Title: Homebrew Database (overview of all modifications)
Post by: reaverxai on June 22, 2009, 06:44:53 PM
With an expanding number of the modification files available for use with the WDTV, I thought I would start to try and index them, so here you are, a WDTV Custom Firmware Database, which I will try to keep as up to date as possible.

Note: I do not make any claims that these are completely up to date. I will try to keep this as updated as possible, but checking the source site is the easiest way to make sure you have the latest version.

ext3-boot writes a modified boot manager to the WDTV. During bootup this will read the main (custom) firmware file from a connected memory stick or disk. As such, it doesn't have the memory limitations of permanently flashed firmware, and contains more add-on packages included in the release. You need to keep the storage with the firmware file permanently inserted in the WDTV though (to be confirmed - at least you need it inserted on every reboot). Most upgrades can be done by updating the firmware file on external storage, without needing to re-flash the WDTV.

I am still torn between Ext3-boot and WDLXTV (what would you recommend)

I would like to run the LaurentG app, and the shoutcast app seems pretty cool too; would both apps work on either firmware?

Excellent work. Stick it !

just a note: weecommand is in version 'Prototype 3'

an other suggestion: It will be more usefull if you divide 'stand-alone' application, from 'dipendent' application: for example, like weather/rss addon which is depending from any webserver, and  appletrailerfs and weecommand, depending from event-osd

Also is mandatory to warn users for mod firmware compatiblity: LaurentG osd mod work only with wldxtv, weccomand works only with ext3

Yes, this post needs a sticky.

Please update this: the osdMod firmware version is on v0.3, this is correct, but osdMod app.bin version is on v0.4.0.5. It has the features of v0.3 and allows to view also the movie data before playing.

This gives instant access to 1138 packages and turns the wdtv into a fully loaded machine. Most importantly it gives us instant access to extra tools to do even more to the little thing now.

Maybe we should move this to the wiki at http://wiki.wdtv.org/doku.php, there its easier to edit and not dependent on any one person.

Update needed regarding latest version for:
# WDLXTV 0.5.6.1
# Appletrailerfs 0.3.3.1

Also adding these would be helpfull:
# Weather & RSS - Webserver addons v0.2

# YouTube
creator: elmarweber

# Shoutcast

Hope to get update:
I hope that a new version will come for the shoutcast application because I can't seem to get the stations played. I see the station names under the categories however I can't open the stations because the filetype is not supported.

I'm having a problem to identify the FW that applies to my player.

in the web-front-end my player is identified like this:

Device: WDLXTV_LIVE
FW Base: 1.05.04
Current version: 0.5.1.1

looking at the post I believe what is called "current version" should rather be called "current FW version", correct?

so in the post I can see FWs newer than 0.5.1.1, however I can't find any FW Base-info, so I wonder if version 0.5.3.2 works for me.

it looks like as if my player can't cope with the recent mp4-files. it either locks up requiring a power OFF/ON cycle or jumps scenes etc. I came across a post that says that this problem was solved with a FW upgrade, however lacking the details of such upgrade.

Device: WDLXTV_LIVE
FW Base: 1.05.04
Current version: 0.5.1.1
You are showing firmware for Live or Live plus but you are asking if a firmware dated back to 09 is more current then what you have now...The live didn't yet exist in 09.  What you are comparing to now is the firmware for the Gen1 1.02.07 WDLXTV 0.5.3.2
So, no, it is not newer.  That machine is no longer supported by WD and not sure if B-rad still supports it.

IF you have a live you have 2 choices.  1.05.04 WDLXTV 0.5.1.1 or 1.02.21 WDLXTV 0.5.1.1.....both have the newest version of WDLXTV for the Base firmware you wish to use.
