The WD TV Live will only play a VOB file on its own if you rename it to a m2ts file, otherwise it shows an error message saying the file format is not supported. However, if you try to rewind or fast-forward it, it jumps forward by about a minute whenever you make it start playing normally again. It can rewind and fast-forward the video fine if it is in a folder with the other DVD files, so I don't see why it shouldn't br able to play the video file on its own. If it makes any difference, I am playing the files from an external USB hard-drive (NTFS).

I have included a screen capture from GSpot showing the details of the codecs used in the VOB file.

So why not play the complete folder?  As you say it plays fine and it will also play all the *.vob in the folder instead of you going to fetch the next one in the sequence once the first is finished.

Not sure it's a bug.  It is meant to play ISO or DVD folders (which would include the ifo, vob etc....)

But what if you ripped the DVD as a single VOB file and don't have the additional DVD files?

Anyway, I just tried converting the VOB file to a standard MPEG2 Program Stream with a .mpg suffix using PVAStrumento and the WDTV had the same problem when I tried to rewind and fast-forward the file. Since the WDTV does claim to support mpeg2 files, this is definitely a bug.
