Putting it into standby only turns off the video out, it does not put it in a lower powered state, either leave it on, or unplug it as you aren't really saving anything.

WD has gotten out of media players, I don't think they even support them anymore, so a new firmware is not likely going to happen.
I have the original WD media player, the Live and the Live Plus and they all work fine with component, you may have a hardware fault, they may consider that for a warranty return, if it's still under warranty.

Im not looking for 'new' Im looking for 'a version' that definitely works on my model with component.
What versions are you using......

Have you run a scan disk on the drive with the PC?
And always eject the disk, never just unplug it.

WDTV Video / Re: PROBLEM PLAYING M3U FILES
« Last post by FannieJane on February 14, 2017, 02:24:25 AM »
Files with the .m3u8 file extension are the basis for the HTTP Live Streaming format used by Apple to stream video to iOS devices. These files contain MP3 playlist files and they are used by a variety of media applications and online radio stations. These files do not contain any actual audio data. M3U8 files are stored in a plain-text format. Files with the .m3u8 extension are a unicode version of the M3U file format. With the ability of exporting M3U8 files in Pavtube products, users who own either iOS or Android smartphones and tablets can upload videos to their HTTP server and then stream to portable devices for viewing and sharing with customers or friends.

WDTV LIVE - General Discussion / Windows 10

I recently changed computers and went from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro.
I am having problems getting my WDTV Live player to recognize the external hard drive that has all of the videos.
Anyone have any thoughts or similar issues?

At the moment I get a picture but its NOT colour.
IF I plug the WDTV in to my monitor with HDMI it's fine.
