Title: WDTV Live Plus Netflix stopped working
Post by: yoyoma on August 12, 2010, 06:42:02 AM
I have two WDTV live plus units, both on the same home wired subnet.  Last night on one of them, when I go to netflix, I get a message to the effect, "Instant Queue temporarily unavailable, try again later".  I thought it was a problem with my network and/or netflix, but I went to my other unit and it worked just fine, I was streaming all night from it.

I tried it again this morning, same problem.  I tried power cycling (both soft & hard), replugging the LAN cable etc.  No luck.  I know the unit can see the external network because I can still listen to Pandora from it.  Both units are going through the same home router.  Both devices are registered with netflix and was working fine on both devices until the one seemed to crap out last night.

Any ideas??

Ok, so I called netflix support, they did not see anything wrong on their end.  Then I called the WDTV 30 day support line, after a while on hold a guy came on & took my name & number saying they'd call back, they never did.

On a lark I did a factory reset, I then had to re-enter my activation code (can't remember if it was the same as the initial code, I hope it was because I don't want netflix to recognize this as a new device).  Now all seems ok, going to keep an eye on it to see if it happens again.

It's a firmware issue with the WD Live Plus player.  Supposedly, WD is working on a fix.  Basically, what happens is the player forgets how to communicate with the Netflix servers.  Instead of running a factory reset, you can deactivate and reactivate the player.  Just do the following (yes, I know it sounds insane, but it works):

1.  From within the Netflix application, use the arrows on the remote control to do the following keystroke sequence:
          * up > up > down > down > left > right > left > right > up > up > up > up
2. Select Deactivate
3. Select Yes"

As late as July 2013, this worked for me and solved my problem.  Thank you!

Note: I was confused at first by the asterisk and the greater-than signs.

It's just:
up up down down left right left right up up up up
  deactivate
  yes

(then, you'll need to re-enter your email address/password the next time you try to connect to Netflix)

aaronlindstrom I registered to this forum just to tell you THANK YOU! I tried everything i could find on Google without any luck, but yours solved the problem.
I just used your #1 line (it didn't take me to your #2 and #3) pressed on Netflix after
up > up > down > down > left > right > left > right > up > up > up > up
and it works.
Thanks again.
