Title: How I got moviesheets to work [Guide]
Post by: darinseng on April 12, 2010, 11:43:18 PM
Ok,  I spent countless hours on trying to get this to work on all 4 of my WDTVLive boxes connected via a NAS box I have and hopefully this step by step guide will work for others.  Do not attempt any other mods or add any extra files until you have completed all of the below steps and verify that the movie sheets are working properly as this will help eliminate any compatibility issues.  Note: If you are using network shares, this guide is only for windows (CIFS) style shares and will not work for NFS or FTP shares without a different approach.

1. If you have not updated to the latest official WD firmware then do so now.

2.  Download the latest B-Rad WDLXTV_LIVE-0.4.1.9-6.zip from here.  http://rapidshare.com/files/369796600/1.01.24_B-RAD.CC_WDLXTV_LIVE-0.4.1.9-6.zip.  Note: This is tested for WDLXTV_LIVE-0.4.1.9-6 and may not work for future versions.

3.  Format a 1gb+ thumbdrive in FAT32 format

4. Copy *ONLY* the following files to the thumbdrive from the download in step 2:
wdtvlive.bin
wdtvlive.ver

5. Unplug the power to your WDTV Live and any attached USB devices and plug *ONLY* the thumbdrive into the side usb port then plug the power back in.

6. Update to the B-RAD firmware after the box boots up completly.

7. After the update completes 100% and boots back up, remove the power from the WDTV Live and then the thumbdrive.

8. Reformat the thumbdrive FAT32 again.  ***DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP***

9. Copy *ONLY* the following files to the thumbdrive from the download in step 2:
S00custom-options
net.mounts

10. Modify the  S00custom-options file on the thumbdrive by adding the following lines of code to the end of the file:
config_tool -c SHOW_FILESIZE_SETTING=0
config_tool -c MSHEETMODE=sheet
config_tool -c VIDMSHEET=ON
config_tool -c GENMSHEET=ON
config_tool -c LISTMSHEET=ON

11.  If you only have local usb disk with your movies on it and are not connecting to anything located on network disks skip to step 15.  Note: Moviesheets will not work properly without completing the following steps for network shares and the WD box will display the moviesheets along with all the jpg files at the same time making a clutered mess.  So if you want moviesheets to work with network shares you must continue with the next steps.

12.  For windows shares without security requirements (or NAS that presents as windows shares) copy the following files to the thumbdrive:
samba.app.bin (http://rapidshare.com/files/222297336/samba.app.bin-0.2.zip (http://rapidshare.com/files/222297336/samba.app.bin-0.2.zip))

13. Modify the net.mounts file on the thumbdrive to reflect the shares you want mounted.
#Example only yours will differ (I added the following to xmount my NAS share):
xmount "//192.168.1.250/Movies" "Movies" cifs

14. If you are connecting wirelessly to your NAS, uncomment (or add) the following line in your S00custom-options located on your thumbdrive:
config_tool -c NET_MOUNTS_DELAY=30

15.  Take your thumbdrive now and plug it back into your WDTV LIVE side located usb port and plug the power back into the WDTV Live.  Now wait 5 mins before you touch the WDTV Live remote to make sure it fully boots and any network mounts if defined have a chance to attach properly.

16. Your WDTV Live should now be able to display the movie sheets provided you have created the moviesheets and named them properly.

The following is an example of my NAS movie folder file name structure which works properly in Thumbnail mode:
Code: [Select]
C:\>dir \\media\Movies\temp_movie
Volume in drive \\media\Movies is Movies
 Volume Serial Number is 099Z-9999

 Directory of \\media\Movies\temp_movie

               2 Dir(s)  795,174,436,864 bytes free

Best of luck all and tons of thanks to B-Rad and all the others.

This is very informative. Any chance you could post an idiot guide on how to xmount? As I think that is my problem but I dont know where to start

Nice work. Instead of providing link to 0.4.1.9-6 firmware, provide a link to thread containing latest firmware. So later when the firmware is updated, this post is still valid !

Please also update how to create movie sheets or atleast post link to the relevant threads in the forum!
Need to link atleast two threads, one for template and other for template generator !

Then it will be good for a sticky !

I'd like to suggest people who are struggling with Movies Sheets to read this thread also...

http://wdtvforum.com/main/index.php?topic=5618.msg46331#msg46331 (http://wdtvforum.com/main/index.php?topic=5618.msg46331#msg46331)

Its from Thumbgen so you know its good-stuff.  ;)

In particular it is the section that reads:

config_tool -c LISTNUM=sheet
config_tool -c GENTHUMBS=sheet
config_tool -c THUMBRESO=sheet

3. In TG I set
MainSheet:  $M\$N$E_sheet.sheet
ExtraSheet: $M\$F_sheet.sheet

This section was the part that enabled me to FINALLY get moviesheets working.

Although true maybe you and him can post a seperate thread as a combined effort to help those who are having issues. Also, why the samba?

Ok,

10. Modify the  S00custom-options file on the thumbdrive to contain the following lines of code:
config_tool -c SHOW_FILESIZE_SETTING=0
config_tool -c MSHEETMODE=sheet
config_tool -c VIDMSHEET=ON
config_tool -c GENMSHEET=ON
config_tool -c LISTMSHEET=ON

First off thank  you SO much for this-- just had a quick question-- when you say modify do you mean just adding the above code at the bottom of the S00 file?

And for those of you below that used Thumbgen's as well-- did  you add his code AS well as the above or INSTEAD of?
Thank you!!!!

Also, a very simple guide to making movie sheets using thumbgen or other softwar would be so much appreciated-- or a link?
Many many thanks, spent hours on this today!

I made a few minor tweaks to my original post based on suggestions found in all of your replies.  Note: I am able to use Thumbgen without problems but I think there are already some pretty good threads out there that walk step by step what you need to do to get it working.

Thought I'd post my how to in here as well, as the other one probably doesn't get noticed now.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

My setup:

Windows home server with NFS server installed.
xmount to NFS server using /conf/net.mounts

ie:

Code: [Select]
xmount 192.168.1.250:/ACTION ACTION nfs tcp
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is how I got my 2nd WD Live working tonight after testing SHEETS on the 1st.

BEFORE trying moviesheets,
:: Make sure your movies are working correctly, IE, not displaying the JPG's as well as the Movies.
:: Make sure your running the latest B-rad EXT firmware from a USB device.(See elsewhere to sort these out 1st)

One of my folders for example

Next connect to your WD and run the following commands

Code: [Select]
config_tool -c MSHEETMODE=sheet
config_tool -c VIDMSHEET=ON
config_tool -c SHOW_FILESIZE_SETTING=0

Now reboot and you should see a single line of folders/movies.

If it doesn't look like that, go back and see whats going wrong first.

Create the moviesheets in place, I used thumbgen (others are available)

TOP Level view

Inside my ACTION folder

Example locations/name

ACTION
-------Enemy of the state.jpg
-------Enemy of the state.mpg
-------Enemy of the state.mpg_sheet
-------folder.jpg
-------folder.jpg_sheet.jpg

A slightly more advanced approach that I have now taken, is to put any movie that has a sequel in a sub folder
I advise you to not try this until the above is working

ACTION
-------BLADE
-------|------blade 1.jpg
-------|------blade 1.mpg
-------|------blade 1.mpg_sheet
-------|------blade 2.jpg

Hi all-- thanks for the help with this and this very informative thread-- really trying to get it going, but the blond in me is having some trouble-- any help appreciated.

I have the latest firmware (B-rad's) and I have put the s00 and mounts back on the pen drive after reformatting. I let it cycle, the LED lights go off, I take the pen drive out and plug in my WD Passport HD.

Still no movie sheets though, so I'm needing some help.
Attached is my s00 file-- does it look right?
Any help, SO appreciated!
thank you!
Meredith

P.S. also attached is my folder structure for example
Movies (And then inside, each movie has its own folder)-- then the files inside that folder-- see the attached for an example of how a movie file for the Prophet looks.

You know what?

I noticed that folder structure does not change anything for MovieSheets....
When the sheets are symlinked by B-Rad's script... they are all on the same level...
I also found out that you don't need to have the *_sheet.jpg files in the same folder has the movies....

Heres what I did, for every thing (file, folder, or even an other jpg) that you want a sheet for, just create a JPG with the correct dimensions (1280x720) and give it the same filename with "_sheet.jpg" appended to the end..
ie:
Avatar.avi --> avatar.avi_sheet.jpg
Batman.mkv --> Batman.mkv_sheet.jpg
Mypicture.jpg --> Mypicture.jpg_sheet.jpg
or a folder named "This new Movie" --> "This New Movie_sheet.jpg"

Now comes the tricky part.... if you are using xmount to mount a drive... you don't need to do anything...
after every xmount, a script auto scans the new mount for sheets.

If you are connecting via "Network Share" then you will need to run the detection script manually....
first access the shared folder at least once, then exit back out to the 1st menu screen of the WDTVLive
then Telnet into the WDTVLive (use putty or the WebFrontEnd)
and run this command
linksheets <absolutePath> 5

<absolutepath> should look something like this  "/tmp/ComputerName/SharedFolder"
ComputerName --> the name of your computer... same has seen from the WDTVLive Menu
SharedFolder  -->  the name of the actual shared Folder... Same has seen from the WDTVLive Menu

While the scrip is running the Power Led will blink... wait until it stops, then access your "Network Share" and you should be able to see your sheets....
Remeber that when accessing via "Network Share" ALL MEDIA FILES ARE SHOWN... JPG and AVI and MP3
Just scroll until you see and actual MOVIE file to see if the sheet is there...

Also an other way to confirm that its ok, FTP to the WDTVLive... and look inside the  /msheet  folder
you should see a list of all Linked Movies to sheets....
If a sheet is not showing... look for the Movie name in  /msheet  and see if it was linked to the sheet.

1. Wait for the blinking LEDs also after u plug in the WD Passport.

2. Your moviesheets are too big. Try with sizes under 250KB (There's an option in ThumbGen/Options/Moviesheet/ Limit filesize... put 250000 there)

What is the effect of having the sheets too big. Does it slow down or do they not display properly

I feel they don't display at all if they are too big. Having 500KB sheets was no go for me. Since I limit size to 250KB I can see them all (SHEET MODE)

Question about the s00 config file.  If you do not have the WDTV Live hooked up to a network ( only a USB hard drive containing the movies ) and you want to change the settings in the s00 config file does the b-rad firmware read / check for the s00 config file ?  Do you take the original s00 file ( the original you modified for movies sheets and is placed on a fat32 formatted thumbdrive by itself ) change the settings/add settings you want and place it back in the WDTV and plug the power back in.  Will b-rad's firmware see the s00 file and load the new settings ?

With no network setup is this how you would change the settings ?

Hi,

I'm trying to get my movie sheets to work without any success. probably you can help me:

I exactly followed your instruction and was able to get "the black screen with the thumbs at the bottom". then i tried to plug my HDD in (with moviesheets on it) with no success. -> Standby LED blinks all the time and never stops.

So I tried Titis Test Files and they worked fine. -> Standby LED stops after 10 secs of indexing the Pendrive. I Also tried my moviesheets with the vid files of the test files and they worked too.

I assume that there is a problem on my HDD but no idea what it is... it is NTFS formated.

does EVERY file on the hard drive needs a moviesheet? (every folder, unused stuff etc.)

This ist my Folder structure:
USB1
-Movies
--9.avi
--9.jpg
--9.avi_sheet.jpg
--9_sheet.jpg

the sheets are 250kb large and no one appears.

greetings

ps: sorry for my bad english but i tried my best ^^

For your structure this should work:

USB1
-Movies
--9.avi
--9.jpg
--9.avi_sheet.jpg
--8.avi
--8.jpg
--8.avi_sheet.jpg

yeah sorry i made a mistake -> it is 9.avi_sheet.jpg

but doesnt work anyway :(
Title: Re: How I got moviesheets to work [Guide]
Post by: jarak on April 14, 2010, 10:08:59 AM
I want that it looks this way:
Folder structure:
USB
Movies1
-Movies2
--9

on Movies1 there should be just a custom image (1280x720).

on Movies2: (http://i42.tinypic.com/2ug00b8.jpg) -> to get into folder "9"

on 9: (http://i43.tinypic.com/2jdq1hh.jpg) -> to start the movie

so it must be:
USB
Movies1
-Movies2
-Movies2_sheet.jpg
--9_sheet.jpg
--9.avi
--9.avi_sheet.jpg

is that right or is there any mistake?

Step one drives me crazy. I have flashed b-rad newest firmware 1.01.24_B-RAD.CC_WDLXTV_LIVE-0.4.1.9-6 on my WDTVLIVE. Everything works fine. I've got other steps working, like

Quote
config_tool -c MSHEETMODE=sheet
config_tool -c VIDMSHEET=ON
config_tool -c SHOW_FILESIZE_SETTING=0

I've got the single line thumbview at the bottom like expected. It looks like it should do, like screenshot two. I got working showing moviesheets one time, too. But now there's no way getting moviesheets working again.
I have no chance to get my network shares (videos in this case) working without showing other files in the folder like jpg's etc.

I have searched this forum again and again but I found no solution to fix this issue. Perhaps I use the wrong keywords or the search engine like to kidding me ;) I doesn't even know, if this is the problem. But anything I try, step by step in this threat or another, it get the same result. I'm unable to get moviesheets working probably.

Details of my Configuration

- WDTVLIVE via RJ45
- Shares on a WHS (Acer H340)
- no addional USB drives in working environment (unless the USB stick containing S00custom-options and net.mounts now to load the configs and hopefully get it work for configuration purpose)
- any folders consisting of movie.ext + folder.jpg or movie.jpg
- some folders consisting of movie.ext + movie.ext_sheet.jpg

folder structure

-parent folder
-- movie name 1
--- movie name 1.ext
--- movie name 1.ext_sheet.jpg
--- (movie name 1.jpg) or
--- folder.jpg
-- movie name 2
--- movie name 2.ext
--- movie name 2.ext_sheet.jpg
--- (movie name 2.jpg) or
--- folder.jpg

and so on...

any ideas to get this working

.ive checked them all out and about 90% of them are working great and looking nice  ,for some reason there is 10% that are not displaying on the screen .i used the exact same moviesheet template for every file

does anyone have any ideas why some arent displaying ? , im using sheet mode  extreme_mixed black

oh big thank you to thumbgen and everyone who tried to help me out

Take down the name of the one that are not working.
And FTP into the WDTVLive... go to the /msheets folder
Look for the files names that you took note of.

If you find the file in /msheets look to where it points to... and make sure it does exists and is pointing to the correct sheet
And if all seams ok... try reducing the file size of the sheet.

If file is not there, then "linksheets" might have missed it
could be something wrong with the name... double check that

can someone answer this too please , when i first created a moviesheet ( sheetmode  ) and tried it out for the first time after i followed thumbgens instructions ,i created about 10 moviesheets for 10 movies just to try it out .
when i seen it had worked i deleted the moviesheet file in each of the 10 folders and made up the ones im using now .

does the wdtv live box cache the older moviesheets because when i go into movies, then all movies folder my new moviesheets appear .if i go down into folders ,then my movie folder it shows up the very first moviesheets i created .
is there someway to delete these ?

god i hope that makes sense  ;)

3:blood diamond.jpg
4:folder.jpg
5:blood diamond.m2ts.tgmd
6:nfo.file

i changed the settings in the thumbgen program as you stated in another post to
main    $M\$N$E_sheet.sheet
extra    $M\$F_sheet

i have done 50 moviesheets in total and 10 of them wont display ,ive even taken the power right out of the back of the wdtvlive and powered it back up and still the same

10. Modify the  S00custom-options file on the thumbdrive by adding the following lines of code to the end of the file:
config_tool -c SHOW_FILESIZE_SETTING=0
config_tool -c MSHEETMODE=sheet
config_tool -c VIDMSHEET=ON
config_tool -c GENMSHEET=ON
config_tool -c LISTMSHEET=ON

This may be a dumb question, but I don't want to f-up my player.  I have no, zero, zip, etc... experience with writing code.  I read thru the 3 pages of comments, and didn't find an answer, so here goes:

when I "add" these lines to the file (using notepad), I noticed that all the other "lines" contain the "#" symbol in front of them, some have two number signs (ex. ## codepage packages (default cp437))

Do I need to add the # sign in front of these lines?  Do I put one, two or zero in front of each.  Also, do I put a blank line between the last line and the line I'm adding?

which is correct?:
config_tool -c VIDMSHEET=ON
#config_tool -c VIDMSHEET=ON

I know, dumb question.

Also, I have the Live media player, but I am not connected to any internet.  Do I need to change any step?  I noticed one person said "yes", but I really didn't understand any of the explanation, so IDK.

Thanks.

Iso , I asked the same question. You need the lines without the number sign as it is what specifies to the player the options used.

Hi there. I used to have a WDTV with WDLXTV and MSheets and had it all working great with a USB ExtHDD. I use WDTV MSG 1.6.3 as my MSheet Generator. The structure of the HDD would be...
D://Movies/Accepted/
Accepted.avi
backgrop.jpeg
cover.jpeg
folder.jpeg
Movie_Info.xml
wd_tv.jpeg

I now have a WDTV LIVE with the new ultimate live WDLXTV firmware that has MSheets built it. To install the firmware I simply but the .bin and .ver files onto the root of a USB stick and booted the WDTV Live with the USB stick plugged in. Whilst the firmware did install correctly, I do not seem to be getting any MSheets when I click on a movie folder, it simply displays the file, as if MSheets has not been activiated/installed.

Please advise!
Thanks in advance,

Mike

dude i have been trying to get this working for months. i dont get it. as far as i can tell i have followed it all to the t. i have gotten to the point of having the movie thumbs at the bottom of the screen. done all the settings. created the sheets with no luck. i made the thumbgen filesize 250 kb, i made sure to turn off show file size in the settings.  i have set thumbgen to name the sheet the correct way. what is it im doing wrong here? do the movies have to be all in one folder? i will never have movie sheets if that is the case. my movies are seperated by genere folders and each movie has its own folder. trilogys have a single folder with 3 movies each with there own folder. inside the movie folder i have folder.jpg
                 iron man.mkv
                 iron man.tgmd
                 iron man.mkv_sheet.jpg
along with the nfo file. im just dumbfounded that this does not work. its set to sheet mode in the custom options the files are named right. can someone help me? obviously i have read the whole thread.

first... which WDTV do you have, and what firmware are you running...

Then , what does you TV screen looks like when you are browsing the videos...

finaly... make sure you comprehend the difference between thumbnails and sheets....
thumbnails are the small picture the WDTV will show... folder.jpg or moviename.jpg, are the folder and movie thumbnails.
as foir the sheet its the big picture, either in the background or foreground (depends on sheet mode you are using)...
moviename.ext_sheet.jpg is the picture that displays when the movie is selected
foldername_sheet.jpg is the picture that will show when the folder is selected

ash for the .nfo file, if you do not explicitly need it for something, you don't need to generate it since all the movie info is saved inside the .TGMD.
the TGMD file contains all the original pictures and info that was selected when the file was generated, so its a good idea to have it. It comes very handy when you want to change sheet templates..

hi thanks for the help! i have wdtv gen2. i am running wdlxtv 0.4.5.3 the latest version. on screen i am showing 7 thumbnails across the bottom of the screen. the background is black with nothing else there. lol yeah i fully understand the difference between a thumbnail and a moviesheet. my thumbs are named folder.jpg. i have the folder name and the movie name the same.or iron man=folder name. and iron man=movie name. when i go into the movie folder the movie shows in the bottom left corner of the screen with nothing else on the screen all black. in thumbgen options i have main moviesheet set to-wdlxtv-live generic dynamic sheet/all modes(<moviename.ext>_sheet.jpg)
i have the movie sheet saved in the same folder as the movie. the sheet is named (iron man.mkv_sheet.jpg) its size is 1280x720.=240kb
here is a copy of my soo options.
## Movie sheet modes (only one can be enabled at a time)
## unless you have sheets for each mode you will encounter oddities switching around modes
## AKA this isn't magic
##   Full screen std mode:
#config_tool -c MSHEETMODE=std
##   1280x460 (horizontal banner at top) sheet mode:
config_tool -c MSHEETMODE=sheet
##   500x720 (vertical banner on right) wall mode:
#config_tool -c MSHEETMODE=wall

## turn on moviesheets for a list type  (ON/OFF)
## you must turn it on for a view type to see sheets!
##   video thumb mode
config_tool -c VIDMSHEET=ON
##   audio/photo thumb mode
config_tool -c GENMSHEET=ON
##   list mode (video/audio/photo)
config_tool -c LISTMSHEET=ON

i also have the custom background and screensaver working with my own background and screensaver.
i have also made sure to use a sheet mode template in thumbgen.
im sure i am missing one small step somewhere but i have read every moviesheet tutorial i can find and beat my brain up trying to figure this out. i am going to visit a friend next week who is a movie fanatic but hates computers and still collects hundreds of dvds he has a shelf the size of my car full of dvds.lol so i would like to get the moviesheets working so as to impress him and convert him over to the digital storage world. i have waited months for b-rad to put out a g2 firmware that had everything working with dts and and moviesheets and all that stuff. now it is finally here and i still cant get the moviesheets working. i dont know what other info you need about my setup but i will be glad to post whatever you need to know if you can help. thanks a million.

one thing that has peeked my curiosity is that after posting the reply above i noticed that in the soo options it clearly says above config_tool-c MSHEETMODE=sheet that the size is 1280x460 i have been lead to beleive that the sheet must be 1280x720 and that is the size that thumbgen makes them. this must be my problem right? how do i set thumbgen to make them 1280x460?

ok that did not work either after resizing the sheet to 1280x460 nothing happened im still stuck. also i dont know if it matters but i had thumbmode set to 10 thumbs if that matters. thanks!

K thats for the info...

do you have a "LINSHEETS=ON" somewhere in the S00 file ?
if not add it...

as the for the size, 1280x460 is the size of the image wihout going behing the row of 7 thumbnails...
but if you want a true fill screen, you can use 1280x720

Also in the WDTV  you can view the files in "List" Thumb" or "Preview"... make sure you are not  in "Preview" since sheet does not work in that view type... (Since you see a black screen with 7 thumbs at the bottom, I'm guessing you already are in "thumb" view)

In the WDTV Settings, make sure that "Show File Size" option is set to "No" or "Off"

and for the file names you are give your sheets,  moviename.ext_sheet.jpg, remember that this will only show up when the movie is selected... not the folder... to keep your "Iron Man" as an example
Iron Man_sheet.jpg  --> would be the sheet that would display when the folder is selected
Iron Man.mkv_sheet.jpg --> the sheet for the movie itself.

And remember that the OS in the WDTV is case sensitive....

buhric you are a beautiful beautiful man lol.... it WORKS! thankyou thankyou thankyou. i believe it was the config_tool -c LINKSHEETS=ON   that was left out of my soo options. after adding that and creating sheets for both folder and movie.ext it all works. for those of getting stuck make sure to add the linksheet config to your soo options. you made my day buhric thanks man. ;D

I've asked this elsewhere but never got a definative answer.... other then being "cleaner" for maintenance, is there any benefit from having every movie in it's own folder?

Hi,I'm new to getting this to work, but I believe I've done everything correctly so far and I ran across a problem I haven't seen posted yet and I've spent all day reading.

I've installed B-rad's 1.03.49, flashed the S00 file correctly and I still have this issue.  My media player starts off fine then on the first screen I click Videos, the next screen I click Local Drives and then anything on this screen will cause the screen to go completely blank and nothing happens....for a long long time.  This happens whether I click Folders, Recent, etc.

I've tried re-installing B-rad's and it even did it prior to putting on the changes from the S00 file.

Please Help....

***EDIT***

I figured out by reseting to factory settings and changing the S00 file to not include LINKSHEETS, I prevented the blank screen.  So in my S00 file I have the following running:

config_tool -c MSHEETMODE=sheet
config_tool -c VIDMSHEET=ON
config_tool -c GENMSHEET=ON
config_tool -c LISTMSHEET=ON

Now I see the thumbnails along the bottom, but the movie sheet doesn't show up on top..it is blank.  Here is how I have my files on my HDD configured:

/Movies (one folder that contains all my movies)
/Avatar.iso
/Avatar.jpg
/Avatar.MSNF
/Avatar.iso_sheet.jpg

Help...

well you need the "config_tool -c LINKSHEETS=ON" in your S00custom-option file
that is whats telling the WDTV to run the "linksheets" script and making your sheets work..
whitout it, you will never see a sheet...

And make sure the power LED on the WDTV is NOT flahing before trying to access you videos...
While its flashing it mean that the WDTV is linking your sheets...
Title: Re: How I got moviesheets to work [Guide]
Post by: Rmiskid4 on January 16, 2011, 09:13:53 AM
This did not work.  I changed the S00 file to include
config_tool -c LINKSHEETS=ON
Does it matter where in the S00 file I put it?  I put it right after:
config_tool -c LISTMSHEET=ON

I then plugged it into the WDTV, rebooted, waited a half hour (maybe longer), until everything stopped blinking. Then once I went to Video/Local Drives/Folders - the screen went blank.  I then left it on for another half hour to see if it would come to life...nothing.

When I rebooted the flash with the new S00 file, I had my HD with my movies plugged in as well.  Would that matter?

Also, are there any issues since my WDTV is not connected to the internet...I don't need it on the internet for anything.  I just want to see my movie sheets.

Thanks for your help.

after you select the Folders, and the screen goes black...
are you able to back out to the main menu.. or is the WDTV stuck there?
Title: Re: How I got moviesheets to work [Guide]
Post by: Rmiskid4 on January 16, 2011, 12:30:39 PM
I'm stuck there.  Only way to get out is to re-boot.
Title: Re: How I got moviesheets to work [Guide]
Post by: Buhric on January 16, 2011, 05:07:43 PM
then the WDTV seems to freeze up... an the only change is the "LINKSHEETS=ON" option in S00custom-option

just by curiosity... how many movies / sheets do you have ?

you either have to many sheets that the WDTV runs out of spac when creating the symbolic links to the sheets...
or theres a bug in the script itself...

Personaly I have about 1500 sheets... and it still works fine....
except for something I suspect is a bug in 1.03.49_V_WDLXTV.COM_EXT3-BOOT_LIVE-0.4.5.3
sheets does not show up in std mode,

But then again.... I use the Root.bin version (non-flash) thus I think I'm not limited to the onboard memory of the WDTV
but rather to the space on my .bin file...

could be that since the onboard memory is limited... you can not have has many links to the sheets... thus making your WDTV crash....

REMEMBER THAT THIS  IS ALL SPECULATION ON MY PART... I MAY BE TOTALY WRONG ON THIS....
a good way to test would for you to download the non-flash version, put only the ROOT.BIN file in the root of a USB drive
and power cycle the WDTV... since you already have a flashed version installed, it should boot directly from the ROOT.BIN...
If it starts working.. then I might be right... if you still have the same problem... then theres something else going on...

I will try doing the non-flash version tomorrow.  Right now I only have about 75 movies, but I've only created 1 sheet to test.  So it is not a lot.

I'll let you know how the non-flash version works.

Would you suggest maybe going back to version 1.02.21?
Title: Re: How I got moviesheets to work [Guide]
Post by: Buhric on January 17, 2011, 03:43:04 AM
i personaly have 1.02.21 flashed on my 2 WDTV,

Downside of that version is that you do not have DVD menu Navigation support....
1.03.49 as no WDTVExt....

I prefer having WDTVExt over DVD menus....

I installed 1.02.21 version on Brad's firmware and everything works great! Originally it would do the "scanning attached usb device" FOREVER, so I disabled the Media Library option and it stopped.

What does that option do exactly?

Thanks for your help Buhric!
Title: Re: How I got moviesheets to work [Guide]
Post by: Buhric on January 17, 2011, 03:51:24 PM
it scans the USB so that videos are available from the "date" or "All movie" section
and if it was taking that long do to it... its possible that your USB has some "bad" files
from your PC, run a chkdsk on it, and do a search for folders named ".wd_tv" (might be hidden) and delete all found...

Hi all

I'm a newbie in WDLXTV and I'm trying to let the Moviesheet work.

I have a this background:
WD TV Live connected via Wifi to my network, Fritz 7141 as modem/route, Synology DS410J as NAS sharing via SAMBA and NFS.
FW Base: 1.03.49 version 0.4.5.3

Just read that with my fw I need to use Linksheets mode to use MovieSheet.
So I created a test dir which I mounted with inside one movie per folder (with folder name as file name).
I choose Video->Multimedia Server->NAS->Video->All Folders but then I in the background the movie sheet template, but in the foreground all the list (or thumbnails, dependig on what I chose on the WDTV as Browsing method).
How can I get rid of the foreground stuff and just move from one movie sheet to another?

What I am missing?

Thanks
Vittorio

Most probably you are in "sheet" mode (MSHEETMODE=sheet)
set the MSHEETMODE to std (standard) to get rid of all the items in the foreground

but small problem.... std mode is broken in 0.4.5.3 based on v1.02.21... I did not test with firmware based on 1.03.49...
But suspect that problem is also present

[SOLVED]
I did a "clean" reinstall, meaning that I did a "rm *" in the /conf dir on the WD TV Live.
Then I reinstalled first the original FW and after the 1.02.21_0.4.5.3.
Probably there was something wrong in one of the files in the /conf dir.
When I first deleted ALL the files, the first boot was terrible.
After the WD logo, silence. 2-3 mins with "No Signal" on TV....
Help... I destroyed my baby.
After 1 more minute, everything went fine. Probably the creation of all the files missing was longer than expected.

So now everything seems to work.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi.

I'm getting crazy on this.
My actual situation is:
Device: WDLXTV_LIVE
FW Version:10.02.21
Current version: 0.4.5.3

These are some of my settings in the config file
SHOW_FILESIZE_SETTING='0'
MSHEETMODE='sheet'
VIDMSHEET='ON'
GENMSHEET='ON'
LISTMSHEET='ON'
MSHEETDIR=''
LINKSHEETS='OFF'
DEFAULTSHEET=''
MOVIESHEET_HIDE_TITLE='OFF'
WDTVEXT='ON'
MOVIESHEET_FORCE_STD='OFF'

This is the structure of my movie folder, sitting on a NAS, each movie is located in a separate folder with the same name:

W:\Alice.in.Wonderland.2010>dir
Volume in drive W is video
 Volume Serial Number is 0D20-04EC

 Directory of W:\Alice.in.Wonderland.2010

12/02/2011  23:43    <DIR>          .
12/02/2011  23:50    <DIR>          ..
12/02/2011  23:42            51.742 Alice.in.Wonderland.2010.jpg
12/02/2011  22:06           224.890 Alice.in.Wonderland.2010_sheet.jpg
12/02/2011  22:06           224.890 Alice.in.Wonderland.2010.avi_sheet.std.jpg
12/09/2010  20:50       739.147.254 Alice.in.Wonderland.2010.avi
12/02/2011  22:43           215.183 Alice.in.Wonderland.2010.avi_sheet.sheet.jpg

12/02/2011  23:43         2.759.990 Alice.in.Wonderland.2010.avi.tgmd
12/02/2011  23:42            51.742 folder.jpg
12/02/2011  18:59           181.262 Alice.in.Wonderland.2010.avi_sheet.jpg

Then I access the movie folder via Network access.

I can see the thmbnail pictures for each movie in the Sheet mode, but I don't see in the background the moviesheet.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks
Vittorio
