Title: REQ v1.02.07 Option of thumbnail view or list view for individual folders
Post by: itzmurda on April 23, 2009, 07:34:56 PM
Hello,

Up until now I had been using my Xbox 360 to play all of my media. But when I saw HD added thumbnail support, where you could browse by covers, I had to make the purchase. My only hopes for the future firmware are:

1) Under "videos" I would like the outer folders to be in thumbnail view (movie covers), but I would like the inner files to be in list view. This would be perfect and hopefully this could happen in the future.

For instance, in my movie folder:

Duckman - Seasons One & Two (thumbnail view with the DVD cover displayed)

click on that and everything on the inside would be in list view:

S01E01 I Duckman
S01E02 TV or Not to Be
S01E03 Gripes of Wrath
etc.

I see no reason why I would need a thumbnail for each of those different episodes, so for that to be in list view would be better for me, as well as being easier to navigate to the many different episodes.

2) As far as music, when I click on each mp3, I would like the picture to be the same picture as in the root folder and the mp3 itself (the album cover). Once again, I would have the album covers in thumbnail view, but the actual songs in list view. Then when I click on the track, it would be the album cover. I have alot of albums, and I would hate to have to have a pic of the album cover for every song on the album.

Like so:

Artist - Album name (Thumbnail view of album cover)

Inside would be in list view:

Track1.mp3
Track2.mp3
Track3.mp3

Then when I click on track 1 it takes me to the screen in which the song is listed along with the album cover.

---

If these options are already available and I'm doing something wrong, please let me know. But as far as I know, these are valid requests.

Thanks for reading and HP, thanks for the wonderful product!

Love the idea of thumbnail folders having list view contents  ;)

Will work fine with a folder containing TV shows, but some might still want thumbnail contents turned on for a folder called Movies. It would be nice to set a preference for each folder.

I second that idea! (Actually I first it! I wrote a post about the same thing yesterday!)

I agree with everything you said! It makes no sense having a load of blank folders or folders with the same album cover when a list would be much more useful because it would be easier to navigate through and would look tidier.

A while ago I suggested somekind of an optional "hybrid" view mode.

Means that files with associated thumbnails are shown as thumbs and files without thumbnails are just shown in a list.

First the tumbnails in alphabetical order, after that the list in alphabetical order.

What do you guys think?

The problem with the hybrid idea is that some files have the artwork embedded in them, so you might end up with a mix of the 2 whether you like it or not. Or end up with an album folder full of the same thumbnails of the album cover which is what's happening now.

I want to have the choice of either list or thumbnail view for individual folders.
