Title: Surround sound system
Post by: biggest_kid on August 10, 2014, 11:55:33 PM
Hey guys,

Just posting to ask a few questions. I'm looking at purchasing a surround sound system for a very small college room, and because I'm at uni, really cant be spending a lot of money on this. Now im no audiophile, so a cheap system should suit me fine. Also we have noise restrictions at college, so I cant have a system that is too powerful anyway. As such, I was looking at purchasing something along the lines of these Logitech speakers. (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Logitech-Z506-5-1-Surround-sound-speakers-Free-Delivery-/111423699017?pt=AU_Laptop_Accessories&hash=item19f15eb849)

So at the moment I have my WDTV Live connect to my tv via a HDMI cable. I was wondering, would I be able to connect these speakers straight to my tv for surround sound? Or would I have to connect the sub to the WDTV Live via an optical cable for surround sound to work? Also how can I tell if a movie has surround sound? I was reading something about WDTV not supporting AAC or something?

Thought I'd ask these questions before I spent any money. I know this $70 system wont be much, but it will be enough for a small college room occupied by a non-audiophile.
