Title: Occasional Failure to Play Movie
Post by: Mr.Natural on January 12, 2015, 07:10:44 AM
I'm almost always able to stream successfully from my PC to my WDTV Live, but recently encountered an instance where the movie (.mp4) appeared in the menu, displayed the proper thumbnail, but when selected, after a pause of several seconds, just returned to the main menu.  Might this be due to a digital watermark embedded in the video?  If so, is there a way to circumvent it (custom firmware, maybe)?

Thanks, Techflaws.  I got temporarily overtaken by events, but I'll give your link a shot and report my results.

I was hesitant to roll back my unit's firmware.  While it would (hopefully) solve the issue with the failure to play some *.mp4 files, it'd also undo any other fixes or improvements (assuming there were any) that came with the latest firmware.  So I tried converting the failing videos to another format.  I tried both AVC-free and Movavi to convert to *.mkv.  Both  produced playable results.  I would imagine that converting to other formats would work as well, but I decided not to make a career out of investigating this.
