New here... Need some info here.. I have the old simple player, with WD original firmware, 1.03. from 2009...
I was wondering if there is any custom firmware for me to install? I can play mkv files, but not with .sub files, only .srt.
and I also have problems playing some mkv files, with DTS sound, is there a fix for this too?

IM totally new here, hopefully I post this in the right section..

I believe you have the original Live.  You can tell which you have by checking the serial from this site.
http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?level1=10&lang=en
If it is in fact the Live there is custom firmware for it.  Two AMOF.  One based on 1.02.21 which uses WDTVExt plugins.  The other is based on 1.05.04.  No WDTVExt plugins but great firmware none the less.

Yes there is a custom firmware for this device but I am not familiar with what it does.
http://wiki.wdlxtv.com/Main_Page#Older_WDTV_Gen_1_devices
The Wiki will explain what it is, what you can get from it and how to get it.
