Title: My pack enhancing OSD
Post by: LaurentG on June 07, 2009, 10:20:04 AM
WDLXTV Application Pack
LaurentG.app.bin
Version 1.3.2

Download (http://lg.hc.free.fr/WDTVHD/download/LaurentG.app.v1.3.2.zip)

Here are the enhancements included in this application pack:
- new video thumbmail views using ratio 3/4 instead of 2/3 for thumbmails + menus to choose the configuration,
- new view displaying the movie sheet previously generated for example with the softwares Movie GUI Builder or TViXiE,
- access to the network shares even when the media library is off,
- correction of the French translation.

Installation

Warning: this application pack requires first the installation of an alternative firmware, either WDLXTV or ext3-boot.

If you had an old version of this application pack, please suppress all the old files from your USB pendrive (or USB hard drive) connected to the WD TVHD. Then unzip the new ZIP file at the same place and reboot.
Warning: you must not have at the same place other app.bin files with a name starting by "LaurentG".

Changelog

Version 1.3.2
- fixed: compatibility with the firmware WDLXTV 0.5.5
- changed: the features included in the firmware WDLXTV version 0.5.5 are now disabled by default. It is still possible for users with firmware ext3-boot or old WDLXTV to enable them setting the parameters ENABLE_OSD et ENABLE_AUTOMOUNT to 1 in the main configuration file
- changed: parameter DISABLE_OSD renamed ENABLE_OSD
- changed: parameter DISABLE_AUTOMOUNT renamed ENABLE_AUTOMOUNT
- changed: the custom parameters for each view are now in separate files from the main configuration file and in a sub-folder named "LaurentG_templates"
- new: for the additional information overriding the movie sheet, new parameter ADDITIONAL_INFO_TYPE added in the main configuration file to choose between a text file and a picture file. The files "additional_text.conf.txt" and "additional_picture.conf.txt" allows to customize the display of these data.

Version 1.3.1
- fixed: movie sheets were not displayed with version 1.3 when DISABLE_OSD was set to 1
- fixed: list width within the movie sheet extended view in list mode

Version 1.3
- new: fully compatible with ext3-boot firmware
- new: feature to keep the movie sheet of one folder even if then you enter in a sub-folder and display a new movie sheet (movie sheet at several tree levels). It can only work for two levels, for example one level per genre plus a sub-level per movie. The parameter MULTIPLE_SHEETS added in the configuration file can enable this new feature.
- new: feature to have two different views for the display of a movie sheet, each triggered by a different file. The first view is the one included in the previous versions; the new one allows to override the movie sheet with the content of the folder, either with a table of 6 little thumbmails or with a list of 3 file names. The parameter GGER_FILE2, MOVIE_SHEET_VIEW and MOVIE_SHEET_VIEW2 added in the configuration file allow to manage this new feature.
- new: feature to automatically include in the view displaying the movie sheet the content of an OSD file (XML) that would be present in the movie folder. The parameter INCLUDE_OSD_FILE added in the configuration file allows to define the file name to include.
- new: feature to automatically include in the view displaying the movie sheet the content of a text file that would be present in the movie folder. The text overrides the sheet at a location and with characteristics controlled with several parameters in the configuration file. The parameter ADDITIONAL_INFO_FILE added in the configuration file allows to define the file name to display.

Version 1.2
- new: access to the folder "OSD Settings" even when parameter DISABLE_OSD is set to 1 (only if the OSD offer several possible configurations)
- new: parameter DISABLE_OSD_SETTINGS_FOLDER added in the configuration file to not display the folder "OSD Settings"
- fixed: display of the movie sheet even if one of the folders leading to the movie file contains special characters
- fixed: management of the FRAME_FILE parameter
- fixed: THUMBNUM and LISTNUM changes are again taken into account when one osd.bin is loaded (for example farscape.osd.bin) and DISABLE_OSD is set to 1
- fixed: compatibility with other OSD themes

Version 1.1
- new configuration file modifiable by the user,
- possibility to disable, using the configuration file, certain features of this application pack,
- possibility to customize, using the configuration file, the placement and looking of elements overriding the movie sheet.

New video thumbmail views using ratio 3/4 for thumbmails

Four new views configurations are provided:
- 3 lines of 7 video thumbs, each thumb having resolution 120x160
- 2 lines of 6 video thumbs, each thumb having resolution 150x200
- 2 lines of 5 video thumbs, each thumb having resolution 180x240
- 1 line of 4 video thumbs, each thumb having resolution 225x300
Of course, the configurations provided with the WDLXTV firmware are still available.

The easiest way is to choose the configuration directly in the menus of the WD TVHD. You have to enter in the video folders then choose "OSD Settings" then "Thumbmail resolution in video thumbmail mode" and finally select the resolution.
For people who prefer using the command line, you have to run one of the following commands:
config_tool -c THUMBRESO="120x160"
config_tool -c THUMBRESO="150x200"
config_tool -c THUMBRESO="180x240"
config_tool -c THUMBRESO="225x300"
config_tool -c THUMBRESO="120x180"
config_tool -c THUMBRESO="163x245"
config_tool -c THUMBRESO="240x360"
The command can be run from a telnet session or can be included in the file "S00custom-options" placed at the root of the USB pendrive or the hard drive connected to the WD TVHD.

The choice of configuration is kept even when the power is unplugged. So it will not be necessary to select again the configuration after each boot.

New view displaying the movie sheet

To use this view mode, it is necessary to create a particular file tree on your hard drive. For each movie, you have to create a folder named with the title of the movie and containing at least:
- the file "wd_tv.jpg", the movie form,
- the video file, whatever its name.
The folder can contain other files:
- the file "folder.jpg", the movie poster,
- the file "wd_tv.txt", a file containing additional data to display,
- the file "wd_tv_osd.xml", an additional OSD file to include in the view.
Softwares like Movie GUI Builder or TViXiE allow creating easily the movie sheets, getting the main data from internet and let you designing the templates. You have just to configure them to generate a JPEG file in resolution 1280x720.

From the menus of the WD TVHD, as soon as you enter in a folder of this kind, the movie sheet appears in background and the name of the first video file contained in this folder is displayed at bottom of the screen. If the folder contains several video files, the top and bottom remote keys allow navigating through the files.

Configuration file

The file "LaurentG.conf.txt" is documented. It contains comments (lines beginning with #) and data (lines with "parameter=value").
Please read the file to check what you can do.

Compatibility with the other app.bin and osd.bin

This application pack is compatible with all the OSD themes provided as a file osd.bin. It is necessary to set the parameter DISABLE_OSD to 1 in the configuration file. Verified themes: farscape.osd.bin and lilibabe.osd.bin.
This application pack is compatible with the OSD themes provided as a file app.bin if they are built as explained (method #2) on the b-rad WEB site ( http://b-rad.cc/877/wdtv-osd-how-to-make-a-custom-theme ). It is necessary to set the parameter DISABLE_OSD to 1 in the configuration file. Verified theme: farscape.app.bin.
This application pack is not compatible with juliojs's application pack osdMod.app.bin in version 0.4.0.5.

Thanks

Special thanks to elmarweber and rezmus as several elements of this pack are coming from or rely on their components, like for example event-osd.

Known problems

- compatibility with juliojs's application pack osdMod.app.bin in version 0.4.0.5
- the display of text contained in the file "wd_tv.txt" is not correct if it contains special characters.
- eject of the USB drive can fail and lock the WD TVHD if a movie sheet was consulted during browsing.

Something that could be interesting for other developpers is the way I create new menus.

No because I use and replace a script list.watch launched at boot and specific to WDLXTV firmware (added in one of the latest 0.5.3.x versions).

Note that, with my mod, the look of the form does not depend on the mod. It is defined by user outside the mod. Everybody is free to define and generate the form (a JPEG file) he wants.
Movie GUI Builder is a good software to do add. It would be even better if french web site Allocine would be better supported. ;-)

Hmmm... did everything as explained...but it wont work... :'(
unpacked your files to usb stick, use wdlxtv 0.5.3.2, wd_tv.jpg and folder.jpg in the movie folder, everything looks like the usual wdlxtv, list view or thumb makes no difference, lib on or lib off also...

Please check the event-osd log file to verify if my script is really run.

Are you sure you have the correct file tree ?
For example, for the movie Heat, you must have a directory named "Heat" (or something else - not important) containing at least two files:
- the file "wd_tv.jpg"
- the movie file, for example "heat.mkv"

Please check the event-osd log file to verify if my script is really run.

Ok, will check that when Im back home this evening.

Are you sure you have the correct file tree ?

I think so..

I have several Folders in the root of my HDD, "movies", "musik", "photos"...
In the folder "movies" I have subfolders like "movie1" or "movie2" for example.
In the folder "movie1" I have a movie file "movie1.avi", and the jpegs "wd_tv.jpg" and "folder.jpg", both createt by movie GUI builder.

Think theres no issue with that...

I will also try another usb stick this evening and also a film folder on usb stick, perhaps my ndas configuration produces a conflict with the app.bin...?!

We will see...

not a program, but a workaround solution:
- use moviejukebox (http://code.google.com/p/moviejukebox/) to generate HTML index for all your movies (the HTML files look like this (http://code.google.com/p/moviejukebox/wiki/MovieJukebox))
- use a program to convert the HTML pages to jpgs (e.g. http://www.html2jpg.com/)

Back home I reformatted my 4GB USB Stick with Panas SD formatter. Now your app works. And now I can use my NDAS without medialibrary activatet, very very very cool...!!! :D

Thank you and best regards

*edit* I really like your app, but I really liked brads farscape.osd.bin with red/black/white menu colours and changeable welcome_background_bg.jpg too...

But when using yours I only get blue menu and wooden blue bg... :-X

Would there probably be any chance to make both compatible? Or change the colours in your app? That would be more than fantastic... ;D

I hope this feature (just one little script to run) could be included in next version of b-rad firmware.
I don't know if Zorander's firmware has or not this feature.
Maybe my script could be optimised to take less CPU as possible.

I was reported of incompatibility between my app and some osd.bin. My current idea is to make a new version that will disable my screens (only the ones with different thumbmail resolution) if I see that another OSD replaces the default one. It will automatically disable one feature of my app.

Looks very nice! I may have a look at how you manage the background switching as I am battling to get it work myself ^^ It seems the osd caching behaves weirdly. I tried symlinks, copy, randomly named backgrounds etc. So far, no trick gives satisfying result. At some point, osd loses track of the backgrounds and I end up having black background. Only when I play and stop the movie I get back the correct backgroun  :o

I want to add functionality to your OSD settings menu.. I figured it out

You can create sub-folders (mkdir) and attach action to your sub-folders by triggering a script using event-osd. To display a new screen, first your folder must contain at least one video file and then your script must substitute the regular file(s) by your own XML file(s).

WDLXTV Application Pack
LaurentG.app.bin version 1.1
Download (http://lg.hc.free.fr/WDTVHD/download/LaurentG.app.v1.1.zip)

Here are the enhancements included in this application pack:
- new video thumbmail views using ratio 3/4 instead of 2/3 for thumbmails + menus to choose the configuration,
- new view displaying the movie sheet previously generated for example with the softwares Movie GUI Builder or TViXiE,
- access to the network shares even when the media library is off,
- correction of the French translation.

Installation

Warning: this application pack requires the WDLXTV firmware version 0.5.3.2.

Unzip the ZIP file at the root of your USB key or USB hard drive connected to the WD TVHD, and then reboot.
Warning: you must not have at the same place other app.bin files with a name starting by "LaurentG".

Changelog

The command can be run from a telnet session or can be included in the file "S00custom-options" placed at the root of the USB key or the hard drive connected to the WD TVHD.

The choice of configuration is kept even when the power is unplugged. So it will not be necessary to select again the configuration after each boot.

New view displaying the movie sheet

To use this view mode, it is necessary to create a particular file tree on your hard drive. For each movie, you have to create a folder named with the title of the movie and containing:
- the file "folder.jpg", the movie poster,
- the file "wd_tv.jpg", the movie form,
- the video file, whatever its name.

Known bugs

- the movie sheet is not displayed if the one of the folders leading to the movie file contains in its name a special character.

Great work! ;D

For me it is almost perfect...! I tried it with your osd disabled and b-rads farscape.osd.bin and it works. Nice own bg and red coloured menu. I use a S00Custom-Options file for further settings. But one thing wont work with that: I always get 12 thumbs, even when theyre configurated by S00Custom-Options like: config_tool -c THUMBNUM=8 or config_tool -c THUMBRESO="180x240"

Any idea on that?

Thanks and best regards... :)

When you disable OSD, you disable this feature.

With b-rad WDLXTV firmware and farscape.osd.bin OSD, meaning without my app.bin, are you able to change THUMBNUM/LISTNUM whith good result and looking ?

The problem is that I cannot be sure that files added by b-rad for this feature (switch THUMBNUM/LISTNUM) will be included in all already existing osd.bin.
I think I will make a new change to keep the default WDLXTV behaviour if I see that all files are present in /osd. That could be ok with farscape.osd.bin for example. By the way, you will not have my new THUMBRESO switch and no OSD menus, only THUMBNUM/LISTNUM switch with config_tool command.

I will work on that for the next release.

And I could probably keep at least parts of OSD menus as no modified XML files are involved.

Can you post a link to the original version until its fixed, I deleted it. Thanks!

Very strange. I use samba and it works perfectly at home.
My changes between the two versions are in fact relatively minor and I have difficulty to understand how it could break ... other app.bin :o
Does Disco's web server modify OSD ?

Hey, great work - Thanks!

I installed your pack and it looks great, I do have 2 minor issues:

1.
After rebooting the WDTV, everything works great. My chosen thumbnails view and the movie sheet. If I turn off the WDTV, unplug the HD, re-plug the HD and turn on the WDTV, the thumbs view stays but the movie sheet is gone. I have to do a full reboot to make it work again.
Is that supposed to work like that?

2.
Is there a way to remove the OSD Settings "folder" after having the desired thumbs configuration?
The main reason I use the thumbs and movie sheet is to make the WDTV accessible to my kid (browse by pictures). I wouldn't want her to stumble into the OSD settings and change stuff...

Thanks again!

I hope my "colour-thing" is not annoying to you, perhaps there is another way to get rid of anything "blue", a way I did not recognize yet...? 8) :D

Youre right, that THUMBRESO switch "on the fly" and OSD menus are very cool features too, that Id better not miss in the future... :)

Hi Sumo.

I have done some changes and now my app works perfectly with farscape.osd.bin (DISABLE_OSD=1), including the new availibility of the OSD settings menus in this case.
I will deliver a new version before the end of the week-end.
I must check before that all is working fine with the app version of the farscape osd.

I will check but I suppose that unplug could be a big problem for event-osd.
If you turn off and turn on without unplugging your HD, I imagine that it's working correctly ?

Quote

I will add an option in the configuration file like DISABLE_OSD_SETTINGS_FOLDER.

Yes, when turning off and on using the remote control, the movie sheet works. Whenever I unplug and re-plug the HD, the WDTV initiates a "storage scan", which I guess is causing the problem.

I was not able to reproduce the problem. With media library off, it seems to work.
I will try with media library on.

No, it's working for me.
You may try to eject properly your HD with the WD TVHD menu before turning off. That may help, not sure.

Hi again... :)

I will ask this for a guy in a german forum because his english is quite a bit worse than mine. :D He tried to run the movie sheet functionality, but it doesnt work. All other functions coming with your app are working, like the osd settings, etc...

He tried out to figure out a lot of possible issues, but everything seems to be like it has to. Like the file tree and the names of files. He even has no special characters in any folder or file name. He uses a USB pen to try the moviesheet with one film. He postet two screenshots of his data:

http://www.abload.de/image.php?img=1d3th.jpg

http://www.abload.de/image.php?img=2xdp5.jpg

I suggested that has to do with the endings of the filenames. Unfortunately he uses vista and does not show the endings. Does it matter if theyre named .JPG in stead of .jpg for example?

Or do you have any other clue where to look for the issue ...?

Hi again... :)

Yes it matters. He can try to change the name that triggers the movie sheet in the configuration file, using "xxxx.JPG" instead of "xxxx.jpg".

WDLXTV Application Pack
LaurentG.app.bin
Version 1.2

Download (http://lg.hc.free.fr/WDTVHD/download/LaurentG.app.v1.2.zip)

Here are the enhancements included in this application pack:
- new video thumbmail views using ratio 3/4 instead of 2/3 for thumbmails + menus to choose the configuration,
- new view displaying the movie sheet previously generated for example with the softwares Movie GUI Builder or TViXiE,
- access to the network shares even when the media library is off,
- correction of the French translation.

Installation

Warning: this application pack requires the WDLXTV firmware version 0.5.3.2.

This application pack can be run without the file "event-osd.app.bin", but in this case some features will be disabled.

Changelog

For each movie, you have to create a folder named with the title of the movie and containing:
- the file "folder.jpg", the movie poster,
- the file "wd_tv.jpg", the movie form,
- the video file, whatever its name.

Known problems

- compatibility with juliojs's application pack osdMod.app.bin in version 0.4.0.5

There is probably not a lot of changes to do in order to make it work with ext3-boot.
I will take a look to ext3-boot starting scripts and compare them to b-rad's.
By the way, I will not be able to test it myself.
So I could provide something not tested in next version.

Thanks!

I have checked quickly root.bin from ext3-boot.
Normally, my version 1.2 may already work with ext3-boot except the feature allowing to switch to different video thumbmails resolution. For this particular feature, I have done few little changes in my app and I could deliver a new version soon. I still need to compare few OSD XML files between the two firmwares.
Regarding the auto mount of network shares when media library is off, I don't know if it is necessary with ext3-boot ? Does ext3-boot already manages that in a better way than WDLXTV ?

Could you already try version 1.2 of my app with ext3-boot and tell me if the following features are already working:
-  new view displaying the movie sheet previously generated for example with the softwares Movie GUI Builder or TViXiE
- access to the network shares even when the media library is off

Hi,
I tried your app ver 1.2 with ext3-boot. I used TViXiE to generate wd_tv.jpg for a movie. I hope I didn't make a mistake:
I create a directory "movie", then I put the
movie.mkv
wd_tv.jpg (created by TViXiE)
folder.jpg
in it.
but it didn't display wd_tv.jpg I saw only blue background and the movie name.( I have to say that I didn't change anything in the configuration file, should I change any line)

for your second question: No when media library is off , I coulnd't access to the network shares.

Best Regards.

Blue ? Strange... When it does not work, I generally get a black background, not a blue background.
That means that at least event-osd triggers my script.
Can you please check that your wd_tv.jpg file has a reasonable size. Do you use the default TViXiE settings (75% compression) ?

I forgot to say that when I use appletrailers.app ,new views works and movie sheet displayed as expected but it didn't work with movies on my hard drive, and yes I used default settings of  TViXiE.

P.S: Blue background is the default screen.(like in the original firmware)

One more thing: thumbnail resizing didn't work for me.

But that is not the usual screen that is displayed ? You get a different screen with a black box at the bottom of the screen and the file name inside that box ?

At the moment, I cannot explain myself how you could have my special screen + the default background.

As I explained, thumbmail resizing cannot work with version 1.2 and ext3-boot. And configuration file cannot work too. Normally, I have done the required changes. That will be included in next release.

Regarding the network sharing when media library is off, I have to check how network shares are mounted in ext3-boot.
Do you see the new folder "OSD Settings" ?
What kind of network shares do you have ? CIFS, NFS, ... ?
What is the kind of your USB drive ? FAT32, NTFS, NFS, ... ?
Could you please execute the following commands:

I should, yes :)

Normally, one of two issues (network shares) shoulld not exist. If it does not work for one guy, maybe he is in a particular case, a particular case that would lead to the same results with WDLXTV. But that is too early to say that. ;)
Title: Re: My pack enhancing OSD

After reading few init scripts from ext3-boot, it looks like there was an attempt to manage mounting of network shares in such a way that it should work with or without the media library. But there are several stages. I am not sure to understand everything. The right file seems to be "/bin/xmounter".

Is it not working by default, meaning without any additional app.bin ?

great job on this osd mod !!  i took screen grabs from the aeon skin in xbmc and used those jpgs for enhanced movie info.it looks great .

I dont know if its a bug or not but with the LaurentG files on my drive the eject (safely remove usb device) now
just hangs.. and doesent release the usb drive.

I have tried several drives and it does the same thing. (from 1gig to 500gig drives)

If i delete the LaurentG mod from the hdd and try again then the eject works fine.

thanks again for this fantastic mod keep up the great work !!

You should at least see your WD1NFS network share. Do you see it inside USB1 ?
But for all others including "Apple Trailers", the mountting in USB1 seems to not be done. So that means you have no access to "Apple Trailers" for example ?

Manually...

But in the future, I will certainly include the possibility to display data (overriding the movie sheet) from a file. And of course, I will use that in combination of mediainfo exports.

That will be great. When we create the movie sheet, just reserve an area at the bottom of the screen, where you can use to display file info.  Looking forward to seeing it.

Awesome app - changes the whole WDTV experience, and definitely has the wow factor  :D. One question though is it possible to remove the black box containing the name of the video file at bottom of the screen, so only the movie form shows?

That box is used to display file names, in case you have multiple files under the folder. Otherwise you won't know which file in current.
I agree with you,  the black box should be removed.  Simply display the file name at the bottom of the screen is good enough.

I modified the positions of the textfields in Movie GUI Builder, so that they fit to the black box.
Some fields werent important for me, so I kicked them out.

That's normal. I will try to release a new version this week-end that should work with ext3-boot for this feature.

main movie menu ?? You mean the folder containing all your other folders (one per movie) ?
Does it happen when you use "back" button with the IR remote ?
Please give me a little scenario leading to this with little information about your folder tree.

That is certainly a consequence  of the previous point. But is it a movie sheet with the file name at the bottom right or is it the normal screen (list mode) with the movie sheet as background ? To ask the question in another way: is it my full special screen or is the normal screen with a wrong background ?

That is already possible just using the parameters in the configuration file. First define a new value for TEMPLATE like TEMPLATE="MyTemplate" and then set an empty string for FRAME_FILE (FRAME_FILE=""). You can even use other parameters to adjust the placement of the file name or its colors or its font siez or ...

Ok, I see now exactly what you mean.
In my opinion, the problem is with the file restore not working.

And thinking a little more deeply how I managed that and considering the feature that cannot work with this version and ext3-boot, I think I now understand why it does not work.
That should be fixed automatically when the other feature (selection of thumbmail configuration) will work well. By the way, I will make my restore code more robust.

As a temporary workaround, I can suggest you to try running these commands at least one time:
Code: [Select]
config_tool -c THUMBNUM=12
config_tool -c LISTNUM=8
After that, that should work ... I think. ;)

Well this is by far my favorite way of displaying movie info on the wdtv, which was one of my main concerns after I opened it up and realized it wasn't an option. I used a more complicated way before hand, however I'm having a bit of trouble using this new method...

Everything works as supposed to except the edges are cut off from the screen, tried it on a few different screens to make sure my tv wasn't messed up but I can't seem to get it working.

I'm using Movie GUI builder, and have it set to 1280x720 like it instructed in the readme, but the edges still are cut off on the left and right of the screen...? any ideas, or am I the only one this has
happened to, if so I'll suck it up and after generating the images, then go through and find a way to scale them down to something that fits better. Or is there an option I can change in the config file to help me out? It's become a bit of the pain seeing part of the cover, and having the release year cut off on the right...

Again thank you for taking the time to create this.

I unziped your file and copied them into HDD root.I reboot the WDTV by unplug/plug the power. When I clicked on the HDD icon. It says "Fold is Empty". I ftp to the HDD and found everything were there. What do you think the problem could be. Another thing is I did not see your new menu options for the OSD setup.  ???

I noticed that too. In any resolution but 1680x1050 and 640x480 (not 480p), the edges are being cut everywhere - unless you have overscan modifying function in TV. Instead of resizing background, I simply don't display anything important on the edges - so only unimportant parts are being cut:

WDLXTV Application Pack
LaurentG.app.bin
Version 1.3

Download (http://lg.hc.free.fr/WDTVHD/download/LaurentG.app.v1.3.zip)

This application pack can be run without the file "event-osd.app.bin", but in this case some features will be disabled.

Changelog

The first view is the one included in the previous versions; the new one allows to override the movie sheet with the content of the folder, either with a table of 7 little thumbmails or with a list of 3 file names.

Besides reducing width of table, you need to change one image - it was either browser_list_btn.png, or browser_list_btn.long.png, located in /images/ folder. Simply cut it to desired width, rename to eg. browser_list_btn.short.png, and in XML change lbimage to new image path.

LaurentG... I must say that I am impressed greatly with your mod!!! Using it along with B-rad's custom firmware and MovieGuiBuilder, gives me all that I need to catalog my movies in a pretty nice visual way. Thank you so much for making my media player experience 1000 times better!

I have my movie sheets looking great. But, now I do not know how you guys are making your magic with your programming skills here, but I wonder if there would be a way to have a trigger file for something like a trailer or sample movie added along with the main movie in a folder. About the only thing I am missing for my movie sheets is a trailer option to allow for movie previews. I hope I am being clear here. It would be nice to be able to add a movie trailer option to my movie sheet. Is there a way we could just copy a trailer mpeg/wmv/mkv file to the same folder and have an option added to the movie sheet to view it? Anyway... just a thought.

I know that WD must be looking at the work you are doing here. I just hope they are taking notes.
Keep up the nice work.

If I'm not mistaken you can do this yourself already with the folder options, have your movie folder

Whatever folder it is, your wd_tv image, you folder image, your movie file, and your trailer file, and you should be able to select either the movie or the trailer with the same sheet. I haven't tried this but based on what I think I read for setting this up with multiple movies in one folder it should work.

Just for myself if I were to do it this way I would rename the movie file to something along the lines of, play movie.avi (or whatever extension), and then the trailer to play trailer.avi. (The extension would be a little annoying, it would be nice to finally have a way of not having to use the extensions at all.

Your folder name and movie sheet will already give you the information about what file is contained within, just make sure you have the movie sheet already set up or your movie gui builder will have a hell of a time finding out what movie is inside.

Correct me if I'm wrong  ???

I had a bit of a problem early on, probably because I am pretty green when it comes to messing with the firmware.  After adding this OSD mod and removing the previous OSD mod I was using, I rebooted and my wdtv kept going through a reboot cycle.

It would boot up to the point where it shows you the logo and and your ip address and would reboot about 3 seconds after that.

I thought it was my thumb drive dying on me, but during my trouble shooting I replaced my current root.bin with the original root.bin for ext3-boot and faked an upgrade and everything works now.  I'm pretty sure that all I needed to do is replace the root.bin file.

I'm guessing something from my previous OSD mod was causing a conflict that resulted in the reboot loop?

I foolishly deleted my messages.txt... I know, I am no help at all.

I just wanted to share my experience in case somebody came across the same problem.

Thanks LaurentG!

Yes.
You can show a single picture (2 templates are possible, using wd_tv.jpg or wd_tv2.jpg).
Or add some text if you want (including a single text file).
Or add an xml (OSD syntax) if you prefer.

So in osdMod v0.4.0.5.

Question to the author:
You can add a display picture poster.jpg, is located in the folder with the xml-file?
Just under osdMod already finished files data.xml & poster.jpg - I really do not want to re-create all the descriptions...  :-\

Hello, LaurentG!

Firstly, thank you very munch for GREAT mod!

But, unfortunately, I can confirm, that when using it, it is impossible to unmount (eject) USB drive. This is true only for drives, containing media-data (movies). In the same time a drive, which contains a mod and other files for firmware to be working (I mean a pen-drive, which is all the time is inserted into WD TV), can be unmointed (ejected) without any trobles any time.

To repeat this situation by yourself, let's try to connect any USB drive to for example USB2 port of WD TV. Let's play at least one movie, than go back to the Home screen and try to eject this drive. In my case it 100% finishes with WD TV hanging. :(

The same time, if you just connect USB drive (with movies) and just after that will try to eject - it will be ejected. I want to say, if your mod isn't executed at least one time (showing movie information on the screen) - there is no problems with ejecting, but only you execute it once - it will be impossible to eject the drive anymore.

Can you please look more further on this issue? Thank you in advance!

P.S. Sorry for my poor english...  ::)

Ok, thank you for the clear description. I will try to reproduce first. I just know that whith movies on my USB pendrive, I am able to eject it. But in general, on the other USB port, I have my wifi adaptor. I will try to connect a hard drive and check that.
I have a little idea what could be the problem. And if it is what I think, I already have a solution to fix it.

When using this with ext3-boot the "All Videos" option doesn't work for me (using nfs shares).  I'm not sure if this is a known issue, or specific to ext3-boot (I know ext3-boot support is new).  I think I had this problem with WDLXTV, which was the main reason I switched to ext3-boot.

Normally, "All videos" displays only movie files, doesn't it ? Without folders, no chance to get movie sheet.
By the way, I will verify that but in my opinion it was never designed to work in another mode than the folder browsing.

I just came back to edit my post after playing around some more...

"All Video" works after scanning has finished.  The problem seems to be that it sometimes never stops scanning.  If I switch the media library off and then back on, "All Video" works as expected (without movie sheet).

So the problem has nothing to do with your OSD mod.  I apologize for the confusion.  Thank you for your hard work.

Yes.
You can show a single picture (2 templates are possible, using wd_tv.jpg or wd_tv2.jpg).
Or add some text if you want (including a single text file).
Or add an xml (OSD syntax) if you prefer.
Thanks.
So in osdMod v0.4.0.5.

Question to the author:
You can add a display picture poster.jpg, is located in the folder with the xml-file?
Just under osdMod already finished files data.xml & poster.jpg - I really do not want to re-create all the descriptions...  :-\

Not sure to clearly understand the question.
Unfortunately, I don't know what contains the file "data.xml" you are talking about.
The XML file I can load must be with the OSD syntax and can contain a tag "image" to load a picture. The only requirement would be that you put the full path (regarding WD TV) of the picture file in the XML file. Not obvious.

For osdMod I created two files - data.xml (a dmaosd xml-file) & poster.jpg, which shows data.xml (<image image="/apps/event-osd/osd-backup/image/poster.jpg" x="100" y="135" w="350" h="496" bg="0" scale="100"/>)
osdMod copying this image (poster.jpg) to "/apps/event-osd/osd-backup/image/poster.jpg"

Your mod uses only a data.xml (if correctly configured ...conf.txt) and don't work with poster.jpg (as it should be).

Can you change the script so that poster.jpg also copied to wd_tv.jpg (for use it in a xml-file)?

thank you, LaurentG, i really like your mod. (i have 1.2 installed at the moment)

Would it be possible to switch the moviesheets of movies at the same directory level by pressing "left" and "right"?

directory 1
|                                                               |
directory movie 1                                          directory movie 2
|moviesheet m1        <--direct move-->           |moviesheet m2

so you could browse the different movieinformation....

Just to understand: what contains your wd_tv.jpg ?

still nothing - just a wallpaper image (or blank|dummy image).

I create a description of the export from the database: "Personal Video Database" (receives a description of movies in Russian) - export to dmaosd xml with poster.jpg - copying all files to a destination folders. So get a minimum of manual work.  ;)

First of all, LaurentG, your app rocks!!   ;D

I'm also working on this feature, it shows the background named 'backdrop.jpg' instead the default WDTV backgrund, you can download a lot of this 'backdrops' at themoviedb.org

I'm working also with the programmer from a famous movieDB software, he will include support to export the movie info to a WDTV's xml file, also this info will include the mediainfo data. Check the preview sample on my blog.  ;)

It seems that 1.3 doesnt work with "DISABLE_OSD=1" like 1.2 did.
When settings are like that, no moviesheet will be shown, in 1.2 that was possible.
OSD Settings work, but not with resizeable thumbs, I only can set the number of thumbs.

Thanks and best regards.

I have reproduced the problem. And doing experiments, I discovered that it is not directly my app but in fact event-osd app who locks the eject.
I switch to event-osd topic to explain to elmarweber all my experiments and stange results.

I am sorry, I understand why you have no movie sheet displayed, that's my fault. For the resizable thumbs, I will check.
I will produce a new release soon correcting at least this bug.

WDLXTV Application Pack
LaurentG.app.bin
Version 1.3.1

Download (http://lg.hc.free.fr/WDTVHD/download/LaurentG.app.v1.3.1.zip)

This application pack can be run without the file "event-osd.app.bin", but in this case some features will be disabled.

Changelog

Hi there,

When I tried out this mod with <10 folders customized (TViX.jpg+wd_tv.txt), everything was working as expected.

However, when I have all of my movies (100+ folders) customized, background image(TViX.jpg) displaying started to show the same background image of the last folder that I was in when I changed to the other folders. Further more, it would display the correct background image if I opened a couple folders(5-10) further, then this correct background would be displayed for other folders again. And this problem kept repeating.

ie,
ENTER > Movie 1, DISPLAY = Movie 1 (TViX.jpg), Movie 1 (wd_tv.txt)
RETURN, DISPLAY = restored
ENTER > Movie 2, DISPLAY = Movie 1 (TViX.jpg), Movie 2 (wd_tv.txt)
RETURN, DISPLAY = restored
ENTER > Movie 3, DISPLAY = Movie 1 (TViX.jpg), Movie 3 (wd_tv.txt)
RETURN, DISPLAY = restored
ENTER > Movie 4, DISPLAY = Movie 1 (TViX.jpg), Movie 4 (wd_tv.txt)
RETURN, DISPLAY = restored
ENTER > Movie 9, DISPLAY = Movie 9 (TViX.jpg), Movie 9 (wd_tv.txt)
RETURN, DISPLAY = restored
ENTER > Movie 1, DISPLAY = Movie 9 (TViX.jpg), Movie 1 (wd_tv.txt)
RETURN, DISPLAY = restored
...
..
.

I suspect that this might be the wdtv caching problem. I was wondering if anyone is having the same problem as me?

btw:
- v1.3, have not tested with 1.3.1 yet.
- all the test folders and movies are on a linux nfs server, mounting in read-only mode.
- for every background images, i tried to keep their sizes under 100k.
- this happened on folders "with" and "without" spaces in their names.

Thank you again for this great mod.

For an unknown reason, the creation of the symbolic link to your TViX.jpg file could fail. When it happens, you could check files with the following commands:
Code: [Select]
ls -l /tmp/osd.mod/imageto see if the link with your JPEG file is done or not.

If you have a scenario that can be reproduced systematically, please give me a ZIP or TAR file containing you folders tree (without the movie files of course). I will check if I can reproduce the problem.

Would someone be able to assist me.  I have never added an .app to the WD TV, I have succesfully installed B-Rad's most recent firmware: WDLXTV-0.5.3.2.

I downloaded the LaurentG.app.bin Version 1.3.1, unzipped to my FAT32 Formatted USB Flash.  (nothing is on the USB, besides the conent of the .zip).

Put the flash into the WD TV, rebooted my WD TV, and I see no additional OSD Menus, how is it I access them ?

Thank you.

Note I have edited the parameters to reflect the defaults.  All files from .zip are in the root of the Flash.

Alright I have it working, my problem was I wash soft booting, not hard booting.   One more question, can I erase all the files off of the Flash now that I have installed the .app, or are there certain files I HAVE to keep on the root dir at a all times ?

You have to define correctly the file triggering the special display.
If you are using TViXiE, either set TRIGGER_FILE to "TViX.jpg" in the configuration file, or rename all your TViX.jpg files into wd_tv.jpg.

For example, for the movie American Gangster, the movie folder is "American Gangster", and into the folder i have 3 files, American Gangster.jpg (movie cover), American Gangster.mkv (movie) and Tvix.jpg. I respect always the capitals, but in some movies the wdtv show me the tvix.jpg as thumbnail.

Thnx and continue the good work!

You have to define correctly the file triggering the special display.
If you are using TViXiE, either set TRIGGER_FILE to "TViX.jpg" in the configuration file, or rename all your TViX.jpg files into wd_tv.jpg.

I tried but not working for me, I spent hours to figure it out without success  :(
The other think is If I go to usb2 (usb1 has the bin files) witch has all my movies I can see 2times Verbatim and OSD settings so why I see
2times the name of the drive? I can go into both and I can play movies from both.

For an unknown reason, the creation of the symbolic link to your TViX.jpg file could fail. When it happens, you could check files with the following commands:
Code: [Select]
ls -l /tmp/osd.mod/imageto see if the link with your JPEG file is done or not.

the link is created correctly when entering new folders, but on the display is still the old JPG file.  :-[

Thank for the help.

Could you please test this folder setup ?

I can confirm that the problem happens on this folder structure (on a usb-stick).

Thank you for your time

Thank you. I was able to reproduce the bug. That's very strange, the problem is due to "ln -sf" which seems to be done but then not taken into account !!!!!!! To be honnest, I don't understand what's wrong.
By the way, I have now switched to a systematic copy of the JPEG file and now the problem is solved.

A new version will be released tomorrow. This version will correct this bug and provide a better compatibility with the last WDLXTV firmware (0.5.5).

First method is easier I think ;)

Is there any update on the USB devices unmount-bug? Is it a problem caused by event-osd?

This is now cleary identified as event-osd bug. elmarweber said to us that this will be fixed in the next version. So be patient.

I got wdlxtv 0.5.5, LaurentG.app.v1.3.1
1st I installed  wdlxtv than I unzipped LaurentG.app to pendrive than I used tvixie to find some of my movies details to try, tvixie found and placed some files into the movie folder.
Do I need to download something else to the pendrive or do I need to change something in the config file?
Thanks for your help

- write a text explaining more in details all the offered features

With last version (1.3.2), you can automatically add a picture over the background (movie sheet). Suppose your picture is named "poster.jpg" in the movie folder, then set the following parameters in the file LaurentG.conf.txt:
ADDITIONAL_INFO_TYPE="picture"
ADDITIONAL_INFO_FILE="poster.jpg"
and finally adjust the required position and size for the picture in the file 'LaurentG_templates/additional_picture.conf.txt".

Quick question - can you set the default so both wd_tv.jpg and TViX.jpg are active at the same time. I've got a mix a jpgs in various folders named with a mix of both, and the trigger seems only to work with the default, to the exclusion of the other. I hope this makes sense and if anyone can help that would be even better. Cheers!

# TRIGGER_FILE: first file searched inside the current folder to trigger the
# display of the movie sheet
# Default is "wd_tv.jpg".

# TRIGGER_FILE="TViX.jpg"

@Dvdgeek:
as a workaround, you could use windows search and the program 'Ant Renamer' to rename either wd_tv.jpg or tvixie.jpg so that all files are equally named

MOVIE_SHEET_VIEW="basic"

MOVIE_SHEET_VIEW2="basic"

And you will have exactly what you request.

got x folders with pics and need to copy/rename in the same directory..

when your drive is connected to the WDTV or any other Linux system its rather easy, assuming you have one jpg image in each directory and want it to be named folder.jpg:

Code: [Select]
find /path/to/HDD -type d -exec echo "cd \"{}\" && mv *.jpg folder.jpg" \;  > /tmp/tmps.sh
sh /tmp/tmps.sh

if your image already has a specific name and you want it changed you can use the more safe

Code: [Select]
find /path/to/HDD -type d -exec echo "cd \"{}\" && mv [b]old_name.jpg[/b] folder.jpg" \; > /tmp/tmps.sh
sh /tmp/tmps.sh

on the WDTV you can execute them via telnet or SSH for your HDD in /tmp/media/usb/ ...

Now I can't see the movie pictures (wd_tv.jpg created with Tvixie), folder pix work ok ... Reverted back to 5.3.2 and v1.1 but it didn't work now ???
Maybe there are some hidden settings saved on the HDD or the WDTV...Please help ;D

OK, problem solved 8). CHKDSK found some errors on the HDD and fixed them... everything works fine

Currently, your generated dmaosd XML file must not display the poster file. My app is doing it.
So you have:
- wd_tv.jpg displayed as background by my app
- wd_tv_osd.wml automatically included by my app
- poster.jpg automatically added by my app
File names can be changed with configuration parameters.

I got on the pendrive laurentGapp. 1.3.2 unzipped ( i tired to change some things in the config file and tried untouched as well) and tried to format fat32 and ntfs as well. I tried to change the name of the folder and tried to set media library on and then off.
So I just can't believe it it's not working for me ???

If your files are named "TViX.jpg", you have to uncomment the second line, meaning removing the leading # character in the second line.
By default (with the config file unchanged), files "wd_tv.jpg" trigger the movie sheet display.

wd power turned on/off ?

I went through the same thing and have a lot less hair now than when first started, but in the end the solution was easy as Ahbfo9 says. You need to turn off the WDTV at the wall - I just pull out the power plug from the unit. Wait a few seconds then plug it back in. Turn on the WDTV and the magic begins!

Why is this tho?? I have to do the same thing and unplug and plug back in which i discovered myself but then I reckon I have to do most times after I turn my hard drive off. Its not that big a deal but just bugs me sometimes as i'll load it up and then start to browse my folders only for the sheets not to come up.

Of course, unplug is needed as a reboot is required.
I will add the information in the installation paragraph.
Turning off and on the HDD could be a problem if my app and more exactly event-osd app is on this HDD. If you put app on a USB pendrive, you should be able to turn off and then on your HDD without any problem.

Ok, so finally the two guys having troubles use ext3-boot. So I conclude there might be something wrong with ext3-boot and that might be in relation to the variable AROOT...

If one of you have a network access, could you please check the content of the following file:

and tell me if the file is empty ?
Finally tell me if other .conf files are present in that folder ?

Can I simply replace the event-osd with the one I downloaded (v1.7)?  I'm using WDLXTV 0.55

Yes

Ext3-boot-0.9.2 with LaurentG 1.3.2 and event-osd-r170 and so far so good. All the sheets are displaying correctly.

BTW the /tmp/LaurentG/conf directory have the following files

Code: [Select]
additional_picture.conf           extended_list.top_center.conf
additional_text.conf              extended_thumb.bottom_left.conf
basic.bottom_left.conf            extended_thumb.bottom_right.conf
basic.bottom_right.conf           extended_thumb.top_center.conf
basic.top_center.conf             main.conf
extended_list.bottom_left.conf    main_default.conf
extended_list.bottom_right.conf

Ok thanks a lot. So that is not a general problem with ext3-boot.

Yes, to wdlxtv 0.5.5. But now it works! :o Is the LaurentG_templates folder necessary for the functionality?

Yes, of course !

It works for me now.

main.conf is not empty and there are lots of other conf files in that directory

So that looks ok on that side. But I know that it will be ok as someone else with ext3-boot already confirmed that everything is ok.
So I am sorry but I see no valid reason why it is not working for you. Just delete and then replace ALL your files with the content of my ZIP file and then adjust the file LaurentG.conf.txt (if necessary) and finally unplug power and plug power.
For ext3-boot, set ENABLE_OSD to 1 and set TRIGGER_FILE to the name of your movie sheets if different from wd_tv.jpg.

still not working ??? ??? I deleted wdlxtv firm and put back the original, then updated to the new 0.5.5 wdlxtv firm , unzipped laurentG.app to a fat32 formatted pendrive(nothing changed in the config file) I got wd_tv.jpg and folder.jpg next to the mkv file and still doesn't show osd.
and of course unplugged several times the power cord.
How is it possible it's not working for me??????????????????????

If you have a network acces to the WD TVHD, go to /apps/event-osd and get the log file. Then join this file here so that we can check first whether my script is called or not.

Same request for zepperdude.

do you have the LaurentG_templates folder on your stick? it is necessary for the app to work correctly (was my prob yesterday^^ tried it about 2h with different configs but without this folder...thought it is optional^^. but know everything works fine also with ext3 fw)

I don't know what was wrong probably event-osd because I replaced with the newest one (r170) and now working ;D other thinks I had to rename wd_tv.jpg files to wd_tv (without.jpg) .
Thanks for your help guys

Ok, so now, after consulting my private messages, it looks like everybody finally succeeded to make it work.
Main reason when it does not work is when people only take few files from my ZIP file but not all ! So either some files are missing, or some files are here but too much old (event-osd for example).

I've got a question here: How to play all videos one after another under the same folder?
I have a folder contains multiple video files. When the folder was selected, the movie sheet shows. I was able to use up and down buttons to scroll through the video list. However, WDTV stops after playing the one selected and went back to movie sheet screen. I have to manually select the next one to play. I tried to set "Repeat All" option, and it did not help. I'm wondering if this is an issue of OSD mods.

All is working fine except of the "OSD Settings" feature.
I just can't see it.
Running it from the console doesn't change anything too.

Try without my app and tell us if you have a different result. I would be very suprised if it was the case.

It can depend on what firmware/OSD theme you are using. The used OSD theme must offer different resolutions.

Please tell me what firmware do you have ? Do you use a particular osd.bin ?
For example, if your firmware is ext3-boot and you don't use particular OSD theme, you need to enable my OSD changes by setting ENABLE_OSD to 1 in the configuration file.

ENABLE_OSD set to 1 is normally the right value with ext3-boot if you want the choice of thumbmail resolutions.

You should have a running process "list.watch" and an accees to a folder "OSD Settings". If you have neither of them, that could mean that you forgot to put a file at the root of your drive...

First off Laurent, huge thanks for your work, I know that the movie sheet/info screen is something an awful lot of people want or find useful.  I've installed WDLXTV 5.5 and also your latest (1.3.2) and everything works fine, to a point.

To be honest, I thought I had done something wrong, because on performing a hard reboot I got the welcome WDTV screen and then it went black and the tv received no signal.  Presumeably whilst it was booting the app?  However it was so long!  I gave up a few times since I had had no success and it was only once I'd left it and gone to bed that I woke up with it working - I had left it for at least 15 minutes before at times.

And its still slow.  If a folder is cached its fine, but if it is accessing it for the first time or after a while it takes a long time to open - an average is around 40 seconds.  Has anyone else had this problem?

I have everything extracted on a Cruzer USB drive (8gb) that is FAT32.  Im going to try it on the HDD that all the media is on to see if there is any difference, just thought I would ask you knowledgeble chaps first...

Once again many thanks Laurent

When booting, yes we have the black screen (blue screen on my TV) during a long time. I calculated a total boot time of 2 minutes, meaning we have the black screen during at least 1 minute (not really caclulated).

My personal way to use all this is to have all the apps on a Corsair 8 GB USB key connected to USB 1 and then media data on USB 2 either through a Wifi connection or through a USB hard drive connection.

Using my app and event-osd reduces performance when navigating through folders, but it is still acceptable in my humble opinion, even if we are now studying (see other topic) elmarweber and myself to solutions to improve performance.

Thanks for the quick reply.  I don't think its a failing in what you've done, and wasnt suggesting it was too slow, just that mine was - ie something not working right at my end.  Im going to check the USB pen and see whether the data got corrupted -

...but just to clarify - it wasnt 2 minutes for me it was over 15 before I turned off the tv and went to bed!  But as I said, its something my end and wanted to see if anyone had suggestions of things to check, Im new to all this!

I can't get this to work. It looks so cool.

I have a structure like: /Video/Children/Bolt   In Directory Bolt I have wd_tv.jpg that was created via Movie Gui Builder. I also have movieInfo.xml in the same directory and INCLUDE_OSD_FILE="movieInfo.xml" in LaurentG.conf.txt. I get neither movie info displaying, normal stock folder behavior.

Any clues?

Didjit

EDIT: Figured it out. I needed to remove LaurentG, reboot and then re-add LaurnetG. Works now, cool.

Hi, Thanks for this really fine osd mod. It's works almost perfect for me. I used the program TViXiE. (new update available).
I have one question. I have made an wd_tv.jpg in the movie folder (tv-show).
Is it possible to place three wd_tv.jpg files in this folder so i can show all the episode information of a complete season at the plot screen (template)? Maybe there is a better solution?

Im using  b-rad version 0.5.5 with LaurentG Version 1.3.2
Thanks for the answer.

Not sure if this is helpful but what I do with TV shows is to have a folder called TV. Within this folder are subfolders with each TV show. In these folders I have "background.jpg" created by Tvixie, which displays when folder is opened. Within each folder are the seasons in their own folder and each has its own "background.jpg" with the season info which displays when selected.

TV (folder.jpg)

                      (background.jpg)

Hi, this works also fine to me. The only problem is the episode info (plot) within a season. One background.jpg is to short to display all of the episode information of one season. Is it possible to use more background.jpg in one folder witch i can switch with the remote. The background.jpg are all the same except the plot (episode information). I hope there is an solution for that.

Hi LaurentG,

Im really new to modding and would like to know how to get your pack enhancing OSD to work. I currently have wdlxtv 0.5.5 installed by itself and would like to have the movie info screen that's in your pack. I've tried extracting the event-osd.app.bin, LaurentG.app.bin, LaurentG.app.event and the LaurentG.conf.txt on to my 1GB FAT32 USB drive in the root of the usb and pluged it into the wdtv box but it doesn't come up with any folder for the OSD/ OSD settings. If you could please tell me how to install it step by step i would be extremely appreciative as i am a total noob at all of this.

Many thanks in advance.

Just copy the LaurentG.bin file and eventosd.bin to your usb root directory and thats it. It will then load automatically.

Hi gunman,

Thanks for the reply. I just tried that and I have a look in the all of the menus and it says that there is nothing in the folders. It also doesn't start up automatically. I have tried putting it in both usb ports but still nothing happens. I don't have any osd currently on the box itself any feedback/help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

ekass1 i was running into the same problem. it took me a few days but i found out what the problem was. you have to turn off media library in wdtv (settings-->system-->media library off). once that is done, goto video and select USB 1 or USB 2. You should have OSD settings listed now. Let me know if that works.

Hey azdps,

Thank you very much.

Hello Ekass1

Did you extract the whole archive including the "LaurentG_templates" directory to your usb drive??

If not: please do so and after that restart your wdtv by disconnecting it from the power.
good luck!

is it possible to set your own background?

And second question, is it possible to make this compatible with the lillibabe osd.bin mod.
Because the icons and style of that mods really attracts me, but the functionality of this mod are really cool

Sorry but I'm a complete n00b to this.
I flashed the firmware with WDLXTV which was fine. I then added this pack for enhacing the OSD.
I have the new OSD's but if I click on them they say "folder is empty" so I'm not sure if that's supposed to happen.

Also I have thumbnails for all my movies and they display but the Movie sheets don't. They are named correctly from using Ian's WDTV Movie Sheet generator and I'm pulling my hair out trying to sort it.

TIA for any assistance.

To all those supplying the mod scene, your time and effort is really appreciated.

I noticed that after installing the app, fast scene movies started skipping (jerky playback).
After deleting the files from pen and rebooting the problem disappeared which make me pretty sure it was due to this app.
I'm using zorander's ext3.
Did anyone else have similar problem?

hi ive just started reading up on modding my wdtv

ive upgraded to wdlxtv and have unzipped all of the laurentg.app on my hard drive and have rebooted

i rebooted and a black screen appears (probably booting up)

it seems to me that rebooting is a long process

im just wondering if this app is worth doing if i have a terabyte with >900 movies on it

as well, will it take the same amount of time after i switch the wdtv off

thanks

(by the way, the app looks great)

RE - phatty

unplug your 1 terabyte while it loads the mod, then plug it back in.  it goes a lot faster this way.

***reboot-eject your hard drive, power off, unplug from wall, unplug hdd and thumb.  plug in thumb with new fw, osd, app. plug back into wall, let it load completely, then plug in your hdd.  there won't be any corrupt data that way. i guess the previous poster misunderstood what i was saying.

Ok I got it all working and it's really nice wiith the movie sheets and jpegs etc.

However I  can't remove a drive form the player with my media on it. If I remove it with the eject button on the remote, it just displays the shutting down USB device logo on the screen and 10 mins later it's still doing it. If I turn off the WDTV then remove it, when I start it back up with it attached  or not then it thinks the USB device is attached regardless but it contains no data. So I have to shut it down again, remove the drive, restart it, let it boot up, then reattach the drive and let it scan it, which sometimes has the light blinking on it constantly and it never completes.

Done this with multiple drives and have no issues without LaurentG's app.

I also cannot eject my usb drive.  It just hangs on the eject drive screen.  I have WDLXTV 0.5.5 and LaurentG installed.  Otherwise, the mods seem to work fine.  The only other problem I'm having is that when I power off the WDTV, my hard drive spins down, and then spins back up a few seconds later.  Is this normal?  Do I need to have the LaurentG app on a separate drive in order for my media drive to stay spun down?  TIA!

Hi All,

im thinking of installing this OSD, for those who have already test this, can i just ask:

1. would this OSD be better in performance then webserver addons? (im running webserver addons, with 0.5.6, however it is very slow in performance, especially when i browse my movies folder in thumbnail mode..i have a lot of thumbnails for all my movies)

thanks

Hi,

Hoping someone can help sort this problem out. I'd appreciate it! I have downloaded wdlxtv, laurentg's mod and am using wdtvgenarator for movie sheets but i have a problem where the movie sheet is to big for the screen. See below. You cant see the left hand side of the coverart and the wd_tv image.jpg is blown up to big. I think it may be a resolution problem or needs to be defined somewhere. Hoping you can help. Scherzzo

Are you sure your TV is set to wide or stretch? And in the settings of the WDTV you can choose auto for the resolution or set it by hand. You may want to try those settings too.

And does the normal OSD seem to work normal? Or do you think you are missing some parts on the left there too?
Title: Re: My pack enhancing OSD

------> redindian

I have messed around with the settings, wide stretch and resolution settings but no luck. the osd settings arent off and they look fine. I think it's just when displaying images that they over stretch. I saw a post about it before but cant seem to find it now. All my pictures in my photos folder are the same also.

Post by: redindian on August 22, 2009, 06:27:24 AM
Sorry, don't know what that is then. If normal osd is ok, I would say it is the osd mod. What are your display settings? 1080p or 720p or 480p?

Post by: Scherzzo on August 22, 2009, 07:57:30 AM
my display is 1080p. can i edit the osd to fit my settings? maybe i could try reinstall it?

You know the welcome_background_bg.jpg file?

Thats also blown up to big. I only noticed that now cause i just had a black backround before but i tried a different image and it's massive on the screen and you only see a third of the actual picture! This is the pic i used  http://b.imagehost.org/0072/My_Street_Fighter_4_wallpaper.jpg

you dont even see chun li when it's set as the welcome_background_bg.jpg

Hi Laurent.  Great work.

I was wondering if it was possible to pick 1920x1080 picture size for wd_tv.jpg instead of 1280x720 since I find many more 1920 backdrops and I like to keep a higher quality sheet if possible.

Actually what I really wonder is if it would it be possible for the app to autodetect the jpg size and show the entire picture instead of just a part in 1920x1080 if there is no particular limitation?

Thanks

Francis

there is a maximum size, under that size it will still load. but backgrounds cannot be resized, so you see only first part when bigger.

normally it should just scale to fit the screen since the osd files have exact coordinates for screensize 1280x720. not sure if you can modify the mod settings. i know some of the examples worked here, but others looked dispositioned.

You need to rename the file background.jpeg to wd_tv.jpg to be able to view the movie info.
or, you can change the laurentg conf-file, so that background.jpg is the trigger file. i guess thats the easier solution

Hi LaurentG... first of all, many compliments for your great work.
I used your OSD mod for some time and now it doesn't work anymore, from the time I installed the redindian's Webserver Addons version 0.2.
I don't understand if the problem is the Elmarweber's event-osd version... I don't know how to verify this.
I installed redindian's Webserver Addons version 0.2 and after installed LaurentG v1.3.2 without overwriting the Elmarweber's event-osd file and so I'm using the Webserver Addons version.
The problem is that after the boot of the WDTV, the directory /apps/LaurentG is empty.
I solved the limitation of the number of applications installable...
Hope you can help me.

I just picked up this little device and this is exactly the sort of thing i want to do with it, i have installed the WDLXTV firmware, and copied the contents of the laurent.app.bin.zip to the root of the drive.

I have a Movies folder and inside there each film has its own folder with the appropriatte wd_tv.jg and folder.jpg generated by the Movie Sheet Generator.

The problem i have is when it boots it loads the WDLXTV firmware but it doesnt appear to be mounting the Laurnet.app.bin, and when i browse movies its the same as the original view with no movie sheets or new interface.

I was wondering if anyone who have this working could share thier file/folder sturctures so i can compare and see where im going wrong.

Should the contents of the Laurent.app.bin.zip all be placed on root?, should i have a movies folder or should the individual film folders be on the root also? Do i need to edit the config file to activate the interface?

Any help anyone can offer would be appreciatted as its driving me insane!

Thanks in advance!

I have just recently done this too, mine works perfectly ans this is how I've set mine up.

USB1 has a memory stick with the custom firmware (WDLXTV) and all the Laurnet stuff on the root of the memory stick.

USB2 had a 1tb WD Homebook with 2 main folders, movies & TV. Within those folders I have sub folders for each film and TV program/season.

I.e. TV has sub folders like this...

Fringe Season 1
X Files Season 1
X Files Season 2
etc...

I have a folder.jpg within Movies & TV so that they show an image before I go into that folder.

/apps/LaurentG  ??.... LaurentG files have to be on the "Root" of your drive.

check this post and give this a try

http://wdtvforum.com/main/index.php?topic=1644.msg14844#msg14844

all LaurentG files (LaurentG.app.bin   LaurentG.app.event  LaurentG.config.txt) have to be on the "Root" of your drive...if you have them in folders then it aint gonna work.
OK idaho680... now it works... I followed your directions in the linked topic and everything is ok now... I discovered that I had the file LaurentG.conf.txt completely different from yours.
You're right... the file
event-osd.app.bin, LaurentG.app.bin, LaurentG.app.event, LaurentG.conf.txt
must be in the root of the drive...
but during the boot process the LaurentG.app.bin is expanded in the directory
/apps/LaurentG
and before your help this directory was always empty... now that it works I've found files in that directory.

Many thanks... this evening at home I'll try your new TViXiE-XBMC-Templates.

Newbie here!

Okay after some trial and tribulations I finally installed
WDLXTV Version: 0.5.3.2  over my factory 1.02.07 firmware.

I'm assuming I need additional software like LaurentG.app.bin to change the look of my menus and functionality.

I have a Terabyte drive with all the movies and used a Pendrive to flash the firmware. Where do I extract the LaurentG.app.bin zip file to the root of a pendrive or my terabyte with the movies.  What do I do next?

first of all, Thanx to LaurentG and B-rad  ;D

I have a little problem, when I play Bluray(mkv) with DTS sound, the Picture and sound breaks up.
Is it due to memory problems? I havent tried XVID files yet, I will do that later.

Im using WDLXTV 0.5.5, and LaurentG app 1.3.2

@ LaurentG

I'm using ext3-boot and I can't get your OSD mod to work properly - similar to user Mart (6Jul) I don't see the "OSD Settings" folder.  In fact the only change I see is that the text size/colour of a file name is larger and white instead of blue.

These are the files in the root of the USB stick:
Code: [Select]
-rwxr-xr-x    1 root     root       569344 Sep 23 09:52 LaurentG.app.bin
-rwxr-xr-x    1 root     root          415 Sep 23 09:52 LaurentG.app.event
-rwxr-xr-x    1 root     root         8076 Sep 23 10:29 LaurentG.conf.txt

These are the only apps in use:
appletrailerfs
event-osd
eiri
opt.bin (ie. b-rad optware)
webserver

These are the lines in the conf.txt file:
ENABLE_OSD=1
DISABLE_OSD_SETTINGS_FOLDER=0
ENABLE_AUTOMOUNT=1

I tried using the config_tool method but it made no difference.  I did a reboot -f after each change.  I even tried using a S00custom-options file but I don't think ext3-boot reads this (I think it only reads scripts in /etc/init.d though I'm not sure).

I have no list.watch process running.  Let me know if you need any other info, many thanks.

I have LAurent's mod working with the one of Lilibabe.

I am using the latest firmware version of b-rad (0.5.6.2) and I also have lilibabe's OSD and it is still working excellent :)

I am having a bit of an issue I think.  I used to see the OSD settings option under video, but now it says UpNp (and my flash drive Corsair)  I have been doing some playing, but thought I had everything set up.

The funny thing, the movie sheets still work... While browsing the folders, I still see the cover, and when I press enter on it, the movie sheet shows up, then enter to play.

I am guessing that means the LaurentG pack is still running then, but not being able to see OSD settings is confusing me...

Any ideas?

edit: I guess this is intermittent.  I switched between USB1 and USB2 and the movie sheets quit working...

edit2: I wiped the flash drive and reloaded the firmware and laurent pack and it is working again, the UpNp folder is still there, residual effects of trying to get the wireless going perhaps...  :)

How do you remove the filename info that is displayed at the bottom of the movie sheet as shown in this screenshot?  I'm pretty sure it is possible but drawing a blank.

Yes, you need LaurentGs APP. Nothing more. Extract the APP files in your root directory and put the movie sheets named as wd_tv.jpg (you can change this default name if you want) in each movie folder.

No. Only Displays the Movie Sheet when you select the movie.

I can only imagine that I am being exceedingly dumb but I cannot get the movie sheets to work at all.

I have installed the latest WDlxTV version ( 5.6.1 ) and extracted out all the LaurentG files to the root of my HDD with my films on - They are all in seperate folders, with the wd_tv.jpg file in each folder, under a parent folder called Films.

But I cannot get the Movie Sheets to show at all.

Am I missing a basic step? Please help.

Hi,

How this was solved?

I am an advanced computer user (well, i think so :-) but this time I am stuck!

I did installed WDlxTV version ( 5.6.1 ) and tried to put the LaurentG (actually sitting on the root of my HDD). I can see the wooden background.

I have used a tool to build up my film sheets. info and images are there. (films in seperate folders, with the wd_tv.jpg file or TViX.jpg in each folder, under a parent folder called Films. I have edited the txt file of LaurentG to get also recognition of the TViX.jpg)

if I put the setting to view folder thumbnail, I do see them (they are using the folder.jpg created0)

But I cannot get the Movie Sheets to show at all.

Where did I miss something? (I am sure it is somthing stupid and basic like the correct boot sequence or where exactly to put the laurentG file and so on ....

help ?

This might help you, might not.

I had problems when I used it for the first time, I think I did a reset of the WDTV through the system settings of the box then I did a coule of reboots, and a couple of hard (power plug out) resets.

And eventually it worked.

Not a clear answer, but these .bin files are starange sometimes, it was the same for the lillabe osd for me as well.

My box went in to a reboot loop for a few times then it eventually sorted itself.

What I did find was a seperate usb stick for stuff helped a bit as well.

If it helps I can confirm the same kind of experience as wdtv fan. Then, after a couple of cold reboots, normally it stabilises itself and all works as expected (i.e. very well!). Nowadays I usually do a cold reboot twice after having put a new application on my usb stick. If you start testing stuff after only one reboot then it very seldom works. wdtvfan, you are the first one two mention this I think. Gives some comfort to not be alone!

Hi LaurentG,

Thank you very much for your mod. It is very useful for me because I like movie sheets to much.

I have a little problem. I am using a modify template to remove Botton Frame & Text so I can see full movie info screens without nothing else on the screen (except the movie sheet of course).

With movies is perfect, but I can not see the chapters of my series (I only see an arrow or two arrows, but I can not see the titles).

Could be possible to do something in the template so I could see the chapter's names when I am in a Series folder?

The modify template has been made by idaho680:

Hey idaho...can you tell me exactly where in the config file I can disable the movie file?  I tried searching for it last night and couldn't pin point it.  Your help is greatly appreciated.  It bothers me that I am creating movie sheets and when viewing them, the file name at the bottom of the screen is cutting some of the movie sheet off.

Is this a bug or a feature?

If I have a folder without the actual .avi file, the thumbnail doesn't show up in the list of files.

For example, if I have 25 sub-folders under the TV folder, but only 8 of them have video files in them, when I browse the tv folder, only those 8 show up.  I would like to be able able to see all 25 if possible.

If I create a dummy .avi file for the 'empty' folders, they all show up.

Is this just a config setting?

Thanks!!

I seem to be having a similar/same problem as mamayomyom was back in June.

Everything seems to be working correctly except that which ever folder I go into first (after fresh boot) is what movie sheet is displayed in ALL movie folders until I reboot the WDTV.  The folder.jpg images are displayed correctly and the movie file is correct but the movie sheet is the same in all folders.

I am using the correct folder/file structure.  That is not the issue.

I am using the latest B-rad FW (0.5.7) and the latest LaurentG (1.3).  And I am using the B-rad's UPnP-djmount.app.bin-0.2.2 pack to access my NAS via UPnP.

It appears that Laurent does not seem to be too active in this thread anymore.  I hope either he is or that someone else can help me with this.

I started off with the laurentg application but I am now using TiTi's msheet application instead. It is very similar to laurentg but enables some additional flexibility. It works this way: the wd_tv.jpg files that you have already created are displayed by msheet as a fullpage movie sheet without any thumbs - suitable for single-file movies. If you instead name your movie sheet to folder_sheet.jpg ("folder" is not the name of the folder, it is the word folder) it will be displayed as a fullpage sheet, but with thumbnails along the bottom suitable for multifile videos, for example a season of a TV show.

I have event-osd.app.bin, LaurentG.app.bin, LaurentG.app.event, and LaurentG.conf.txt all extracted to both the root of the drive and inside the .wdtv directory, but the movie sheets don't show up  >:(

Created the movie sheets with Tvixie, changed conf.txt so the trigger word is "background.jpg", but the movie sheets don't show up, using latest version of WDLXTV already  :'(

Hi,

I am completely new on this forum, but I really love it...

I directly wanted to use the laurentg's app (thx for this app) but unfortunately my box (FW: ext-boot) is going to reboot once I enter the folder in which a movie is lying. I guess there is some misconfiguration that leads to the reboot. So first of all I do not find any detailed information about the file called "wd_tv_osd.xml"?! Can anybody explain how this shall look like?

So the problem is that I was using tvxixie and downloaded some information onto my external HD, now the folder has the following content:

- background.jpg
- folder.jpg
- front_cover.tvxivie
- MovieInfo.tvxivie

So basically the file folder.jpg is shown once I am browsing via the HD TV. It's possible to see it on the overview. The file background.jpg shall be shown once we are entering the folder. What about the other files? I can see that MovieInfo.tvxivie has got some XML data inside that's the reason why I pointed the OSD file inside the LaurentG.conf.txt on it!? Is this correct?

Can anybody give me some hints/help me on this issue?

Here is my LaurentG.conf.txt:

I have two questions:

-Does it work with network shares or just with local USB drives?
I tried it with WDLXTV LIVE 0.2.0, I created the wd_tv.jpg and folder.jpg, but I cannot see the movie sheet backround, just the B-rad's background. I found the OSD Settings folder, so I presume that the program is running...

Hi ...

... a question, if you can spare the time ...

... I have installed the latest WDLXTV firmware on my new WDTV, and have unpacked the LaurentG.app.v1.3 into my USB's root bin, which now lists:

event-osd.app
LaurentG.app
LaurentG.app.event
LaurentG.conf

...plus two read-me files.

However, I have no earthly idea if it's even working ... when I put in the WDLXTV, at least I could tell it was upgrading my little box there ... but, when I turn on my WDTV, nothing happens, and so I have no indication it's even working, much less start on movie sheets and so on ...

I've tried for a couple days on my own now ... and am usually reasonably good at figuring things out on my own ... but, this has me stumped ... and to be honest, I am not a programmer, a hacker, or anywhere proficient at this as you guys seem to be ... just an ordinary guy who wants a nicer background image than basic blue ...

... so, a little help if you don't mind?

Thanks

and looking at the files in your post..... you are missing  the   "LaurentG_templates"     folder..

Ok ... by "WDLXTV Application Pack" ... I'm guessing you mean 1.03.01_B-RAD.CC_WDLXTV-0.5.8.1 ?? Which is already installed ... and I downloaded Version 1.3.2 and now have the "LaurentG_templates" folder ...

... where do I go from here?

Has anyone else had issues getting this to work with WDLXTV version 0.5.8.1 (based on official firmware 1.03.01)?

I just upgraded to WDLXTV 0.5.8.1 and now my movie sheets don't display. All the LaurentG and event-osd files are on a USB stick plugged in to the WD TV upon startup, and I've tried a couple of cold boots with no luck.

Symean,

I have LaurentG working with 0.5.8.1

It was fairly tricky though. It seems like 0.5.8 & 0.5.8.1 are fussy about the drive that you put the LaurentG files onto. I had a USB stick with all the files on working fine with 0.5.7 but then upgraded to 0.5.8 and nothing worked.

I looked into it a little more and found out that some issues are related to the formatting of the USB stick. I had been using Windows to format the stick to FAT32 without success...

So i tried using "HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool" and FAT32.... and Voila... It worked.... No guarentees but give it a blast.

Link for the HP tool:-

If your using Vista or Win7 then be sure to run as Admin.

Lister of Smeg, thanks for the tip. I tried formatting using that tool and at first it didn't work. Then I tried removing spaces from the flash drive's name (was "WD TV FLASH", changed to "WD_TV_FLASH") and it worked! So not sure if the re-formatting was required, but apparently 0.5.8.x doesn't like spaces in the name of the drive that holds the app files.

FYI, my other drive formatted as NTFS has a space in the drive's name and works fine, at least for media only (no apps).

Cheers :)

Hi, everybody!

I'm using together LaurentG with MSheet app and everything seems to work well. I've only one problem: I didn't manage to avoid showing thumbs when I use the extended feature of LaurentG application. I mean: if I use wd_tv2.jpg with a folder containing two or more files, in the movie sheet, at bottom, appear the thumbs and the list of files together. Well I don't like it, so I decided to make some change by setting different parameters in the extended_view templates.
I've tried to set new parameters both in the thumb view and list view but I didn't manage to avoid showing thumbs. I've also tried in setting x and y value to 0 but the thumbs keep on showing, this time, at the top left (x=0; y=0).
Is there a way of making thumbs not appear in the sheets ?

thanks for all the replies and tips you will give me!

pluto69,

As far as I know, if you're using the 'extended' view, it will default to how you have your view set up in WD TV's settings. So you can't browse in thumbnail mode and then have it switch to list mode when viewing a movie sheet.

If you only use the 'basic' view in LaurentG (the one that displays just one file name row), then it avoids showing thumbnails (you can browse through several video files by pressing up and down on the remote), but then you get to see the file name on EVERY movie sheet, which in my opinion is useless if there's only one movie file to show. I like to hide the file name altogether for most movies.

I suppose you could try duplicating one of the 'basic' template files and renaming it to whatever you have selected as the 'extended' template, not sure what this will do...it may trick it into using two different 'basic' templates, it may just not work at all...or it may crash your WD TV! If you try it let us know.

Also, why do you use MSheet as well as LaurentG? Just curious...

I've already tried duplicating the basic template, but nothing change ... thumbs keep on showing in the sheets! I guess you're right when you say that LaurantG app.bin only applies the default view set in main settings... (what a pity!!!!)

I agree with you when you say that it is useless to have the file name showed in the movie sheet when only one file/movie is  present in a folder... That's why I use the modded basic view of Idaho with folders containing just one file and I was trying to use the extended view of LaurentG app for folders with two or more files, thinking that  one can set indifferently the view he prefers: thumbs or list! But, as i can see, it is not possible!
You ask also why I use both LaurentG and MSheet apps. Well, I use Msheet only for the first sheet of a TV serie where I have a backdrop with tv serie's fanart and the thumbs of all seasons. I use LaurentG with all other sheets since, in my opinon it is more stable and has no memory issue. It is annoying to have black screens when you're navigating through your folders n sheets looking for the movie you want to see!!!
Maybe, I could use only Msheet to have the same results but, I don't known how I can customize the seetings of this app or even if it is possible to show a list of files instead of  thumbs.

Anyway, thanks for your reply.

There may still be a way to do this...until about a week ago, I was using only one trigger file, "wd_tv.jpg". It was set to use one of the 'basic' templates. I would browse through my folders using thumbnail mode, and when I got to a folder containing a movie sheet, it showed the sheet and just the file name underneath. If I had more than one movie file in the folder, it showed up and down arrows and I could go through the list.

However recently I decided to start using two trigger files and templates in an attempt to get rid of the file name for most individual movies, like you. After a re-boot I noticed that my tv series folders were now showing thumbnails!

Perhaps the answer is to set both trigger files to use a 'basic' template, then for one of them, use the modded template from Idaho to hide the file name?

Let me know how you go if you try it, I'm happy to stick with my setup now, which is hidden file name for most movies, then extended thumbnail mode for tv series and collections. Only drawback is that I can't be bothered to get thumbnails for tv series, so they show the generic icon :P

I'm exactly at the same point as you!
I've already tried setting both trigger files to use the basic template, but nothing changes!

Well, I think I'll wait for the next release of Titi's MSheet which, using a new event.osd, promises great things with music folders and photos as well...

Hello Everyone!

I'm totally a newbie on WDTV. I have followed your steps to upload your mod: Installed WDLXTV-0.5.8.1, restarted, unzip the LaurentG files on a newly formatted thumb drive; inserted it on the WDTV and powered it on. Nothing happened and when I checked, the new OSD is unavailable. Did I miss anything? Was I suppose to change a file or anything before I upload it? Many thanks in advance!

@Jerry_vps

Put the LaurentG files into the root of a USB stick or hard drive (But ensure that the drive name doesn't have any spaces in it)

i.e. My USB stick is NTFS and called 'WDTV'

I have found that after installing a new firmware, you need to do a couple of cold reboots for LaurentG to function properly.

Give that a go.

Thanks

Hi,

I am a total newbie to WDTV but I want to have this movie sheets.
So I updated my WDTV with WDLXTV-0.5.8.1 it was easy and everything works fine. Now I want to install the LaurentG.app.bin. So I downloaded it, put it on my Harddisk (name is Transport) and rebooted the WDTV ( power connector on/off). After a short while it starts but nothing was there to see.
I can't the the osd menue (where should it be?) or the movie sheet (created with movie gui builder for MAC). So what can I do?
I restarted the WDTV many times but nothing happens. Must I change something in the LaurentG Config file?

Please give advice.

Thx
Thorsten

P.S.: I tried a little bit and found this.
I found the OSD Settings when I go to videos and there on video folders. Now there are three folders. EFI, OSD Settings and USB1. The Settings are only symbols like films in the folder. In the folder USB1 is another folder "Filme". In this folder there are the films. The films where I created a movie sheet have there a thumbnail of the cover. When I try to start the film the WDTV crash and reboot.

Can anyone help me? Why crash the WDTV? What did I wrong? How can I see the right movie sheets?
Please help!

Thx Thorsten

I'm not using this app, but have you read the first post of this topic, written by the creator ?

I read in this topic :

The file "LaurentG.conf.txt" is documented. It contains comments (lines beginning with #) and data (lines with "parameter=value"). Please read the file to check what you can do.

Have you opened this file (in a text-editor) ?

everything works fine now. First I removed the app from my USB device. Then copied it new to it. Nothing change in the config file. Really nothing. Then used the Movie sheet generator for win. After that everything works fine!

Has anyone found a solution to the USB eject lockup? It drives me nuts. I have to reboot and reload ext3 boot everytime. Does it occur with WDTVLX firmware as well?
Title: Re: My pack enhancing OSD

@piecutter,

I used to have the eject lockup issue when i was using a FAT32 usb stick with spaces in the drive name.

I am using WDLXTV.

I got around the issue by using an NTFS formatted usb stick and ensuring that the drive name had no spaces in it. In WDLXTV v0.5.8.1 there is a bug regarding having spaces in the drive name.

You could give that a go.

Nope. Already using NTSC and no spaces. Got to be something else.

Any idea what fixed it for you?

I just bought the WD TV Live from Best Buy and upgraded the firmware to WDLXTV-LIVE-0.3.1 (that was easy).

I have all of my movies on a 500GB WD Passport (NTFS format) and have used the WDTV Movie Sheet Generator to make nice pages for each movie.

I downloaded the LaurentG pack to a 2GB USB thumb drive (FAT32 format), didn't touch any of the files, and tried to install/power cycled several times, etc... but got nowhere.

The only change that I see that it has made is in the video folder section, I see a third option (as you described).

1) My Passport 500GB
2) OSD Settings
3) USB1

In the OSD Settings, I see two options for "number of items in list mode" and "Thumbmail resolution in video thumbmail mode" and they show up as folders.  Each of those folders has subfolders to select what options you want, but it does nothing.

All I'm wanting to do is use the movie screens, otherwise the OEM 1.01.11 firmware was working fine with just folder thumbnails (also, I lost the ability to access my WDTV from my PC, as a network share, but I'm sure that's in a config file somewhere?

Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

@jdiehl,

This forum is for the WDTV v1 only and not the Live for your info. You may get better answers/results in the other forum.

As far as i'm aware the LaurentG mod is for the WDTV v1 only and doesn't work with the WDTV Live.

Ok just a quick question: I was wondering if there was a way to do something like this:

What I want to do is have a custom background image for my TV Show folders and list the files bellow.

@dextro,

You can do that with the MSheet MOD from Titi or with LaurentG.

In LaurentG you need to set the Sheet view to "Extended" in the config file.

Thanks

If you want one Moviesheet per folder (Like the screenshot you provided) then you will be fine with either MSheet or LaurentG. If using LaurentG you need to use the "Extended" Sheet view (not "basic") to get the desired effect.

The only thing you can't do with LaurentG is have multiple video files in a folder and have seperate moviesheets for each.... but Titi's MSheet can

Hope that helps

Thats fine. LaurentG allows for two trigger files. I use wdtv.jpg as my main trigger files for films using the "basic" view. Then i use wdtv2.jpg as the 2nd trigger file for use with my TV Shows using the "extended" view.

Just ensure you set both trigger files in the config and ensure you set the correct view for each trigger.

Thank you very much, that just might be the solution. I'll try it as soon as I get a change. :)

You can have LaurentG display the "extended" sheet view in either Thumbs or List. But you cannot specify individual folders for a specific type of view. You have to pick either thumbs or list for all of the "extended" views.

On a side note, Titi's MSheet does allow for different views for each folder. Maybe you should consider that as an alternative?

I'm having an issue with this mod. I've set up a couple directories as containers for multiple movie folders. I set a background as wd_tv2.jpg and have it display the movie folders in list mode. The movie folders each have a wd_tv.jpg for a background.

When I enter a movie folder it will change the background to that of the movie folder, however when I go back to the parent directory the background remains that of the movie I was just looking at instead of displaying the wd_tv2.jpg of the directory.

Any ideas?

@Fissionchips,

You need to enable "Multiple Sheets" in the LaurentG config file.

It should look like this:-

Multiple Sheets=1

That will correct your problem.

Hey Laurent I was reading but it seems that the asnwer for my question was left in the air, so sorry if I am asking again.

OK. If I use your OSD and with MSheet. Once I unplug the HDD I will have to make a could reboot again right?

If I left my WDTV off (only in the RC) unplug the HDD and after turn the HDD and turn it on with the CR the MSheet stops to work right??

Is there a way to leave the MSheet loaded without having to cold reboot all the time?

I can't leave the HDD connected because I have an external case with PS. So I have to turn it off if not it will eat my HDD alive.

Thks for the help.

Cheers

Hi all,

Can someone tell me if the LaurentG App works for WDTV Live.  I've flashed the firmware on my WDTV Live to WDLXTV 0.4.0.0 and it works fine, but I can only see the thumbnail images of my movie folder, but NOT the actual backdrop page with the movie info on it.

I know I need some sort of App to make this work, but am not sure which one works for WDTV Live, can someone point me in the right direction, I've also tried other apps like WDTV Movie Sheet Generator but no luck..

Thnx in advance..

Hi Karlos,

The Movie Sheet Generator only makes the sheets. You'll need custom firmware and an app that displays movie sheets to display them.
I'm not sure what apps there are to display Sheets for the Live but WDLXTV Live is a firmware you can use.
Try searching/asking in the WDTV Live subforum for better answers ;)
You have asked several times in this forum (for WDTV Gen1).
Here, I'll help:
http://wdtvforum.com/main/index.php?topic=4673.0 (http://wdtvforum.com/main/index.php?topic=4673.0)
http://wdtvforum.com/main/index.php?topic=4631.0 (http://wdtvforum.com/main/index.php?topic=4631.0)

It seems movie sheets for WDTV Live are still in the 'experimental' stage and not yet ready for the end-user... You'll have to wait. But there are some nice-looking OSD mods available if you look in the WDTV LIVE Homebrew / Custom Firmware section, which is here: http://wdtvforum.com/main/index.php?board=14.0 (http://wdtvforum.com/main/index.php?board=14.0)

Good luck

Hi,

I have just recently reflashed with 1.03.01_B-RAD.CC_WDLXTV-0.5.8.1.zip and copied all the files from the LaurentG.app.bin
Version 1.3.2 zip file to the root dir of my drive.

I have a segate external 1TB drive and there is no spaces in the drive name.

I have used  WDTV  ImageGrabber v2.9.7 to generate sheet and thumbnails for my movie directory (contains about 30 movies)

Now the problems is as follows.  I can get the thumbnail images to work without any issues at all they look cool but it doesnt display the movie info sheets at all.  I have tried the different settings in the conf file (Changing it from 1 to 0).  If you ask me its like its not running the scripts becuase I dont get the extra menu for video or thumbnail size.

Any help would be extremtly welcomed.

Thanks

Steve.

Hi Steve/sLADE.

I believe you are experiencing the same issues I had, and I have found a few workarounds. I am using the same WDLXTV/LaurentG versions as you are.

- I was not able to make my sheets work when the LaurentG files where in the external hard drive. Only worked when it was on an usb stick. BUT, only worked on my kingston datatraveler 112 16gb, not on my sandisk cruzer 4g. It didn't matter the file system (ntfs or fat32).
- My usb stick, along with LaurentG files (and template folder!), needs (at least) one folder with video and wd_tv.jpg files. So, I created a dummy folder, with a small video file and random wd_tv.jpg.
- Media library must be on
- There is one sequence that always work:
   1. Unplug/eject all devices from wdtv and wdtv from energy (hard boot)
   2. Plug the usb stick and turn the wdtv on. Be patient, I could take a a few flashes on the screen. Check if the dummy folder sheet (on your usb stick) is working. Do not go to the next step until you got this working. If for some reason it stopped working, check if the usb stick is not corrupted (mine got a few times, I believe because of the hard boot).
   3. Plug the external hard drive and turn it on. Once the drive is available at folder view, you can check the sheets.
- Next time you are going to use wdtv, turn the wdtv device first, then you hard drive. [edit] I am sorry, but this is not true. I always have to eject the hard drive before turning wdtv off, or the hard drive stays on (or I got the 1st issue described below).

Ok, but a few times WDLXTV goes crazy and:
- shows both usb devices, but does not recognize the hard drive (it is always empty and unavailable for eject). Usually this happens when I turn wdtv AND my hard drive off - the next time the I empty device.
- show the files/folders/thumbnails, but not the sheets. Do not know what causes it.
In both cases, repeat the previous sequence.

I have found that by ejecting the hard drive everytime I turn wdtv off I avoid the "crazy" part. The thing is, when I turn wdtv off the hard drive keeps on, specially if it is still scanning the device (an issue with WDLXTV, I believe, since it did not happened with original firmware).

Important: I am not saying my way is the right solution, but only it had worked for me. Maybe someone can find a solution for my issues - until then I have to live with it in order to see the sheets properly.

Hello, I just installed brad's custom firmware and installed the LaurentG app and even managed to get wireless running and connect to my shares. One thing is still not working though. I still cant see the custom folders / sheets I created using TViXie. I tried renaming the background.jpg to wd_tv.jpg, I added the background.jpg file in the configuration file... tried anything I could think of! Nothing worked. I even installed The lillbabe osd and still nothing. In the first post you say

Only thing that is a bit strange to me is the xml file... TViXie doesn't seem to create an xml file... is that the issue?

Also, one thing I noticed you have in the first post:

Quote

It seems that I cannot choose the configuration in the menus of the WD TV HD. When I enter the video folders there is no way for me to choose OSD settings. There is no way to change the thumbnails no matter what I do!

Please some help.

I had the same problem, but I assumed it was because I was using ext3-boot, so I gave up.

Hello guys

I recently bought my second wd hd media player from amazon. When i tried to copy wdlxtv firmware which was on my another wd hd media player it basically didn't update no option to update. I went online did some research and realized that its gen 2. i then downloaded latest firmware of wdlxtv_g2 to usb pen drive and it updated fine. I also had laurentg osd for hd media player G1 when i copied laurentg to pen drive and plugged in my external hard drive with all movies in none of the sheets which worked on hd media player does not work on G2 media player.

I have over 600+ movies in there own folder with background.jpg but on new wd mediaplayer gen 2 it does not work. i know there are OSD mods which makes movie sheets work but i have to take out everymovie from there folder to make it work.

Is there a way i can use some sort of method to modify laurentg osd mod to make it work on gen 2 media player without taking out movies from there own folder?

Please help me out
Thanks

Thank you very much, that just might be the solution. I'll try it as soon as I get a change.

Hi guys,
im new on this forum so please dont criticize me if i describe my issue unprecisely.
The thing is:
I got wdlxtv 5.8.1 running + laurentg 1.3.2.
both seeem to run correctly.
The problem is, that only 20 percent of the sheets i created with the most recent vers of tvixie work/display.
All sheets were created the same way and i can't figure out any structure behind the mistake.. all sheets bear the name wd_tv.jpg.
the folder icons folder.jpg do perfectly work, but i can't understand wyh some sheets work corrctly and some do not.
may it have to do something with the filesize of the single wd_tv.jpg's? i simply cant figure out any structure... of course all mkv's are in seperate folders and the structure is the same for all movies...

thanx in advance

i had the same problem and it turned out to be the file size, the gen 1 player will not 'read' your movie sheet if the size is over 512Kb if you want to be precise ...redo them to 500Kb and you will have no probs

cheers

I installed
-The latest wlxtv
-The latest LaurentG pack
-event-osd r170 (30-6-2009)

and I still can't eject a usb HDD if I browse it before trying to eject it.
The wdtv simply freezes.

Any solution to this ?
