it was the support of MKV that swayed me, plus the support of drives that aren't necessarily formatted w/FAT32.
