Reverting the firmware back to a previous version

(1/2) > >>

jayallan:
If you would like to revert then follow these simple steps.

take the 1.01 package, unzip it.
Inside you will find 2 files "wdtv.ver" and "wdtv.bin".
Open "wdtv.ver" with notepad or a comperable editor and you'll see this :

Quote:
VERSION='1.02.00'
LOCATION='wdtv.bin'

Juste change it to
Quote:
VERSION='1.03.00'
LOCATION='wdtv.bin'
and answer YES to the save prompt.

Now place these files in root of your usb device and flash away.

This will bypass the firmware version check and down-date to an older firmware version. :)

This sounds as if and when an actual 1.03.00 version does come out we won't be about to load because we will aready have a 1.01  version under that name.

Rev Drew:
from what I have read, this is how it works;
before flashing it, it gets the version from wdtv.ver. once it's loaded it reads the info from the actual firmware.

meaning, you can 'fool' it into thinking it's anything you want, and load anything you want onto it.

jayallan:
That is correct.  It will save it as it's actual Ver number.  So any updates will be able to install.
