Sorry, but I tried to use that app with ext3-boot and It doesn't work, when integrate my mod on b-rad's firmware I will make the sreenshots.

Nice Job Julito!!! is it compatible with b-rad's firmware? (es compatible con la version de b-rad?)

Hola! Yes It is compatible, but I need to be able to change the files inside the .bin, I can mount the .bin, but the files are "read only" and when I copy them to a folder with the necessary permissions I don't know how to re-do the .bin.

I need b-rad's help, or someone who knows how to change the files and re-do the .bin (using linux of course  ;))

Looks nice! Familiar background image ;-)

Thank you! I think It's a KDE background but I found It searching backgrounds in google...  ;D

I take the icons searching in google "png icons"  :D, I don't know that you had a icon pack. Could you give me the link to see them.

Thank you!

Well the proper way to do it is the following:

then anyone, with any distro places your *.osd.bin onto a device at boot and they're presented with your theme.
Title: Re: My osd mod

Well the proper way to do it is the following:

  • copy the entire osd directory somewhere
  • modify the couple xml files
  • change the images
  • make a cramfs image of the osd directory into juliiojs.osd.bin
  • distribute

then anyone, with any distro places your *.osd.bin onto a device at boot and they're presented with your theme.

Ok, thank you!

But the people is asking me to view my mod without a pen connected. Could I edit the files in another folder with the write permissions and make a full firmware .bin?

Is correct this command to do the .bin?:

Code: [Select]
mkcramfs folder wdtv.bin
Is it any (more) brick posibilities flashing WDHDTV with this .bin?

Thank you!!

or are they only for your bin?

Yes it will work perfectly in a english WDTV, the only "problem" is that the video menu title is "Vdeo" with ""...

The "Archivos" folder is only for developers who want to see the xml or image files without mount the .bin

ah ok thanks.
put it on my stick and it runs perfect:) i think it also is faster than the original gui
also the big pictures look very nice:)
i found only a small "bug"...there is no more icons for my usb drive in the main menu. i only see the name, but no icon
i use the mod without a media library

this is an example of a dynamic, memory loaded theme. Since theres only a few xml files & some small images you can do this no problem.

What it means is once its loaded you may remove the device containing the theme and it will persist when you use the power button on the remote. The theme lasts until you power cycle / reboot your wdtv.

I like the larger icons on the home screen.

I'd like to start testing some of my own theme ideas, but first i want to look at this one. Am I just to copy the files onto my HDD and update the firmware?
Thanks I'll post my ideas once I get them working.

So I added the files to my HDD and started the upgrade after 45 min of nothing but a black screen I assumed something went wrong. So I disconnect power and HDD, reloaded the original firmware and it reset.

So what was with the black screen for so long? Is it because I have 400gb of media? It usually loads it up in under 10sec.
Can anyone else confirm that they got this OSD mod to work.

Thanks,
KJake

I have modified the official firmware with my mod and attached the osd.bin created by b-rad for use it with WDLXTV.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VTFLWBTD

With this .zip you can use my mod with any firmware:

-Official: You don't need to use a pendrive.
-WDLXTV: You need to turn on with the osd.bin in a pendrive but later you can remove it. (Thank you b-rad)
-Ext3-boot: You must to keep the pendrive connected to WDTV always.

(see readme.txt)

Hi Julio, nice work!!!
Just one question, i notice that the thumbs are larger witch is great. Do they keep de original resolution (120 x 180) and are extended to the new one, or does this OSD allow thumbs with native higher resolution.
Best regards from Portugal.

With my mod the thumbnail resolution is 162x230. You can check it putting the same thumbnail two times with (120x180) and (162x230) resolutions. You should see the 162x230 thumnail better than 120x180.

Ok, here you have my little script for mount, edit and rebuild the wdtv.bin.

It only works with the official firmware.

If you edit WDLXTV with this script, the new .bin bricks the WDTV.

B-rad, could you tell us how to modify WDLXTV's .bin?  Thank you!!!

Code: [Select]
#!/bin/sh

echo The file must be named "wdtv.bin"

echo Mount folder:
read tmp
mkdir $tmp

echo Edition folder:
read edt
mkdir $edt

sudo mount wdtv.bin $tmp -o loop,offset=32
sleep 1
rsync -avHS $tmp/* $edt/

echo ---------Edit files on "$edt" folder and press ENTER------
read null

mkcramfs $edt wdtv.cramfs
sleep 1
md5sum wdtv.cramfs | dd bs=32 count=1 > wdtv.md5
sleep 1
cat wdtv.md5 wdtv.cramfs > wdtv_mod.bin
echo DONE!!

Yes, this is a complete firmware. If you only want the osd-mod for use it like an addon with WDLXTV see this guide from b-rad's site:

If you modify the .bin you have always risk of breaking WDTV, be careful.

Yes, you can edit any file, but I don't know the WDTV's memory limit...

IMPORTANT: The cover's size is 191x270 on the screen, but if you put a cover with this resolution WDTV's pixelize it. At the moment, I recommend to put the covers at 162x230 resolution until finds better option. (Thanks to kmika7e).

Hi juliojs !

I just realized a test by changing 2-3 things (pictures) in the original WDTV firmware.

I followed your script on page 3, but there's a problem in step "mkcramfs $edt wdtv.cramfs" ; i have the message "warning: gids truncated to 8 bits (this may be a security concern)".

the next steps work without problem but the "wdtv.bin" generated does not : the wdtv restarts continuously after the upgrade...

What's wrong ? Any help please ?

You have to update (or delete) checksums on md5sums.txt.

Done... I calculated the checksum of modified files and edited (manually) the file md5sum.txt...

But still have the same "warning: gids truncated to 8 bits..."

Copy folders and remake the .bin image with mkcramfs

I think there is no problem with that warning message...

Here's what I did (using virtualbox, xp as host, ubuntu as guest) :

# sudo mount wdtv.bin /home/lilibabe/fw -o loop,offset=32

I have changed nothing in the original fw just to test...

# mkcramfs /home/lilibabe/fw wdtv.cramfs
# warning: gids truncated to 8 bits (this may be a security concern)
# md5sum wdtv.cramfs | dd bs=32 count=1 > wdtv.md5
# cat wdtv.md5 wdtv.cramfs > wdtv.bin

Then I put the "new" wdtv.bin on a usb key and the wdtv detects an update, then performs the update and so on, looping...

I think that this is your problem... "wdtv.bin"
You must generate a new "wdtv_mod.bin", see my script and use it to avoid this problems...

Code: [Select]
#!/bin/sh

echo The file must be named "wdtv.bin"

echo Mount folder:
read tmp
mkdir $tmp

echo Edition folder:
read edt
mkdir $edt

sudo mount wdtv.bin $tmp -o loop,offset=32
sleep 1
rsync -avHS $tmp/* $edt/

echo ---------Edit files on "$edt" folder and press ENTER------
read null

mkcramfs $edt wdtv.cramfs
sleep 1
md5sum wdtv.cramfs | dd bs=32 count=1 > wdtv.md5

cat wdtv.md5 wdtv.cramfs > wdtv_mod.bin
echo DONE!!

I named it "wdtv.bin" but it's the same with "wdtv_xyz.bin"... The original wdtv.bin ans the new wdtv.bin weren't in the same location, so that's not a problem i think.

Edit : don't know what was wrong, now it works !

Thank you for your help juliojs...

Just another question : is there a way to create a list of checksums for each modified file rather than a checksum for each file ? what is the command line ?

Yes, it's possible, but remember that png images are bigger than jpg and WDTV has image file size limit...

I remember that replacing welcome_background_bg.JPG with welcome_background_bg.PNG WDTV shows the las one without replacing xml files, but I'm not sure, check it!

I just try to add a graphic element and change the xml file, it works!

But for issues of memory, I don't think we can assign a specific wallpaper for each media type (videos, music, photos)...

Another question : in "osd/image/" folder there is, for example, "home_music_main_icon_n.JPG" AND "home_music_main_icon_n.PNG"...

I slightly changed the icons to see where they were displayed... It appears that PNG one is used when the music icon is selected (focus).

But i don't know when the JPG one is used and which icon is used when the music icon isn't selected (don't appear to be the PNG one too !)

Any idea ?

Yes, you can, just change wallpaper location on the xml header...

for example, for video menu:
in "inc_video_thumb_browse.xml"
<page background="imagelocation" ...........

Title: Re: My osd mod

Sorry Juliojs, another question  ;)

One thing I do not understand... In your modified wdtv.bin, for example "home_music_main_icon_n.JPG" is the original (WD) file and doesn't appear in you screen capture (p.1).

I also created my wdtv.bin from the original to change things (icons, etc.). But, for example, original "home_music_main_icon_n.JPG" is displayed when music item doesn't have the focus and my homemade "home_music_main_icon_n.PNG" is displayed when music item have the focus.

?!?!?

Is there a cache bug or something like that?

osdMod v0.4 beta

File info available!

You can select the file info titles language: "es", "en" , "de", "fr", "it", "pt"

(http://i7.tinypic.com/80zey4x.jpg)-->(http://i4.tinypic.com/86jeck4.jpg)

Code: [Select]
osdMod v0.4b by juliojs

****************************
* wdtv-osdmod.blogspot.com *
****************************

Based on elmarweber's event-osd

IMPORTANT: It's a BETA version, so USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Installation:
- It works with brad's WDLXTV, so install it.
- Copy "event-osd.app.bin" and "osdModv04b.app.event" to a pendrive's root.
- You must always keep pendrive puted in.
- If you turn on WDTV without the pendrive, it will load the default theme.

Functionalities:
- Posibility of view file info and synopsis before play the movie.
- "Photo" menu thumbnails increased to 200x200.
- "Home" menu thumnails are 6x2 at 192x230.
- Some "Home" menu changed.

How to use:
- To show the "file info" go over the folder who contains the file info / movie, and press ENTER like openning it, for exit press BACK.
- The movie info activates when you have a "datos.txt" file on the folder.
- If the folder doesn't have the "datos.txt" file, it shows the normal thumbnail mode.
- The folder must contain a "caratula.jpg" file, the file info will show it at 350x496. (You don't need to resize the images, keep them at the (higher) original resolution, WDTV will resize them without pixelize).
- The file "datos.txt" format:

version # For future versions..., now keep the "1"
language # File language, it can be: "es", "en" , "de", "fr", "it", "pt".
title # Movie title
Genre # Movie Genre/s
Duration # Movie duration
Cast # Movie cast
year # Movie year
synopsis # Movie synopsis

You have the "Prueba" folder to test the "file info", copy it directly to a HDD/pendrive.

- IMPORTANT: Each line represents a parameter, so you must keep each parameter in its own line (do't press intro in a line), if you put same parameter in different lines WDTV will think that it belongs to the next parameter.

- Important DON'T use "", use simple '' instead.

Beta version limitations/issues:
- It takes around 3 sec. in display the file info, beacause it has to generate the xml file.
- The special characters may cause problems on "datos.txt"
- You can put (,,,,,,,,,) nut they will be converted to normal letters eg: ->n ->c
- If you enter to the video menu from the home and it shows directly the last file info viewed you must to press ENTER and when the normal file view is showed, press HOME.
- To avoid this, if you want to go to home menu from a "file info" menu, press BACK and then enter to a folder without the "datos.txt" and then press HOME.
- If you want to show file info, you must keep the movie folder name without spaces, use "_" or "-".

*Sorry for my poor english XD

Check my blog:

sorry, it works for me but it seems very unestable for some people... will be back when i fix it...

My feedback for what it's worth:

I downloaded, put it in my flash (overwrited my previous event-osd.app.bin from elmarweber) and everything woked fine (new icons and so on.. even if it was stargely slower tha before evry time I switched from one menu to another)..
The thing was that since I had the list mode and not the thumbnail mode, the filemanager looked the same..So I switched to thumbnail...Then I accessed the movie folder..Kaboom! the WDTV rebooted. I tried again with the same results.

Now I'm back with elmarweber's.. but I'm coming back when the beta upgrades:-)

(Note: I got ext3-boot and a lot of the apps that are around this forum... Don't know if there is some incompatibility)

tried to change the paths in scripts, because there is ext3-boot /tmp/mnt/app not present... But did not help.

I send you a PM with the link of the (I think) "fixed" version. Please chek it.  ;)

After applying the fix from below, it worked on ext3-boot. Very nice Design.
But you should test it again in list mode, you don't seem to regard it there.

Some tips (might be helpful for others who develop mods themselves)::
 * Don't use /tmp/mnt/apps, use /apps. This will make your mod work an both firmwares.
 * Enqueue your sed commands, instead of calling sed 30 times on the same file use the -e parameter (speed up).
 * When building new paths don't assume anything about the prefix, it may be that the path has no trailing /. So it's always safer to add a / when appending something to a path.

I adapted the paths in the scripts and config files fro m/tmp/mnt/apps to /apps.
It's probably best if you wait until juliojs releases a new version of the mod that contains the fixes.

I recommend Ant Movie Catalog too, it lets you take the info from internet automatically and then export it the way you like (html, txt, xml, etc etc etc) using any template you like to use (or you like to prepare yourself)...

     *                                      *
     ****************************************

Based on elmarweber's event-osd

IMPORTANT: USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Installation:
- It works with brad's WDLXTV or zorander's ext3-boot, so install one of them. They are included on this folder.
- Copy "event-osd.app.bin", "osdMod.app.bin" and "osdModv04.app.event" to a pendrive's root.

- The movie info activates when you have a "data.txt" or "data.xml" file on the folder.
- Configure "data.txt" is much easy than "data.xml", you only have to use a paremeter for each line, but if you use "data.xml" you will not see the special characters, for example, if you have a "" you will see a "ny", an "" -> "a", etc...
- If the folder doesn't have the "data.txt" or "data.xml" file, it shows the normal thumbnail mode.
- The folder must contain a "poster.jpg" file, the file info will show it at 350x496. (You don't need to resize the images, keep them at the (higher) original resolution, WDTV will resize them without pixelize).
- The file "data.txt" format:

version # For future versions..., now keep the "1"
language # File language, it can be: "es", "en" , "de", "fr", "it", "pt" or "ru".
title # Movie title
Genre # Movie Genre/s
Duration # Movie duration
Cast # Movie cast
year # Movie year
rating # Movie rating
synopsis # Movie synopsis

You have the "Prueba" folder to test the "file info", copy it directly to a HDD/pendrive.
Also you have a "data.xml" for test it.

- IMPORTANT: Each line represents a parameter, so you must keep each parameter in its own line (do't press intro in a line), if you put same parameter in different lines WDTV will think that it belongs to the next parameter.
- IMPORTANT: DON'T use "", use simple '' instead.

Version limitations/issues:
- If you use the "data.txt" file it takes around 3 sec. in display the file info, beacause it has to generate the xml file.
- The special characters may cause problems on "data.txt"
- You can put (,,,,,,,,,) on the "data.xml" file but they will be converted to normal letters eg: ->n ->c
- If you enter to the video menu from the home and it shows directly the last file info viewed you will see where are you really on the "filename" (down) you can move over the files/directories prerssing up or down arrows, then enter where you want and you will see the normal view again.
- To avoid this problem, if you want to go to home menu from a "file info" menu, press BACK and then, enter to a folder without the "data.txt" or "data.xml" and then press HOME.
- If you want to show file info, you must keep the movie folder name without spaces or special characters, use "_" or "-".

*Sorry for my poor english XD

Great Work!!! its great that you can modify the xml with more info (addeded Audio and Resolution). now i have to make xmls for all my movies, that will be a lot of work. or is someone allready working on a xml writer with mediainfo/imdb information :)

PS: there is a bug in the "main" skin, in home-menu, when you can choose USB1 and USB2, the USB icons are still the regular ones and the one not selected, is always a bit cut off... not a big problem, but perhaps it is an easy fix.

anyway.. thanks!!

Excellent work juliojs.
I have to report a problem although: (i've been testing it in your puebra folder ONLY)
often going from one folder to another, both with data.txt and poster.jpg, movie infos change correctly but the poster does not, the old one remains. Any clue?

Another thing: Is it possible to save xml data generated on-fly in the folder in order to avoid every-time regeneration and obtaining faster speed?

Thx a lot, bye

Check the poster extension, must be "poster.jpg" not "poster.JPG"

It's a good idea to save the autogenerated xml, I will implement it on the next version.

> Will be great if someone could do a xml auto generator program... it's not difficult create that software...

I'm using TheMovieDB for reference and their search returns XML files that I think are compatible with XBMC. Not really sure. My mod is saving those as movie.xml inside a _wdtv sub directory along with a back.jpg (backdrop) and folder.jpg (cover).

Maybe we should have some basic guidelines for this. Then both mods will be compatible if anyone wants to change from one to another.

My unfinished webbased PHP application is running on the WDTV (requires network) and can scan all dirs and save the XML and images within these directories.

Unfortunately there are still some hardcoded paths and it has only been tested with my SMB share so I don't know if it will run on NFS shares.

Merging the script with the also unfinished thumbnail downloader can easily fix the hardcoded path. I'll see if I can work on it some more and work towards a preliminary release.

it looks like your are not copying or link with -f (force) option.. And maybe, you can use a random image name for the link or copy so that you can browse several folders containing the movie information without loosing the cover image. Just an idea. Yes, I'm using the "cp -f " (only on the "poster.jpg", the xml use ln -sf) , maybe the problem is that it doesn't have time to copy the image... I will try usig ln -sf but it gave me errors sometimes...

Well, i found another thing that could help u out: the problem exists only when the movies folder are NOT on the root:

/Prueba/matrix & /Prueba/American_Gangster: switching between this two pruduces poster.jpg storage as described earlier and consequent error.

BUT

/matrix & /American_Gangster: switching here is correct!

AND ALSO

switching between /Prueba/matrix to /American_Gangster is fine!

It's clear the error manifests itself ONLY between subfolders belonging to the same motherfolder different than root (ex. /Prueba). That could be annoying if someone organizes his disk in subfolders, like /video /music /photo etc..

Title: Re: My osd mod
Post by: Akeron on June 10, 2009, 04:50:49 AM
Humm. I had same issue. It was coming from the fact that WDTV caches the xml and not the jpg... This means that if you have a parent folder that contains generated xml which uses jpgs, you have to use a specific jpg name. If not, then if you browse to another folder, the xml is cached again, using the same jpg name but maybe the jpg content is different.

Then if you come back to the first folder, the cached xml is used and the jpg again is reading the last jpg available.

You can fix this by creating links with random names to your jpg files and inject this into your xml. The xml will be cached with the correct random named jpg file. This way, when you browse several folder containing data.txt, the xml will always display the correct jpg content.

In my case, I am trying to find a way to clean the links after some time and not loosing the content if the user still browse the folders.

Maybe I am not clear, let me know and I'll try to explain better ^^
Title: Re: My osd mod
Post by: juliojs on June 10, 2009, 05:34:59 AM
I don't understand it well, sorry  :-\  (my english is not good  ;D)

Yes, maybe it's a problem with the xml cache... Should be great to execute a script AFTER enter to a folder (I don't know if it's possible with event-osd, maybe elmarweber could explain us).

I don't understand the problem because the "poster.jpg" is copied to the same folder each time. (/apps/event-osd/osd-backup/image/poster.jpg). Then, all the generated xml has the same "poster.jpg" route. So, if the script is executed it copies the "poster.jpg" to  (/apps/event-osd/osd-backup/image/poster.jpg), and makes the new xml... (It can not make the xml without copy the poster.jpg)

PS: Please see the script source code to give me an example...

Title: Re: My osd mod
Post by: Akeron on June 10, 2009, 05:55:15 AM
Humm. Well, the case I was having is when the parent folder also have data.txt. Then the xml caching needs to be handled carefully.

Imagine browsing the following structure using a single path to ../osd-backup/image/poster.jpg:

/movie/movie trilogy/data.txt
/movie/movie trilogy/movie1/data.txt
/movie/movie trilogy/movie2/data.txt
/movie/movie trilogy/movie3/data.txt

In this case, you need to have a poster.jpg renamed for each movie because when you browse back to "movie trilogy", the cache is read and your script is not triggered, so the xml displays ../osd-backup/image/poster.jpg with the content of the last poster.jpg from move1, movie2 or movie3.
Title: Re: My osd mod
Post by: makermaden on June 10, 2009, 06:01:22 AM
Your example is clear but why the script is not triggered even going from /movie/movie trilogy/movie1/ to /movie/movie trilogy/movie2/ ??
Title: Re: My osd mod
Post by: juliojs on June 10, 2009, 06:58:35 AM
Ok, you're right, but this is a very special case. It doesn't explain the makermaden's problem, because every time you use "ENTER" the WDTV read the NEW xml, the chache is used only when you press BACK...

I put in the title of the movie run find info using script, choose IMDB it pulls all the various info.  Then what.

If I understand I am choosing export from the file drop down list.  I then select CSV TEXT / XML

Then what selections should I make from the available fields > The export fields.

Then I save that file into the movie folder do I need to edit or modify the .txt file in anyway or is it correctly formatted from ant movie for the WD TV to display

Sorry a little confused, wanna make sure I am doing this right

Correct, I did many testing again, and the case I have is indeed a special case. And I also encounter the same issue than makermaden. Also I browse a flat folder tree containing only folders with data.txt inside. I sometimes have no background and only if I play and stop the movie I get back the correct background... Weird indeed.

EDIT: after googling a bit, I think it might be because of the size of the background jpegs... I set up my jpegs to 90%, I'll try this evening some jpegs at 75% to keep them well below 200ko...

No clue what you just said ??? unix I assume is linked to linux??

I am pulling the info from ant collector exporting it as a .txt file, then trying to format that to show properly have had no luck.  Can also export files as xml but no clue how to edit or format that properly.

I have a good computer knowledge but am lost with this stuff.

I use the Matrix example included with the firmware download and that works fine on the WDTV I try to format my txt files the same and it doesnt work.  This is obviously something simple I am doing wrong since the example works.

No clue what the issue is besides my lack of understanding on how to properly format/edit the .txt file.

I export it via ant and edit in notepad to look the same as the matrix sample version.  Doesn't work.

Does someone have a prefilled in txt template I can use and just add my movie info.  Not sure why I cant figure it out sad :-\

Try removing: "/"   -> "sci-fi/action"

That fixed it. man mad at myself now for not noticing that and I looked at the darn file 50 times already.  Thanks juliojs for helping and others and for this neat add on.  Sorry for my ignorance and missing the simple \ took it out other places in the txt file and missed that one. :-[

where are you guys pulling your posters from just google search or some other site?

Another silly question with ants collection it pulls ratings as numbers 7.25/10 etc is there a site that shows ratings using stars * like in the matrix txt file.  Using the number ratings throws it all out of whack.

Hi, all.
the mod works just fine. Once again my thanks to the author. :)

By dmaosd: data.xml to be in utf-8 without signature in the header. Otherwise, the player restarts at the opening description.
Tip: To create the descriptions I use "Personal Video Database" - is exported to xml from a template.

Hi juliojs.

I am currently testing your OSD mod in particular to be sure that there is no incompatibility with my app.bin.

I have discovered a bug. If the folder containing the data is "juliojs", it works fine 8) If the folder name contains a space, for example "test juliojs", it does not work.
I have not checked your script but I imagine you could have forgotten to escape path with "" somewhere.

Except that, good work :)

Yes, it was a known bug I noticed it on the readme.

I will fix it on the next release, I think the problem is here:

Code: [Select]
if [ -e ""${newpath}/"data.txt" ] ; then
I don't know why have I put the '{}'   ???

Thanks for the advise, I will check it!

PS: Good job on your osd mod!! The "config menu" is a very good idea, I think that I can implement this also on my osd mod for select the thumb size or activate the file info like in your mod. If you need any change on my mod to make it compatible with yours, please say to me.

Regards!

I think you line code should be just like that:

The problem is the double " at the beginning.

Currently, our two mods are partially incompatible.
The fact that two different scripts are triggered by event-osd seems to lead to unexpected result, meaning sometimes black background for my folder.
And the way you override the OSD files with your modified files is not how I expected. You do it very late (S71xxx). So my switch system seems to have no effect, which is not really a big deal but in this case OSD settings folder should not be displayed.

AFAIR putting a variable in curly brackets is used to explicitly mark the variable name. E.g. you have the variable name $fruit and want to create the string $fruitloop (without space between $fruit and loop). $fruitloop does not work because the shell looks for the fruitloop variable, instead you can use ${fruit}loop to make it clear.

juliojs,

in a first place I was surprised to not see restore script in your app. Then I finally understood how you handle that and I first thought it was a good idea. But in fact, you restore YOUR files each time the user changes directory. What you do gives no chance to another app to use event-osd in case your script is the last one triggered (because you overrides what another app could have done, even when you have nothing special to do for the current folder !). And you do things each time which should take a little unnecessary time. And if the user, for a reason, change the pattern in your app.event, your restore system could not work in certain cases.
I think it would be great if you could use the system described by elmarweber.

We have to define common rules if we want to have app working together.

I will make proposals to improve that in event-osd topic.

why is thte background on the movie-info  screen darker than the normal menu background? i assume its a different one so you can read the screentext a bit better... would it be possible in a future version that you can modify this one too and put a custom background in your movie folder?

Maybe (for a future version) you could edit the background a bit more, like WDTV black backgrounds (this semi transparent, faded style) behind the text fields or arround the cover...

Hi Juliojs,

I had a look at your blog and the preview of the new movie info screen looks amazing ^^ Excellent work!

Do you plan to have selection of the language for the information sections? For example, to choose English for the text "Director" or French "Ralisateur" etc. ?

Do you know if the people developping the movie info extraction will allow extract from French movie site such as www.Allocine.fr?

Do you plan to support for multi-level backgrounds? For example, parent folder is "Alien Quadrilogy" and contains a background and inside you have child folders containing each Alien movie with their background...

If it helps you, I have myself added support for this by creating several copies of the background, one for each folder level. This way, you can browse several level of background without issue. There is only one issue for the moment. After some times (browsing 10-20 movies), the cache of the WDTV seems to saturate and you have a black background. But if you start and stop the movie, the cache is cleared and you have the background displaying.

Look at this code:
Code: [Select]
if [ -f "./TViX.jpg" ]; then
  ln -fsn /apps/event-osd/osd-backup/basic_browse_thumb_video.mod.xml /apps/event-osd/osd-backup/basic_browse_thumb_video.xml
  level=` pwd | sed 's/[^/]//g' | wc -c`
  cp -f "./TViX.jpg" /tmp/background_${level}_TViX.jpg
  sed -e "s/background_.*_TViX/background_${level}_TViX/g" -i /apps/event-osd/osd-backup/basic_browse_thumb_video.mod.xml
  nohup /apps/event-osd/bin/directory_restore.sh &
fi

Another question, how many seconds it takes to generate and display the movie background and information?

Bye

Hi!

Thank you for the "folder level" idea! I will implement it. As you say, the cache problem is bad for us... I had the same black background problems navigating through 10-15 folders with my actual movie info... I have no idea how to solve the ploblem... maybe erasing the cache after some time...  ???

The software for the movie info extraction is very powerful, the developer says that he will implement xml templates for each language, at the moment the supported languages will be: es, en, fr, ge, it, pt, br, pl and ru. Maye i will need help translating some words...  :D . This software will support also a custom xml template, so you would make your custom xml template.

This software support a lot of internet movie DB in different languages (yes, it support allocine.fr).

Sorry for not to say the software name, I don't wan't to stress the developer to release the new version...

Regards and thak you again for your idea!!! ;D

Hi juliojs.

I checked again the compatibility between your app and mine.
IMHO, there is a big problem with the way you restore files each time the user changes directory. By the way, in my particular case, that is not a real problem because my script is triggered after yours so my actions can undo what you do. I don't know if this order will be the same for everybody. That would be something to check with elm (event-osd).
Except that, it's working more or less and the problem is always the same: memory problem (cache). Please check and comment this topic, I propose a workaround that could help us:

Finally it's available the new version of my osdMod!

v0.5

Before testing it a few days with the betatesters it's available to download.

There are a lot of changes, much of them are in the internal code, but the most visible change is the new 'osdMod menu' where you can change different options. (See readme file and the screenhots).

Also I've included support to export the movie info TXT automatically from the internet with 'VisualDivx' a powerful PC movie manager software. Now I've add a special solution (see 'VisualDivx' folder readme) to the v0.85 but the developing team of this software and me are working together to add a option to export the movie data to a compatible WDTV XML file on the new version (v1.0) of this software. Check this powerful software at http://www.visualdivx.org/ (http://www.visualdivx.org/)

Some screenshots (more on the blog):

Using Imdb in english to pull the info, in never pulls the cast info, do I have to type in all the actors for each movie?

It also doesn't pull cover art.  I must be doing something wrong.

Are you asking me about VisualDivx? Try to update the scripts...

Check if you have any special character in the cast list, all the cast names must be in ONE line.

Yes when i pull the info

i.e. I enter movie bolt, select pull info from internet, using the imdb english script, it pulls all info director, rating, length, etc but the cast names I have to copy and paste them in for some reason it doesn't fill in that info.  It also does not pull subs, or details I have to manually add those to the data.txt file.

2.  I did Yes Man, backdrop woks but no folder or data info.

3. Bolt, Data is there but no backdrop.

To update the info on the screen, you must DELETE first the auto-generated XML file, because it takes XML before TXT, so try to delete XML and then, modify the TXT with "Notepad++" or other text edito, but NOT with Windows notepad.

All this issues with the 'movie data' TXT files will be solved on the next version of Visualdivx, this is a temporal patch for let to osdMod work with the actual version of Visualdivx

The Bolt movie info that you pasted is correct, it works for me...

If the backdrop and poster images are big files (in data) you must convert them to get a small file...

Any idea when version 1.0 will be out.

I am obviously doing something wrong, yet all data files are formatted the same all backdrop, folder images are close to the same size.

There has to be an easier dummy proof way.

Otherwise your work is awesome and very much appreciated.

Hi,

same here.

I think I missed something, because it doesn't work for me.

what I did:

ext3-boot 0.9.2 works perfect with LaurentG mod, I wanted to try your mod.

- reformat usb key
- unzipped your last mod (there were 2 files wdtv.bin and wdtv.ver) to the root of usb stick
- I put net.mount and net.config to the root of usb stick
- reboot wdtv
- wdtv said that new firm found and I press ok then your firm flashed, after finished it reboot again.
- after reboot I tried to ftp to wdtv but it fails. it didn't get an ip.But it was working with ex3-boot so cabling or network adapter can't be broken.
- and I must say that only folder pictures showing, other benefits of your work didn't work too.

I have to say that I tried both media library on and off.

P.S: it is very interesting that when I remove usb stick and reboot, it boots and works as explained above. But As I know ext3-boot doesn't work without usb stick.

any suggestion?

Thanks

juliojs,

I started to use your osdMod 0.5 and it is simply great! On my 16/9 TV it is perfect. But, I do also have a 4/3 old TV and it seems the overscan is too big so I am missing some details on left and right borders of the image.

Any chance, the osd templates could be reduced a bit on left and right to fit a 4/3 TV overscan? I believe there is roughly 30-40 pixels on each side that could be not visible.

I can post a template 5x2 I modified from your osdMod 0.5 template to fit into the overscan if you want. You can then see what how big is the overscan.

I hope this doesnt sound stupid but I am not getting how to do this. I have WDLXTV 5.5 installed as-well as Juliojs mod but I can only see the background movie info via - photos not when I open the file for pre-view. Can someone please walk me through how to do this properly? Please I need some help! do I need to go thru every update  to the mods in order to make this work properly?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

This is because you are installing the wrong version, you are using the IN STALLABLE version of osdMod v0.5, this version only has the osdMod theme (background, icons...) it has not support to movie info.

You have to download the app.bin version, you have the link in my blog.

Cool, here is the Osdtheme 5x2 I modified from your osdMod 0.5 to fit my 4/3 TV. I guess you need feedback from other users having 4/3 TV because the overscan might be slightly different on each TV...

I changed the following:
- "x=" and "w=" values to shrink a bit the left and right borders.
- put "cols=" value back to 5. Don't know why for 5x2 theme, it was still "cols=6" in the inc file.
- put minimal value for "colspacing="
- removed "th10" lines because not needed if only 5 thumbnails.
- move Title field to the left a bit as well as the item counter
- move the title and item counter xml code to the top of the xml to have correct display
- increased the title "h=" value so that we don't have a small bit of letter remaining due to too small frame size.

Hope this helps ^^

Anyway here is the content of the inc_video_thumb_browse.xml file for theme 5x2:

If you can see the theme the osdMod is loaded, so you must give the propperly name to you movie sheet, please read the "readme.txt" and the "osdMod.conf.txt" you have all the info on this files.

Can someone please be more specific, which link in the blog? there are like 6 of them. Whats on the root of your usb-stick?

Download the latest app.bin version (v0.5), NOT the installable (wdtv.bin) version, you will see a readme.txt file inside the zip file will all the info that you need to install it correctly.

I feel a bit dumb asking this, but I have read a lot of pages now and I can not find what I am doing wrong.

I installed the mod.
I also putted the app.bin files to the root of my usb disk

Then I configured a movie with the correct data, like in the examples.

When I boot my WDTV then I see the new modded background and the new icons of the sections, like video etc..
However I dont see a special menu item for this mod.
When I go to the movie, then I don't get the extra information.

What am I doing wrong?

Hi guys,

first of all sorry for my English  ;)

I wrote a little JAVA-program that converts the xml-files generated with moviejukebox to data.txt/xml files. It also copies the moviejukebox-thumbnails to folder.jpg. Here an example of the usage:

1. run moviejukebox against your movies folder . Moviejukebox parses the NFO-files of your movies and generates nice info. (the tool movieinfo is a big + when you use moviejukebox. Gets info from the movie files about audio, video ...)
2. run the  moviejukebox2osdmod with the generated "Jukebox"-folder as input parameter. Please use "-t" or "-x" option too. Or both.
3. copy the generated "Jukebox/dataFiles" directory structure to your movies-folder

Here link to the projectsite. In the download section is the jar-file.
http://code.google.com/p/moviejukebox2osdmod/ (http://code.google.com/p/moviejukebox2osdmod/)
Code: [Select]
usage: moviejukebox2osdmod
 -h,--help     shows this help.
-i,--input    input folder. The "Jukebox" folder with the xml-files generated with Moviejukebox.
 -t,--txt      Generate data.xml files.
 -x,--xml      Generate data.xml files.

Example:
java -jar moviejukebox2myosd.jar -i /tmp/Jukebox

Hope it helps. It works for me :) The current version is result of 2 hours work. So its probably full with bugs. You can write me tickets in the issues section.

(Linux) Please move to the moviejukebox2osdmod-0.0.1 directory first and than call the script.
Code: [Select]
./moviejukebox2osdmod.sh -i /home/sharan4o/test/Jukebox/ -x
(Windows) Please move to the moviejukebox2osdmod-0.0.1 directory first and than call the programm with:
Code: [Select]
java -jar moviejukebox2osdmod-0.0.1.jar -i /home/shari/test/Jukebox/ -xreplace  "/home/shari/test/Jukebox/"  with the "Jukebox" folder with the xml-files generated with Moviejukebox.

Thank You everyone!!
With b-rad's older firmware 0.4.3.2 I was able to avoid the mkv audio sync issue with the newer updates.
In combination with this osd mod and sharan4o's script to use with moviejukebox I was able to get all the functionality I need. I really love the moviesheets. Only drawback I find is the inability to use background images for each movie. They end being too large (I think) and they would never refresh. ( I was using LaurentG's mod at the time)

sharan4o,
Not sure what the issue is but when I use your script the Director field is the only one that is blank that I expected it to parse. Is this an issue with your script or moviejukebox?

FYI to all,
Make certain your folder.jpg images are kept as small as possible (under 100k?) May be someone else can recommend the limit. I found if you don't they eventually stop refreshing and every movie will have the same poster ( CD Cover). This is especially true if you use subfolders for movie sets like Indiana Jones for instance.

Thanks again everyone for all the hard work you put in to make things easier for the rest of us!!

Thank you, i finally found this brilliant osdMod for my WDTV. It works fine, the only question i have:

Is it somehow possible to browse the films direct in the movie-info page e.g. by pressing the >>| button to come to the next movie in info-layout? Now i have to go back always to the page with the film list, go to another folder and enter, and so on...

Maybe i missed something...please help!

sorry for my bad english.

I used WDLX latest version and LaurentG apps and all Folders are created with Tvixie and looks fine.
But this Mod looks optical very good - but it show not my wt_tv.jpgs :(

I have used wdlx latest and the latest mod. and it show me, that the mod installed. I See only the folder.jpg but not the wd_tv.jpg Movie Info.

the Standalone Mod firmware from here is very good - and! it boot my WDTV very very fast but the same problem.
WDLX only + LaurentG is very slow, but works.

But I will use this Mod + Tvixie Movieinformation.
Or this Standanlone Firmware + Tvixie Movieinformation (is it possible?)
Thanx for help

The movie info function does't work with the installed version, you need to install WDlxTV and run the mod app (like LaurentG mod's)

WDLX -> MyOSD Mod

My mod has the modded interface and the movie info support. It's 2 in 1.

Please read the readme.txt file, you have here all the info that you need...

Regards!

Hi Juliojs.

I am still using these on my WDTV v1:
- 1.02.10_B-RAD.CC_WDLXTV-0.5.5
- osdMod_v0.5

With that FW and your OSD, the WDTV boot up in about 4 minutes.  ???

So, will the boot up time after installing "1.03.01_B-RAD.CC_WDLXTV-0.5.8" and your "osdMod_v0.5_1.03.01_2" be much faster?
Is that what you have installed on your WDTV?

Thanks.

4 min. is too much!

Try to update your firmware to WDlxTV-0.5.8 and keep using the same version of my mod.

The "osdMod_v0.5_1.03.01_2" is the installable version and it doesn't has support for movie sheets/info.

FYI, the download link to your installable firmware osdMod_v0.5_1.03.01_2.zip is not working. I get all the way through to entering the captcha but the returned download link does not work. Is there anywhere else I can get this file?
