Title: USBHUBS and power with the WDTV
Post by: Jackman on March 31, 2009, 07:46:09 AM
Hi I got hand on a USB Hdisk and connected it to the WDTV, It did not work as my USb stick and I expect this to be the reason of to little power to the disk. I then pluged a power 5V in the hdisk ans started again. THe WDTV did not do a thing.
I have now bought a 4 port USB hub wiht a power adapter adn when I plug in the USB power the WDTV wont boot, the asme happends when I use the HU with not power adn the HDisk connected to the HUB and powered the Hdisk wht iis Poweradapter.

It seems that in the moment the WDTV fdind out that a unit had connecct a power adapter it turns off the USB port, proberly to protect it or to precent use of etra units with USB hub, The strange thing is that I knwo that some pepople are using Powered USB hubs and Powered USB disk and it works.. ANy idea?

I have powered usb hub.
If I connect it (with power adaptor) to wdtv before connect the wdtv power adaptor, wdtv can't boot.
You must first (or exatly same time) connect wdtv power adaptor, after that You can connect external powered hubs or disks.
I am connected (wdtv+usb hub) my switched surge protector, and working fine.

Anyone know why its like this? that power must be conneted to hubs justa after the power to the wdtv is connected?
