Title: DTS through the RCA outs?
Post by: CitizenJane on January 15, 2009, 10:17:10 PM
Hi everyone!

This may be a dumb question,
but can I play DTS sound from the RCA out of the WDTV?

Optical in is not available on my older Yamaha receiver.

Thanks in advance!   ;D

No,

Unfortunately the DTS is only a digital signal.  The WDTV does not have a DTS license so it does no internal decoding.   The optical out will pass the DTS to an external decoder, but you will not be able to get any sound from the analog outs.

So WDTV will not pass 5.1 sound through the toslink output or HDMI? So it only converts to stereo output?

Daz,

The WDTV will pass 5.1 out through the toslink or the HDMI.  Just not through the RCA outs as the OP asked.  Also, you must have a DTS decoder in your receiver to get DTS.
